How to Get My Baby to Take a Bottle. It can be so frustrating if Baby doesn't want to take a bottle - especially when the boob isn't available! In this video we'll go over some ways to help encourage Baby to eat from the bottle, like finding the right bottle, letting Baby play with and feel the bottle, and getting to Baby before they're upset. I hope this video is helpful for you, Mommy! If it is, could you give it a thumbs up? It really helps me out with KZread's algorithm. And please feel free to leave any questions below!

My baby of 5 months absolutely refused the bottle be it filled with my milk or powder milk. And I tried everything under the sun! And I mean EVERYTHING! But I had a friend who told me to try dipping the nibble in an apple sauce/mash before giving him the bottle. Worked like a charm. Had to continue dipping it in the sauce, but after few days of that, he took the bottle on his own. You are welcome 👌🤗👍

I tried the avent and nipple follow was too slow he’d just fall asleep and I tried the tomo como today and it worked he actually drank a good 2oz but he still likes to feed off me to fall asleep and for comfort at 3 almost 4 weeks old but I needed to find something so he can get at least one bottle sometimes at night or day so i can sleep sometimes 🥲 also for if he needs to be watched for any reason, so I was given the bottle but going to buy some new ones now for him, he’s still learning and sometimes clicks with it and I take it out and re latch him and then push his lips to go around the bottle if I see there not out all the way and that usually helps, hopefully over time he will get the hang of it ❤

Something that I don’t think i mentioned is that sometimes it helps if the caregiver wears or holds a worn shirt of moms. Baby can smell her and want to take the bottle a little easier. ❤️

The CDC says to clean them after every use but I personally would feel comfortable refrigerating them between that days pumping then washing throughly at the end of the day “IF” baby is over 3 months old and has no health issues. 💕. If you’re mixing milk together from a couple of pumpings, it’s best to have milk from both pumpings cooked before combining. How old is baby?

His pediatrician says that he’s under weight but won’t take formula or a bottle, I’ve tried many many times with different bottles. I’m going to try the trick with my hubby or my MIL giving the bottle. He’s has been glued to my breast since newborn, I don’t mind it but now that I have to supplement with formula or pumped breast milk it has been a struggle. It can sometimes help to let her just play with the bottle. Let her get used to it again. You can put a small amount of water in it. She might just get curious about it. You can try a sippy cup now too. Some babies go right to a cup. This can be so stressful but babies usually take in more from the breast when they’re with you. As long as you see plenty of diapers every day. ❤️

Most moms have no are very little problems with breastfeeding after breast augmentation but I’m not sure about it, if it’s over the muscle. It depends on whether or not the milk ducts/pores were detached/effected. Did your doctor mention anything about breast-feeding in the future with the type of implant you have? I would see a Lactation Counselor now to talk about it. Most syringes are small. 10ml usually at most. That would be lots of syringes full. Is baby taking the syringe or is it a fight? There are the bulb syringe type so that you can use just one hand to draw it up but you will still need to do a few. amzn.to/3Qe1jw4 I know it's a big jump but you could also try a turkey baster. it would still be slow going because you'd want to just do a little at a time because it would come out so fast. amzn.to/44OvoGS How old is baby? Do you want to tell me a bit about what's happening?

Hi, 15 months, exclusively breastfed since newborn (conscious decision because she was premature). My problem is she is biting and it really hurts now that she has 8 teeth in front. I have tried different bottles, cups, straws. She would only take formula from spoon. Another problem to that is she wants the nipple so she can sleep, so the spoon is not possible. Is there still a chance she would take a bottle? How can I stop her from biting when nursing? Thank you.

