I have a WEEK OLD TANK & have HUNDREDS if not thousands😭 I don’t overfeed came in on plant jumped onto a dying plant I was trying to recover and went to TOWN without me knowing til I finally got rid of the plant and while removing it I must of loosened them up off the plant idk bc within an hour or so I saw HUNDREDS of babies allllll over the glass ! If not thousands tbh! I want to cry I do NOT want them in my tank idc what this guy says lol idc if they’re good whatever idc I’m not comfortable w them Will be doing substrate free tank for a few weeks cleaning old Food immediately and also adding pristine by seachem which basically helps remove their food source by cleaning up microscopic bits of detritus you don’t see or can’t get ! I heard copper treatments work some ppl had bad experiences w that though or also certain anti parasitics but idk if I wanna risk my bettas health over it This way WILL tank longer but it’s worth it to not hurt the fish or my cycle So yea ugh he’s eating them too they’re SO small you’d think you wouldn’t even notice them Moving bc I didn’t til I posted a pic and someone in a betta group said worms And I stared and stared close up and saw they were in fact moving and wanting to crawl out of my skin MY TANK IS ON MY NIGHT STAND NEXT TO MY BEDDDD!!!! Where I SLEEP! 😭😭😭😭

Oh my! I had these worms in my filter of my 2 feet tank. Im very squeamish regarding these types of things. Wearing gloves, I kinda dunk the filter with the wormy sponge in a bucket of old aquarium water several times to 'push' all the worms up. Set it up again and turned on the filter, all the worms came spewing out of the filter hole. My platies and guppies had a worm buffet.

But my prob is jus as you said overcrowding, over feeding, not enough frequent h2o changing. I'm going to get another aquarium bc I have 2 baby guppies for my 2 yr old. I'll prob jus split the fish from there and do cleanings on both frequently.

great video, but I think you should emphasize their benefit and role in the aquarium ecosystem. They are a great upcycling food source. They turn waste into plant food and are a live culture in your tank for the fish to eat. You make the point they aren't bad, but I think they are actually good. A minor nuance, but I am encouraged to see the numbers you say are good during maintenance (3-4). great advice!

My sorority of betas loved them, I just poked a clean plastic ruler into the substrate and wiggled it. The worms would pop out and the betas would chow down. The betas would see the ruler and wait. Maybe two weeks of doing this a few times a day and they were gone as far as I could tell. It was pretty cool watching them hunt the worms.

I think I will have to treat the water for a long time. But so far the results are good. If you are considering to use Cupramine, be sure to remove all invertebrates like shrimp etc from the tank as it is poisonous for them

I can honestly say I've never seen these in my tanks. Doesn't mean they weren't there, of course. But, if I understand you right, you're saying they're more of a warning sign of a problem, than a problem themselves. (And water changes are the single best thing one can do for almost any tank.)

Finally, a recent video about these worms! I have a couple of questions: 1. Can these worms hurt/infect people? I'm pretty sure that they can't since they are supposed to be scavengers that feed on dead things/rotting things... but still. Worms are worms. 2. Say that I am cleaning out my tank with a siphon and I manage to suck some up-- what should I be doing with the water if I can't dump it onto my lawn? I live in an apartment complex in LA on the second floor... So I had always just let the water go down the drain... but I don't want to put these worms back in our water system if it turns out to actually be bad for us. Is there like a way for me to ensure that I am killing them before draining (i.e. bleach, boiling, etc.)? 3. I noticed some worms in my filter. Not a fan of that. How can I address THOSE worms specifically without sacrificing my biological media? I remember reading something about a salt treatment, but since I'm keeping freshwater fish... I'd rather not mess with that. If I do have to, then I will... I'd just like to know how to do it. I have done quite a bit of research on these worms, and I know their function to the ecosystem (it helps being a Biology major), but I find myself still kinda clueless when it comes to actually handling the worms themselves. Should I be sanitizing my siphon every water change? No one really talks about that except with parasitic worms. Thanks in advance. :)

