    Zoom separate audio track downloads aren't true stems - so they're not time-aligned. And it's not a simple offset - different tracks have different spacing in dead spaces. Always spend way too much time sorting out timings, especially when there are 3 or 4 participants. Any tips on getting timings sorted out quickly?

    This is the same issue I've been having. I'll record 4-5 participants and each file is a different length... if the participant stops speaking for a while or mutes, the recording "pauses" throwing the tracks out of sync. Surprised more people don't mention this. It's a post-production nightmare. It suggests to me that this tool is NOT meant to be used for multitrack podcast recording. Zencastr is designed to do that though, only issue is that it currently doesn't have video, which can change the vibe of a recording so be aware. If anyone knows how to solve for the Zoom sync issue I'd love to hear it, would like to have Zoom as a backup.

    Hi Joe, Thanks for this, I was able to wet my windows machines for separate audio file recordings, however even though it is set to the the audio file came as combined. My scenario is two laptops (chromebook as guest and windows10 host) on a zoom meeting (will be a remote 3rd party in future) and those laptops are sitting on the same home wifi network. Trying to get separate audio files for each participant and so far haven't been able to get them as 2 files. I was thinking it might be because they are on the same network? I emailed ZOOM but canned response said they don't have support staff to answer my questions currently. Please advise if you have any thoughts. tx

    How can I use multitrack audio box for live zoom conference. The mic shows it as 1/2, 3/4, 5/6.. so if I connect my condenser mic into 1, and keyboard into 5&6, the zoom only allows either 1/2 or 5/6. I cannot play and talk at the same time.

    Awesome video. So heres my dilemma, I have a podcast that me and two other hosts are involved in. 1 of the hosts currently is living in a different country and me and my other host started recording together in the same room. I bought two usb microphones (I know, i'm getting condenser mics this week! lol) but I realized in zoom it only allows you to pick one microphone. It's two of us in a room together with our own microphones recording the podcast with our other host who is overseas. Can anyone help? I have a mic interface that has two mic inputs, just trying to figure out whats the best way to do this.

  • @JoeCasa

    @JoeCasa

    3 жыл бұрын

    I’d recommend using GrarageBand or another program that can detect both inputs from another device. Zoom treats input devices as singular so you’d have both on one track. But if you use this method + GarageBand or Audacity you’ll have all three tracks separate.

    What about the Zoom sync issue? Sometimes the individual recordings will all be different lengths with weird gaps and different timings. Syncing it in post is horrible. I've had to scrap multi-track Zoom recordings and use the mixed version instead due to this syncing issue. So for those relying on this, be aware! Try Zencastr if you need files that actually sync up.

  • @JoeCasa

    @JoeCasa

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your feedback Todd. That can definitely be an issue, usually with the rate at which the audio is recorded and transmitted (called a bitrate). That can cause audio drag, and unfortunately (unless Zencastr has fixed it) it can be an issue there too.

    @@JoeCasa Thanks Joe. I think it's just baked into how Zoom makes its multi-track recordings. When people mute or don't speak for a long time it seems to "pause" the recording instead of recording the silence to maintain sync with the other tracks. I will say, I have gotten this to work with 2 participants, but when I try to tape 4 or more, the individual recordings get screwy

    @@ZackDavidMusic I haven't been able to get an answer from support yet, but after reading through their cloud recording options and 'advanced' options, it's not looking good. This is frustrating since most of the options are about how the *video* gets recorded in the cloud, not the audio... which doesn't help podcasters out much. The whole benefit of cloud recorded audio gets lost if all tracks are collapsed into one. Argh. Here's the link anyways: support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/203741855-Cloud-recording

    @@ZackDavidMusic finally heard back from support and it's official... no separate tracks in cloud recordings. It's been put forward as a 'feature request', so who knows. Kinda regretting I went ahead and paid for Pro... will be taking a closer look at Zencastr and other options now.

    ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE (in addition to Eric below) - ask all participants to unmute before you press record, otherwise their recording won't start until they unmute, and when you come to mix the audio stems they will be different lengths and therefore not in sync.

    Holy smokes! What a great tip- I had no idea that was the case.

  • @TheMoonmoonmoon

    @@JoeCasa Yep I've tested it and it seems to be the case. With a small group it's not difficult to find the start points in the conversation to re-sync, but if you had 50 people it would be a nightmare. (Though 50 people unmuted would also be a nightmare, so separate audio stem recording probably has it's optimum group sizes!) Worse than this though, I've had other issues with stems getting out of sync halfway through even when they ARE in sync at the start... I haven't had a chance to test this but what I think is happening is if participants mute and unmute themselves during the conversation then it creates a timing difference between their audio stem and the others, and you have to then go through it all referencing the 'all audio' stem to correct it. Best to keep everything un-muted I think!