These are both difficult situations. When giving baby a bottle, they often don’t want to take it from Mom because they know the boob is available. They often won’t even take a bottle from something else if mom is in the house. if you are having someone else give the bottle, be sure that they offer it before baby is extra hungry. You could give baby a bottle with just a small amount of water in it. Let baby play with the bottle and then out of curiosity, they will often, start to drink it. Some babies never take a bottle and go straight to a sippy cup. For the biting, you should take baby off the breast and firmly say no. Try not to seem angry or shout. If baby cries, comfort her, but don’t give the breast back for a minute or two. Often babies will bite just because they’re bored and playing. If that’s what’s going on then they are done eating. You can watch for baby to slow down and take them off the breast before she bites. You can also prop baby up so that they have a deep latch. If baby is held close to your body with their mouth open wide, it’s harder for them to bite down. Toddlers at this age start to get heavy and slip down in your lap. This makes it easier for them to bite the nipple. I’ll attach another video on Bing for you to check out. What to do if Baby Bites while Breastfeeding kzread.info/dash/bejne/mJ6lj8V_n5rfmM4.html

Hi Mommy! If a breastfed baby is taking a bottle well, it’s best to “pace feed” baby so that baby eats just what they need. I have a video on paced feeding but I wouldn’t worry about that now since your baby is struggling with the bottle. It is normal for a breastfed baby to drink different amounts each feeding. When he does take a bottle (or cup), start with their average amount then add more if he still seems hungry. So since he takes 2, 3 or 4 ounces, I would give 2.5 or 3 ounces. When the bottle is almost gone. Take it away for a minute. Burp or play with baby then offer the bottle again. If baby is full, he won’t take anymore. If he starts crying when you take the bottle away, give it back right away. Add another ounces if he still seems hungry. Doing that little pause gives baby stomach time to tell his brain if he’s full. Adding just a little more to the bottle if he seems hungry, helps to not waste milk because if he drank from the bottle, it needs to be discarded after 1 hour. Does that help a bit? ❤️

Went from a breast aversion to now a bottle aversion. I'm stuck having to do dream feeds to ensure baby eats and I'm afraid even this method will wear out and he will stop eating. Tried cup feeding but it is too messy and he also doesn't like it since he has had to take medicine from a cup a few times. I noticed his breast refusal sy around 5 weeks, the bottle aversion has worsened since 11 weeks. This is very stressful. I know that dream feedings are not sustainable and would like to get solutions to our feeding problems before he also stops dream feedings and just stops eating completely. My son is currently 3 months old (13 weeks to be exact) . Please help.

As long as you always see 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours, you know he’s getting enough. He should be taking in about 24 ounces every 24 hours. He never went back to the breast? He doesn’t want to eat either way when he’s awake? Could your pumped milk be high in lipase? Does it smell a little like run or soap? I would see your doctor to be that there isn’t something else that’s going on. He may need to see a chiropractor. Maybe his neck or spine got out of place during pregnancy or delivery. Those are few possibilities. What’s your thoughts?

It can be difficult when they decide they don’t like a bottle. Many babies won’t take a bottle from mom. You may need to be totally out of the house and not just in another room. Some won’t take it from your partner either. They know that you are usually together. Have the person who gives the bottle, offer it before baby seems hungry. Let her play with an empty bottle to get comfortable with it. ❤️

Hello! Thank you for the advice. My baby is almost 7 months now and never used a pacifier (we tried). He lacks any desire to suck bottles, pacifiers, sippy cups. He chews them instead. With cup or spoon it's terribly messy as he chews it too and most of the stuff drips out. Since he already eats purees, he's poops are getting quite hard. I'm ill, underweight and my boobs are like two old socks (pretty empty), baby wants to nurse very often. So what to do with that chewing and no sucking?

  • @marycahillclc

    @marycahillclc

    2 жыл бұрын

I’m so sorry mommy 😞. Even if your boobs feel totally flat and empty, your body will still make plenty of milk but if your health isn’t good, then it’s better to get baby moved to formula or donor milk. You and your doctor need to decide if you should continue to breastfeed. When baby starts solids, his poop will be firm but if it’s hard and looks like pellets, he may be becoming dehydrated. Be sure to count wet diapers. He should still be having 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours. I know that cup feeding can be slow and messy but you may need to keep doing that for a while. Let him play with the bottle while it’s empty for a few days. If he gets comfortable with it, that should help. Then put a small amount of breastmilk or formula in it and let him hold it and play with it, with no pressure. Babies usually start to get curious about it on their own and take a drink. The chewing might also be from teething. His gums may be bothering him and the chewing feels good. Try a teething toy to see if he’ll get all of his chewing done on that instead. Try a bottle when he’s sleepy. When he’s half asleep, he may gently take a bottle. Just be sure to not pressure him if possible. Good luck mommy! I’m sorry that this is hard right now. 💕

