    I have committed to self tapping daily. I wrote ‘Happy’, ‘Angry’, and ‘Sad’ on a piece of paper. Then I take 3 monologues, making one tape of each monologue, looking at each word and saying the lines with that emotion. One taping of each monologue with the 3 emotions.

    I went to an audition for an agency recently and completely blanked on my monologue, but I don’t think it was that noticeable, I got back into it. I got the agent but still that was pretty nerve racking. Hopefully these tips will help me in the future, thank you for them!

    What do you do when all you have are sides? Does your agent tell you this? Casting director? I've cast a few short films, and really sides don't tell you a lot in what they are looking for. Casting folks want to help you do the best audition, but without more information, how's an actor supposed to know what they are looking for?

    Thank you for those tips! When I was nervous on stage for example, I'd super cold & when I samg, my voice would start to shake and that annoyed me So something super simple was just to always have an extra jacket with me that looks okay with my outfit haha That's just a tip for people who also start to freeze (I have no idea why I do though)

    I try to look at auditioning the same way as a interview for a job. My whole mindset is: If you don't hire me, it's your loss, not mine. If i have to, I will go get a job with somebody else. As a result I am very seldom nervous and not intimidated. But great video as usual Kurt!👍

    From what I could figure out my biggest issue growing up was being confident because I was always prepared. And from this space I could sense that ppl watching or evaluating me either misinterpreted my preparedness as cocky and/or arrogant and sought confirmation that I was not as good at whatever that particular thing was which really started to bother me as time passed. So I see my task as learning to handle the insecure energies around me and try to strive to be me without proving to someone I’m not as good at something as they want to perceive me to be for their own confirmation purposes which is not fair to ppl who choose to work hard.

    Great tips. I went into an audition not expecting to get the role. Was just doing it for practice. I had no nerves which really helped my acting & audition. When I care "too much" about booking it gets me in my actors head and the performance isn't as believable or fun. I think doing your best is important, but not if you get to the point where you worry about the performance.

One question about parctising the auditions: Often one just get one scene, so if we go e.g. to the website to get a script of the film, would you just "randomly" pick one scene? Or how do you do it?

  • @ActingCareerCenter

    I think it was Hugh Jackman who said he never looks at it as a performance, always as a rehearsal. His mindset is that it is always "a work in progress". He is working with the director to try to solve the problem of the scene. In your case, maybe think of it as working with the teacher to solve the problem of your scene?

    Do you possibly have any advice on where I can find an agent because I barely have any experience but I do take theatre at school so does that count as an acting class/some sort of experience? Also, how can I convince my mom to support my acting career? My dad supports me and my mom says she supports me but when I try to talk to her about getting an agent she always talks about how I need a back up plan! And I know it is true that I need to plan to have another job also but I mean I can’t just think about what other jobs there are that I can do and not focus on acting because if I don’t try to start my acting career than it will never happen! For example: The other week, I saw an acting video on websites to find auditions and I know I don’t have an agent yet but I like to look at the auditions to see what auditions are taking place near me. I told my parents about it and when I did my mom just laughed as if she thinks That I’m not serious about acting when I really am. I love any and everything to do with acting! I still don’t fully understand what a union actor or non-union actor is but I’m trying to learn. If you saw this comment please give me some advice. Thank you for your time.

    Yes, theatre in school definitely counts as acting experience. Ask your acting teachers in school if they have any advice on how to find an agent in your city. Here is a video about getting an agent: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aaeY3NRmZ9e0XaQ.html I can't really give any advice on how to talk to your parents about acting. I didn't start my acting career until I was 26 so I never had to deal with that.

    It will be somewhat easier because you won't be competing against the highest level competition. I watched a different video that suggested when you practice for your audition you should put yourself in slightly uncomfortable situations, like leaving the window open with the chance that someone might hear you, so you get used to being in different environments. Is that something you might recommend? It seems useful. On a completely unrelated note, I just realized that the ATL letters behind you are reflective. It always looked to me like they were slightly cracked in places when they were really just reflecting dark colours. (^∀^)

    To be nit-picky, when in the audition, if you slip on a line, can I assume you'd just paraphrase to finish, then peak at the script if needed to get back on track? Or would you stop after a slip up and say the line over again? Thanks for your help as always. 🙌

  • @ActingCareerCenter

    @ActingCareerCenter

    3 жыл бұрын

    To be honest, either way can work. Paraphrasing and finishing would be best but if you needed to stop and say the line over again, it wouldn't be the end of the world. I'm going to make a separate video on what happens if you mess up a line in an audition. It's really no big deal at all. The important thing is to not let it throw you off if and when it happens.