Question 1: No, they don't hurt humans. They feed off of algae and leftover food. Question 2: Yes, you can bleach the tank as well as use extremely hot water, but make sure that you put the fish in a separate tank or a big container first. Once you think you got all of them, you can drain the water. Question 3: You can do the same process from question 2. You can use different types of fish to keep these worms under control. Betta are the most helpful, for they are natural predators to worms and larvae.

i have had my 10g running for 6 months and i had 1 betta and 4 months went by and i lost her then a month later i got another Betta fish and this time i am prepared for everything im testing all parameters and i only added a floating plant by 123grow which comes in a sterile cup i spend the extra so i dont take the chance of importing parasites but iv had my new betta in my tank for 2 weeks and today i have seen the little worms at the top of my aquarium waterline and i have bin doing 50% water changes every morning to keep my nitrites at 0 because my tank is going thru a mini cycle since it was empty running for the time period that i had no betta but i added a pinch of fish food a couple times to keep some form of ammonia for the the cycle..so i guess its possible even when you dont have more then 1 fish and do daily water changes.. i know now to really dig the sand up and vacuum good... i hope they start to diminish..

Can live plants cause them ( too many live plants decaying)? My daughter has a 5 gallon beta tank with 1 beta and 2 mystery snails. She only feeds the beta what he will eat (one pellet at a time over about a minute) and gives the snails a single algae tablet every 2-3 days. However she has a lot of live plants in the tank. I’m wondering if the plants could be contributing to the worms? Or is she feeding the snails too often?

I had this problem (even thousands of them) then I tried checking for solutions online when I came across your video. I was about to medicate my tank but I wanted to do it as naturally as possible. Medicine will be my last option. I wondered why I didn't have any worm with my previous smaller tank when I only had a betta and 2 Corydorys. Unfortunately, my Corys died in the process of transfering/transplanting them to a bigger tank without isolating my fishes (big mistake!!!). Only the betta fish survived. Long story short, I tried maturing/cycling my new tank for a month with just 1 female betta. That's because I also wanted to wait and grow my plants from seeds and a couple of plants bought from the pet shop, etc before I iintroduce more fishes. To my surprise three weeks after, there were thousands of them all over the glass. They were very disgusting it bothers me knowing there are worms on my tank! So I went to the pet shop, bought me 6 guppies, 12 tetras, 3 corydorys. After 1 day, problem solved! I couldn't see a single worm on the glass! I have a 25 gallons tank. 80cmx40cmx30cm dimension. Just incase someone out there has the same problem and looking for a better solution. Enjoy your Tank!

I just rebuilt my tank to make it good for shrimp. All I have are 2 mystery snails...so I moved my snails to a temp tank and now Im just starving the tank. I will likely go through a mini cycle since I almost completely redid the tank so 100% water change, 50% of the substrate removed (to add fluval for shrimp) and lots of new plants. Im hoping a in a week or so, I see only a few worms instead of the few dozen wandering under the substrate. Maybe the dying worms will even aid the cycle with an ammonia spike. Ill test the water in a day or two.

If it's the worms that come from snails, schistosomiasis or something like that, than they burrow into human skin and work into our bloodstream to travel to our organs where they breed... Nothing wrong with being cautious

I have a newly cycled tank with some plants, spider wood, moss balls. No fish. No over feeding and I see almost barely visible worms all over the glass when I woke up and they aren’t leaving with the tank lights on. I had to strain to see them. I’m not sure if that is the worm your talking about? I’m freaked out! I’m not sure what to do except to vacuum the gravel and do water changes? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I watch over the tank constantly and do everything I can to have a beautiful tank for fish when it’s ready. But apparently not now :(

Can these be little bity worms on your tank glass? They aren't big at all. If so, I have a lot of them in my new tank, I think I got them from a plant I ordered. How do you get rid of them? Just suck them out?