So finally mom switched to only breastmilk and he took the bottle. He got sick and was away for a few days and now he totally refuses the bottle even with breastmilk. He either screams right away when we sit down in position or he would finally take the nipple in his mouth but he is not drinking. He is just chewing for like 45 mins today and he took about 1.75. What can we do about this? Coz he goes home and gets the breast and the struggle repeats again the next day.

That can be so stressful when baby just cries and won’t take a bottle. Do what you can to give baby a feeding before they’re even showing hunger signs. When baby is upset, try to keep yourself calm. You may need to walk around with baby to get them to calm down. I know this can be hard when you have lots of other children to care for.. This baby might take milk or formula better from a cup or spoon. It takes extra time to feed baby this way, but they can do it. When babies do this, they will usually take more milk in when they are with mom. You can know that baby is getting enough if baby always has six or more wet diapers every 24 hours. So hopefully between you and Mom, there can be some communication about how many diapers baby is having to ensure that baby is getting enough. Baby might adjust in a few days, but it could take weeks. Some moms have good luck with dipping the bottle nipple in applesauce to get them to take the bottle. Just be sure to check with the mother to ensure that she’s OK with that. I wish I had a better answer. Thank you for caring for babies.❤️

Breastmilk is still very nutritious after a year and helps baby get needed fats and nutrients but solids should start to be a main source of nutrition after 1 year. It’s ok to go straight to a cup. There are some great ones that are even spill proof. ❤️ If you’re worried that she won’t be getting enough, just be sure she still has 6 or more wet diapers a day. She will probably take in more breastmilk when you’re with her in the evenings to make up for what she misses in the day.

I would think that coconut oil might help. I don’t know if you’re going to get her to stop sucking her thumb right now. With the changes going on with you going back to work, I don’t know if I would try to break that habit right now. Breastfeeding give nutrients but also lots of emotional support. So sorry mommy 😢 Sounds like she’s being a little stubborn. She prefers straight from the tap lol. ❤️ How old is she now? I know that it’s scary if she doesn’t eat during the day but baby probably takes in more when you are at home. You can know that she’s getting enough if you always see those six or more wet diapers every 24 hours. It can help her to get used to a bottle again, if you let her play with an empty bottle. Be sure that your Caregiver offers her a bottle or cup before she’s showing signs of being hungry. If she’s really hungry and stressed before the bottle, she will fight it even harder.

Sometimes a cup is the best choice. It will get easier but it’s hard right now I know. When she won’t drink much she will make up for it when you’re home but keep trying the cup and bottle. Is she having 6 or more wet diapers every day? Since you said that she has taken a bottle before, do you know if your milk is high in Lipase? If so, it will have a stinky smell to it. Sort of like metallic or soapy. It will taste strange too.

How many wet diapers does he have every 24 hours? It might not be that he isn’t getting enough but that something else is going on. Some babies at this age will still wake up to nurse every 2 to 3 hours but then go right back to sleep. If baby sleeps 6 hours, that’s considered sleeping through the night. Have you heard of dream feeding? This is where you nurse your sleeping baby. Try to pick baby up with out waking him, let him latch and nurse. When he’s back to sleep soundly, lay him back down. This keeps his tummy full. Breastfed babies need to eat more often because breastmilk digest quickly. Having it digest quickly is better for their tummy but they wake up often. Keep trying the bottle though if you’re needing more sleep. Try to have someone else give the bottle. He may need to be in another room than you. Also, offer the bottle early.

