Occasionally a puppy being unable to poop can be caused by something as simple as being dehydrated which can turn into a life threatening situation. Being educated to be able to quickly elevate the problem can be a life saver. So by having the knowledge and skills to be able to do this at home can also save you the costly trip to the vet, be able to intervene quickly, prevent the risk of exposure while at the vet, prevent the risk of having a young puppy’s temperature drop while traveling back and forth to the vet, prevent stressing the puppy and an enema can help replenish fluids back into a puppy who is dehydrated. A constipated puppy will likely show signs of feeling unwell. These signs can include panting, pacing, whining, drooling, restlessness, vomiting, lethargic, weak, refusal to eat and more. All puppies can get 'backed up' now and then, for one reason or another, but if you have a very small, tiny or toy breed pup, his/her chances of getting constipated are higher than those of a large or giant breed puppy. If you have a very young puppy that you are bottle feeding, you must do the mama dog's job. That means physical stimulation. But when you can’t stimulate a puppy to 💩 it may be necessary to perform an enema if the puppy is not passing stool or regularly. Ever see how a mother constantly licks her babies genitals, especially after nursing? This helps them to both urinate and defecate. A constipated puppy is generally one who hasn't had a bowel movement in 24-48 hours, or is passing tiny, hard feces and often having difficulty doing it or has a hard, enlarged and very bloated belly these are signs of a constipated puppy. In spite of your best efforts, any puppy can becomes constipated and this is a straightforward technique that should get his/her bowels moving fairly quickly. By no means does this replace the medical opinion of a hands on exam by a veterinarian or replace the advice of a veterinarian. If ever in doubt definitely seek a qualified vet for a full examination and advice. Follow up BTW this puppy is now 4 years old and doing very well with her adoptive family. She was not harmed by this even if she appeared or seemed to be distress it was only because she was so uncomfortable by the constipation and an enema is performed the same way in adults, children and babies. I have a question. How often can I do this ? I tried this to my 7 days old puppy and it worked. Really long one came out. But he still looks bloated and dehydrated. Would it hurt the puppy if I do this like every 5 hours ? how long does it normally takes until the tummy swell down ?

I went ahead and tried 4 warm water insertions on my puppy and I gently massaged her tummy. She went to poop after 5 minutes after she ran around playing. And she feels so much better after I washed her up. You saved Dylan a night time tummy ache , she hadn't pooped since yesterday morning. I think the main reason people dislike the video is because of how fast she inserts the water...it can be an issue and cause rupturing, if I were her, I personally would've gone a little slower, and massage the tummy as I did so; also would've relubed the tip each time.

I have to do this with a 3 week old orphaned kitten shortly, and this is very reassuring to be able to see it done. Thanks so much for posting this.

Cannot thank you enough, one of my 3 week old puppies was so constipated and it kept stopping pooing because it hurt do much even with lubricant and manual stimulation. She's been crying non stop for five hours and both puppy and the mother dog were distraught. Took me a few attempts but didn't want to use too much water. Now puppy lying nursing off mum and both much happier. Life saver♥

People are taking dislikes too seriously these days. Some people just say “I am not interested in this video, so I will dislike it so I have a bigger chance of getting something I’d like to watch.”

Good job! With puppies, you have to clean bum and genitals with a warm towel to simulate the mom licking them there. In nature, they hold it in until mom licks them and that is the cue to let go. The reason for that is in the wild, when parents are out hunting for food to feed the pups, if the pups soil their den, predators can sniff them out from the poop and pee. The mother usually disposes of the waste. So, as a caretaker, you need to do the same. That is the reason the pup is backed up.

JS: Up to you to do your own schooling on the matter and totally up to you if you'd flush your insides with chlorinated, excessively treated city water, well water, not to forget fluoride depending where you live.
