Transcript:Hi, I'm Amber with Domyownpestcontrol.com. Today I'm going to show you how to get rid of fleas in your house as well as how to get rid of fleas on your pet. Eliminating fleas from your home is a high priority to help keep you and your pets safe and happy. The products you'll want to use are a flea aerosol. As with many of our flea aerosols on our website they all contain the main two key factors to eliminating fleas. The have the "adulticide" which will kill the adult fleas in the area as well as an IGR birth control for the fleas to help halt the reproductive cycle. You'll also use a flea dust. This will get sprinkled on the carpet raked in with a broom and then excess will be vacuumed up. We'll show you how to do these later. Then you'll want to treat the other main important part of your home, your pet. Treat them with a flea topical as well as a flea spray on their coat to help eliminate the fleas. Now we'll show you how to do the treatment to get rid of fleas in your home. Step one to doing an indoor flea treatment, vacuuming. The most important part of any indoor flea treatment is vacuuming. Not vacuuming is usually the reason why many homeowners have a hard time getting rid of fleas in their home. Vacuuming does a few things. First it will suck up some adult fleas on the surface so when you are done you should dispose of the bag or dump out the reservoir if it is bagless. Second and most important, vacuuming stimulates the flea eggs to hatch. Fleas are protected in their eggs so getting them to hatch will make them exposed to the products when you apply them. Step two, initial application. After vacuuming you're read to apply the aerosol product in your kit. Make sure there are no toys or items on the floor. Kids and pets should be outside or in another part of the home. The aerosol contains an "adulticide" to kill adult fleas, but most importantly, a flea IGR that prevents them from reproducing. It's kind of like birth control for fleas. This can is applied upside down about three feet above the carpet. It is recommended to start in the back of the room and work your way out. In a waving motion, like you were spraying spray paint on the floor, depress the can top and thoroughly treat the room. It is important to get under beds, chairs, as well as treat the bottom part of any draperies, couches, chairs, and especially pet bedding. Once the entire home, carpets, upholstered areas, pet bedding, and area rugs are treated, it will take a few hours for the product to completely dry. After the flea aerosol has been applied, you should apply the Cimexa dust on all carpeted areas and rugs. Sprinkle the product on the carpet and then work it in with a broom. You should plan to leave the home with kids and pets after treating for a few hours to allow the flea aerosol product to dry. Upon returning to the home, you should vacuum one more time to stimulate the flea eggs and vacuum up any residual dust on the carpet. After the flea aerosol is dry and you have vacuumed up any residual dust it is safe to allow kids and pets back into the room. Step three, vacuum again! Fleas reproduce every 2 weeks. I had a big problem with fleas and I found a great tip on KZread with no chemicals to harm humans or pets. Fill a shallow bowl with warm water and washing up liquid, put it on the floor and keep a lamp next to it or even better use a bendy desk lamp and bend it over the bowl. Keep the lamp on for as long as possible and make sure that there is always water and washing up liquid in it. I left the lamp on for 6 days and was amazed by how many fleas were in it! I do this now every spring and autumn to keep on top of them. Also use ",ITCH" on my dog every month. Problem solved!

After the day of fumigation from pest control, apart from vacuuming, can I steam clean right after? Will that suck up the pesticide too rendering my effort useless because it is just water? How many days after can I steam clean? Thank you.

We would not advise that you steam clean after a treatment since you will be removing the residual left behind by the products used. You can steam clean right before your next treatment and than apply products again or wait until you have successfully gotten rid of the fleas to steam clean. Treatment should be Done every 14 days for fleas. www.domyown.com/how-to-get-rid-of-fleas-a-483.html Please let us know if you have any further questions.

First, you should spray all of your carpeting and rugs with a product that is labeled to be sprayed for flea control indoors. Allow the treated areas to dry and then apply a light dusting of a flea dust to carpeting, rugs, and along baseboards. Take your broom and help sweep the dust into the nape of the carpet. Once the product is pushed into the carpet, regular vacuuming will not disturb it. You should be vacuuming every day or at least every other day. Then after 14 days, you should reapply the aerosol or liquid product to the carpeting and rugs again, to control any newly emerging immature fleas. We have an indoor flea control kit here... www.domyown.com/indoor-flea-and-tick-kit-p-14603.html

Frequent vacuuming is suggested to speed up the treatment process so you would only need to do what you are able. If you do not have a closed room to move your pets and yourself into after treating a specific area you would need to leave the home after the treatment for a couple of hours to allow the treated areas to dry.

You should apply it to the tufts, seems and the sides of the mattress but not on top of the mattress where you would sleep. You should treat infested or potentially infested areas including rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, pet beds, pet resting areas, room edges and around or under furniture or other stored items.

I don't own a dog or a cat, but today I spotted a flea on my leg. I'm guessing that when my sister visited last week with her boyfriend, his dog brought them. Since I don't have any pets, maybe they'll just die off?

If you haven't spotted any more fleas than just that one, it doesn't sound like you will need to treat. We do recommend that you thoroughly vacuum your floor and any other area the dog may have rested while in your home to help remove any fleas or flea eggs. If you do find that you are seeing more fleas we recommend you follow the instructions in the video.

Products for pets are designed differently than those for humans. Just as chocolate is safe for most humans, it could seriously harm a dog or cat to ingest it. If you and your pet both have arthritis, the medicine for you and the medicine for your pet will be different because your systems work differently. The product is designed for pet use and pet skin, so its always safer to use gloves when applying it on the off chance it reacts negatively to a humans skin.