Breast-feed baby takes less milk than a formula fed baby would. Breastmilk doesn’t digest or absorb as well as breastmilk. So baby needs more, it’s not common for 11 week old baby to go 5 to 6 hours between a feeding all day, but it does happen. (5 to 6 hour at night is ok) Every baby is different. When baby is fed breastmilk they need an average of 24 ounces every 24 hours but if it’s formula, they should be taking in a little more. If you were to Pace Feed baby, he would probably eat more often but less at leach feeding. Pace feeding just means that you stop in the middle of the bottle and burp or play with baby for a few seconds or minutes. Then give the bottle back again. Continue to stop several times in feeding. When baby is full, they won’t take the rest of the bottle, but if they continue to drink, it’s best to get them all that they want. You’ll know that baby is getting enough if he always has six or more wet diapers every 24 hours. You also want to be sure that baby is growing and gaining weight well. If you don’t have a scale at home, often your doctors office will let you stop by just for a weight check. You don’t need to see a doctor when you do that. Usually a nurse will quickly weigh for you. Does baby seem to be having lots of wet diapers and growing well?

It can be so hard. 😢 Sometimes baby is more likely to take the bottle from someone besides, mom or dad. You two may need to even leave the house because baby senses if you are there. Be sure that a bottle is given to baby at the very beginning or even before hunger signs. Offer the bottle in the middle of a breast-feeding session but as soon as baby starts to fuss, stop pressuring with the bottle. If baby gets upset, they really won’t want that bottle. If you need to be away from baby for several hours, baby can usually be spoon or cup fed. Even at this young of age you can help baby take a cup or spoon. It can be a slow and messy process but usually it works out pretty well. If they refuse to eat, they will usually take in more from the breast when you are home. you’ll know that baby is getting enough if you always see six or more wet diapers every 24 hours. So sorry for the struggle mommy ❤️

Some babies are well over 12 months before they’re ready for solids. If baby’s weight gain is good, there’s usually nothing to worry about but keep offering food. Breastmilk has lots of nutrients for toddlers too. Some people worry that baby needs more but Breastmilk’s nutrients are fully absorbed. Always discuss it with your doctor though. Many moms will do “Baby led weaning”. This is a way to introduce solids. They go straight to solids. Starting with safe sizes. Toddlers love to touch and feel things. Giving them pieces of avocado, bananas or crackers, give them little foods to play with and chew on. ❤️

Many babies will go back and forth from breast to bottle but there has been lots of research, showing that when moms give a bottle from birth, and their baby doesn’t want to take the breast again, it cuts breastfeeding rates down considerably. You can definitely start both breast and bottle from the start if you’re ok with the possibility of bottle feeding only. As far as skin to skin, this is a personal choice to not do skin to skin or to limit it, but choosing to not, can reduce moms milk supply. Babies who are held skin to skin are usually easier to soothe. NICU babies who are held skin to skin, have much higher survival rate. ❤️

  • @marycahillclc

    2 жыл бұрын

Yes, this can occasionally happen when moms only breastfeed. Most babies will go back and forth between breast and bottle quite easily but when mom is planning to exclusively breastfeed, it’s best for her supply if she exclusively feeds from the breast in the first few weeks if possible. Moms who start out using both breast and bottle, usually do fine but sometimes baby will prefer just the bottle and it becomes a struggle to feed from the breast. If a mom chooses to do both from the beginning, I support her and try to offer as much assistance as possible to help her maintain her supply and avoid other possible problems ❤️

@@jamilathomas6199 Nope. She still refuses it. But, we tried giving her water with a bottle, so she could accept the silicone at first. The nipple we used was Mam, but it doesn't leak when you turn the bottle upside down. So, she has to suck to get the water out. We laid her down on her back on the couch, gave her a book or the phone to scroll (yes, in this emergency case) as distraction and I held the bottle. It worked for couple of secs. After some period, I tried with Lanosinoh bottle again. She was kinda accepting it for more seconds. So, I'm still trying it with that. In meanwhile, I try to give her formula with a spoon, daily. Sadly, I have to distract her to make her take couple of milliliters of formula. The table is always full with toys and random objects. My goal is to learn the taste of it. To this day, she has not fully accepted the formula. And the last change we did, I called my mom for help. She came for 10 days to live with us, to help us, because we were and still are mentally and physically drained of this daily fight. So, my mom was spending more time with her. Before she went home, for 2 days, my daughter took the bottle with formula without any problems and major distraction. She drank 40ml twice a day.
