OMG, you made me laugh, telling that story about running around, chasing those little beasts. Great visual! LOL! I did it while running around with the garden hose, trying to spray them in mid air . . . they are fast little farts! So, I was told a couple years back, when I first started the veg garden, that if you plant the kale in different places each year, the cabbage moths will have a harder time finding the new plant. What a bunch of malarkey that was! Then I heard if you spray the underside of the plant each morning, the larva will die in the dirt or be eaten. I tried it, and it worked, but it is not practical. I had too many kale plants. Thank you for the tips, that actually work!

Hi C Bryce, Oh my gosh we both had a good laugh, ha ha! My husband said I looked like a crazy person running around with the broom! Lol! The DE seems to work better than Neem oil as it can also dry out their eggs. I planted kale in the front which is a new spot this year, but they still found them! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching. Have a great weekend! Misilla

I've had them before, these little tormentors decimated my cabbage about 3 years ago. I hand picked them and fed them to my fish. This year I had green horned worms come after my cherry tomatoes. I hand picked them as soon as I saw them. I got them all early and saved my tomatoes.

Hi You can sprinkle DE diatomaceous earth on the area and also keep an eye out for aphids, as ants eat their waste. They have a symbiotic relationship. You can spray the aphids with neem oil or dust the plants with DE. Thanks for watching! Misilla

I've seen the white butterflies; but, they don't hold still enough for me to look at the closely to see if they look like the ones you showed in your video. I've never seen the caterpillars, though. I have neem oil; but, have yet to use it. Last year, I dusted my plants with diatomaceous earth in the evening, then rinsed it off in the morning. The most determined insect that I've had to deal with has been the earwigs. They chew holes in the leaves. The diatomaceous earth helped slow down that attack.

I thought it was pretty funny the music set behind the butterfly... I think it should have a dark ominous melody😉 I have footage on my security camera: me swinging my hat around like a madman at these damn devil butterflies all day... 😂 I try to scrape the eggs off early through Summer but I noticed the scraping damages my beet leaves, so I have to be gentle. Iv'e heard you can make a paper cabbage butterfly and put it on a stick of wire which will deter other CB's as they are territorial and won't encroach on another CB's turf. I'm gonna try it tomorrow in conjunction with my newly acquired BT, as I am getting a lot of tiny caterpillar's.

I haven't had great success with neem oil, but diatomaceous earth seems to work very well for many insect pests. Also, companion planting has worked very well for me. Most bugs don't like garlic, so I intermix garlic with my tomatoes & peppers. Carrot flies don't like onions, so I plant carrots & onions in alternating rows. Ever since I started doing this my carrots have no worms and they're super tasty.

I planted my 1st garden ever. I kept it aerated all season. Was planted next to a garage. I didn t see one worm on any of my plants. Once the cabbage butterflys showed up i found out a lot I didn't know. Part of the territory I guess. At 1st I ignored them, till after about 2 weeks one landed on my broccoli. So I watched it, went over to check it out and I was like, what the,... one of the plants had some leaf damage. So I blamed them for the carnage and checked plant every 1 or 2 days. Now when I checked I noticed spiders, birds always in my garden, ants I reduced and 1 praying mantis. Physically, obviously as plants grew, got to be a never ending battle. Was in a headon crash, surgerys, I used the garden to strengthen my neck, looking down was a nightmare. So I just said the hell with it. Surprisingly the garden took care of itself, I did check for worms, never found Any.

There is some fascination with these Cabbage Butterfly worms, also known as imported cabbageworm. Outdoors they seem to stay smaller around 2 inches but if you ever have the pleasure of having some come indoors, these worms can grow up to a massive size of 5"+ long! They have a seemingly insatiable appetite but strong plants can recover fairly well if not totally stripped of leaves. The outdoor worms just do not grow as big and they will only harm beneficial larvae but not beneficial flyers, such as the mighty lacewing.
