Ойын-сауық

Hey y'all!
These are my top tips for landing an undergraduate research position! I am a rising junior in chemical engineering, and I've found success using this method to acquire a spot in my dream research lab at my university (I've even been published already)! I hope you are able to find success using some of these tips!!

Thanks so much for this video! It was very informative and helpful. Quick question though, how many hours did you usually put in research per week during the school year? Was it manageable alongside your school work and other extracurriculars?

I’m glad it was useful!! At my school we have the choice of how many credits we want to commit to research- for example, I did 1 credit this past semester and therefore was obligated to (at least) 3 hours a week which was super manageable for me with everything else going on (and I probably went over this 3 hour minimum every week just by accident)! Every credit hour for us is worth 3 hours of equivalent lab time so that’s how I estimate going into each semester…. I would definitely talk with the professor you’re doing research for too!!

Such wonderful advice! I’m set to graduate my community college this fall and transfer into another college to pursue my scientific dreams. I’m set to be part of a research group from my CHM-1010 professor the fall semester this year before I receive my associates degree 📜.

@Lauren Abbey Thank you so much, I am so proud of you for being part of a research group yourself! Science is always fascinating world to discover. Bill Nye The Science Guy made me love science since elementary and middle school(ten to twelve years old) I would always watch his show in my science classes, always fascinating by his presentations of the experiments he was working on and his findings of the many processes that took place. It’s been a passion and dream for me!

I have no idea how she has the time along with school. I'm barely surviving my classes even without any undergrad research, internships, or being in any clubs 😭😭😭 AND she works out! Legend 💯

I remember feeling this way too! You'll probably start off shadowing a grad student or more senior undergrad in the lab, before doing anything on your own! Don't be afraid to ask any and all questions you have. Keep in mind that everyone starts off by not really knowing much-- no one is expecting you to immediately come in and take over a project or contribute loads of new ideas. Best of luck to you-- have fun with the journey!!
