    when u said "u focus on the Hm Ehm to let the doctor knows if his patient is hesitant" , my trainer said don't try to mimic the hesitations and uncertainty because the Doctor or the client might think that u as the interpreter is the one who's not sure of his interpretations and u'r the one being hesitant , what do u think ?

  • @Interpretrain

    @Interpretrain

    10 ай бұрын

    Thank you for your question. In court interpreting we must convey the hesitations in the speech because they reflect the LEP court user's state of mind. When it comes to medical interpreting, conveying the patient's hesitations may also offer the health provider crucial information about the patient's mental state. This is especially true in psychological or psychiatric cases. Additionally, conveying the hesitations in the speech allows other health care providers (even those who do not work with mental issues) to assess how committed a patient is with the treatment and/or how much the patient understands what he/she/they must do to follow their treatment. In short, I do believe it is important to convey the hesitations expressed in the original speech. Remember, our main concern as interpreters is to accurately render the original meaning. Our priority should not be how we are perceived. We hope this helps.

    Some people don't need to take notes to interpret faithfully in the consecutive mode because they rely solely on their memory. Others find that notes enhance these skills: listening, attention, comprehension, and memory. Each interpreter must do whatever helps them to do a good job, especially when it comes to accurately interpreting long chunks of speech.

    Jotting down your notes diagonally is the result of combining two techniques: vertically and shifting. These two techniques increase the clarity of your notes because they allow you to understand how the parts of the speech relate to each other. Distributing your notes on the page in this diagonal way helps you distinguish the main ideas from the supporting ideas, which in turn allows you to understand your notes better and recall the message more accurately. We hope this helps. We wish you great success in your professional journey.

    Easier to write "her" than drawing the symbol. There's no point showing her note pad with her own notes, as we can't see anything. The audio exercise is not free, they want your personal details Overall a good course for a novice.

    We welcome constructive reviews as they help us improve, however, please comment within the communal context that this training is complimentary. So far as the audio practices for our Note-Taking Manual, they are free and require an email to receive the MP3 files. We regret that you interpret this service as 'not free'.

    I disagree with you...it is easier to write the symbol than to write "her".....It's important to do more than just complain when there's something you don't like...You need to try to do something about it or you're nothing but a whiner...Those who complain the most accomplish the least.....She is a great interpreter instructor, and you are just a whiner.
