HOW TO get That Neo Soul Drum Sound | HIP HOP Drum Sound

Музыка

In this Vid I invite my drummer friend June Medina to help me transform the sound of my 70's Ludwig Drums to create a killer hiphop/QuestLuv drum sound. Choosing the right mics and placement I was able to capture the sound i was looking for right at the source without the use of any eq or compression!
I find it very important to change the instrument if you want to change the sound before reaching for an eq or compression. Capture the sound you want to hear at the source.
June played a killer groove to this Neo Soul progression I created and the results speak for themselves. Take a listen!

    I guess it's kinda too late now but I would have really appreciated if you could have recorded different one shots for each hihat, crash, snare, kick, etc. I would even pay for it, cause It's so incredibly hard to find isolated drum sounds that fit my personal taste and this perfectly nailed it. Best thing would be to learn the drums myself, but I can barely afford anything atm, let alone a drumkit^^

  • @speakervox2563

    @speakervox2563

    2 жыл бұрын

    The snare head is about 12 years old and hasnt been changed so imsure that is also part of the sound. WeTune it up pretty tight and then we drove the preamp a bit hard so it broke up a bit in just the right way. You just have to be careful and not overcook it going into your converter/Tape. Ive also used an Overstayer VCA Comp to sprinkle in a bit of character at times.
