I'm from fiji and over here, there are different groups of licence for different types of boat ..much simpler for usa boaters

In Cali, it's a Boater Card, not a license as it's a one time fee and it never expires. Licenses expire. Current cost is $10 for lifetime. You have to pass an approved online course and then you'll receive your card by mail. The online course can range between $29 and $35. Note: A Boater Card is required for all applicants under the age of 20 operating a motorized vessel on state waterways. All applicants, regardless of age, will be required to hold a boater card after 2025. Source: CA DMV

We know it’s not a boating license. We just call it that as a slang and to shorten the term. For instance, a Near Coastal Master License is not really a captain’s license, but people call it a captain’s license for a short term/slang.

Unfortunately the link within your website to take the class online is not available for the state of NJ.

The ICC Boat license 1 in the Netherlands is very difficult. During the exam you have to know a 2 inch thick book with RPR,BPR water laws & regulations. And i mean everything. Also many exam questions about sailing. So if you only want to fish on a Jon boat with 20HP you need to lear everything about sailing and all water laws rules rpr, bpr. Most ICC exams outside Europe are way easier.

For some odd reason when I click on the link for Virginia and I try to take the course my state does not show up.

I got mine in South Carolina. Even though it wasn't required for me, I've completed course anyway to lower down my insurance.

Taking my GF of 5 years jet sking at a resort near Niagara falls for our anniversary, just recently found out you needed a license, got scared for a second there. Thanks for the help!

I watched your video last week so I went a head and did it but study for a week first then sit the test today and it so happens that I passed< bro I was shocked. it coast me $34.99 + $9.99 for a extra card just incase I loose the other one. It coast me $44 in all and 5 hours to do it.

Nj is about 6 hours online course. Then take in person test

Since my boaters license is for my state and I want to travel let's say to Florida. Do I need a license for each individual state I travel through??

So when I tried to buy the course it came included with a extra card that I couldn’t remove but it also won’t let me buy the extra card without taking the course so now I can’t take the course. Can anyone help

You will need it to obtain the Captain's license now. At least in Florida

hold on you can get a license online without any physical lessons and exams? how someone can operate a boat , how to dock and all that if there is no practical exam and lessons?

In TN you only do the only test if you are born on January 1 1989 and before anyone after that date has to acutely go take a class

wow here in Canada with having pretty much the same way they should have a different test for the land lock waters like lakes and rivers that don't access any river that leads to an ocean or a larger body of water that have large shipping in them yea do think when you plan on sailing you not a special license and a course to take too i know i am inland locked waters have NO experience in radios use or ocean laws yes i am looking into learning all of this as to who is qualified to teach it is another thing too yea i am going to learn to sail before across the ocean by my self

The CBR is taking exams nowadays. But you need to learn all BPR,RPR,BVA Water laws regulations. Thats a 5 cm thick book with only Police Laws and Regulations. Also you need to learn everything about Meteorology. It is a PITA to learn. So only people that can study good and have money are making a change to get a Boat 1 Licence.

Sadly here in aus you can not just get a license online :( you MUST do a online test then when you pass that you MUST come on for a 50 question theory (it’s multiple questions….but they don’t make it easy …maybe the first 10 are…then after that you have to really know your boating sht) to top that off you MUST get 100% or you FAIL( and that’s like 200-400$ down the drain ) if by some miracle you do pass…you must then prove your skills dams ability to drive for around 30m give or take ( IF) you pass that step you get a license ….currently it’s harder to get a boat license than a gun or a car …how that works idk….

Anyone born after September 1993 in Texas must take a course. I was offended when they said I didn't need to take the course. Do I really look 68? Arrggg! Maybe I'll teach the course!?

Okay I'll debate you, even though I won't be much of a debate, because I like your videos and I find you very knowledgeable, all right I was born in 1964 why should I get my boat license and if you insist that I have to get my boat license what are the pros and cons, I guess this ain't debating and I told you it wouldn't be much of a debate it's more of a question so I intend to sail around the world and this is not a scenario will I need those license and other places in the world or if I grandfather in all the way around the world which now at this moment as of you are December the 2nd 2020 I am now 56 years old and I'm not getting any younger and I want to go and I'm the one that said that I bought me a lancer 42 masthead sloop and I was looking for one person that was knowledgeable that wants to go along for the adventure and I am the person that said that I was going to make about a 5-year trip out of it, so say I don't have my boating license but what if I have my passport and my state ID from where I live to go with me tell me what the advantages and disadvantages of the whole nine yards please.

@@mattadams7772 hey Matt how's it going buddy, yeah I guess I got a little bit antsy there I still I am planning on doing it but I guess it's covid I might have to wait another year or so until it gets under control, I understand just about every place I go I have to be quarantined at the moment good night I understand that most places is like Australia they put you up for 14 days and cost you about $3,500 well I guess I can have to wait just a little bit but it's going to be a something I definitely do they gave me a chance to reflect and get my affairs and a little bit better of order I stopped the sale on my house to where I could add on and get more out of it and I still have to get rid of my houseboat it's a big one so it's not going to be well it'll take the right buyer it's 15 ft wide and 54 ft long it's a beautiful one too so it's like I'm going to take another year to get everything in perfect tip top shape and that way I can even get me a nicer sailboat when I go, maybe me and you can have a little discussion on what would be good to look for since I'm a novice.

Getting a US boat license is as valuable as getting a tricycle license. What I need is an EU accepted offshore captain license. How do we get that?

California's Boater's Safety Course takes me about a week. So.....not easy. Not fast. Unless you already know everything in the course.
