I’m doing things like piano and lamda at a high enough level to get me UCAS points (and also plan on doing other extracurricular things over the next two years) Do you think it’s really worth doing an EPQ? only one out of five unis which I plan on applying to actually takes into account the EPQ in terms of grades. Hey Imogen, LOVE all ur vids but I have one pressing question! I’ve applied for Law and the offer rate is 1 in 5 yet acceptance rate is 1 in 15, what do u think r the different reasons for this? Why do so many ppl not end up getting in at the end???

  • @ImogenWhite

    I think because the law entry requirements are so high, normally a lot of students miss their offers and therefore are rejected. A Level results are currently generally higher than they would normally be which might explain why this is so confusing! Also thank you so much for your lovely comment, it really brought a smile to my face today!

I’m a year 11 student and currently planning to do economics, maths, chemistry and biology in my alevels. I did some research saying that further maths is needed for studying actuarial science or it’s gonna be less competitive in applying.

  • @ImogenWhite

    @ImogenWhite

    The actuarial science degree at LSE is excellent and will open many doors for a city career in finance. My room mate in my first year did actuarial science. FM is desirable but not essential. If your school offers it it might be worth taking. I know my room mate had FM which helped as the degree really stretches you mathematically. Good Luck!

    Hello! I applied to universities in two different years so I applied to - Kings , UCL, York, Manchester, Edinburgh, Royal Holloway, Bristol and Warwick! The Russel Group universities are a good starting point if you want a more research based university, but they still have quite high entry requirements on the whole and some really good universities (such as St Andrews) aren't included in the group so it's certainly not exhaustive!

    Are multiple contextual (2,3 or 4) disadvantages weighed more than say, one disadvantage, or is it if you make one of the criteria, then you're treated completely equally to all of the other contextual applicants?

  • @ImogenWhite

    @ImogenWhite

    2 жыл бұрын

    This is an interesting question Alex, I'm not entirely sure how they work out the contextual offer criteria but I think the best thing with the application is just to make sure they know everything that could possibly make a difference and just see how the application goes from there!

  • @ImogenWhite

    @ImogenWhite

    3 жыл бұрын

    It is your A level predictions that count and as long as you meet the minimum requirements you stand a chance. It really does depend on your personal statement and the course you choose. For Economics even 4 A* predictions can be rejected if your personal statement is weak. However, if you are choosing a course such as Environment and Development or Anthropology, you stand a better chance as their are fewer people applying.

    From the LSE website: www.lse.ac.uk/study-at-lse/Undergraduate/Prospective-Students/How-to-Apply/Entry-Requirements BTEC BTEC Level 3 qualifications (BTEC Nationals) are looked at on an individual basis for admission to LSE. Due to the structure and assessment of BTECs, they are not regarded as providing as good a preparation for our degree programmes as more academic qualifications. As BTEC qualifications are typically in non-preferred subjects they may be seen as less competitive for programmes that have a large number of well qualified applicants. Our entry requirements for students sitting the reformed BTEC qualifications (using the RQF specifications) are listed below. We also accept unreformed BTEC qualifications (using the QCF specifications), again on an individual basis. Typically all other entry requirements need to be met, including GCSE English and Mathematics at grade B and any Mathematics and Further Mathematics A-level requirements. You should ask your referee to note any extenuating circumstances that may have impacted upon the choice of courses available to you post-16. Qualification BTEC National Certificate (2 units) Not acceptable for entry BTEC National Extended Certificate (4 units) ONLY acceptable in combination with A-levels in two traditional academic subjects. Ahh that's incredible! Congrats on those predicted grades. I'm going to be brutally honest as you asked and the 5 in English language is likely to be the problem - LSE will just point blank reject you if you don't meet the standard entry requirements, especially for a highly competitive course like economics. This being said, with the background you have you should be good for applications at most other highly competitive universities! Sorry for not being the bearer of better news but hopefully that clears things up for you :)

I have a few German friends at LSE and I don't think they experienced too many difficulties with applying - it's very international so is one of the best set up universities for supporting international students :)

    Hey imogen! Started my A levels in September 2020 and now that I dont think we are doing our exams, I am getting a bit worried. I want to go to LSE to study economics but im not sure about my GCSES, I got all 8s and 9s in pretty much all my subjects but a 7 in art. i did foundation german as i kind of struggled with languages and my school requires you to be at a grade 5 at the end of year 10 to do higher german. At the end of year 10 before all this coronavirus stuff happened i was at 4+, borderline 5 but they still entered me for foundation at year 11 despite the fact I was working in higher german at the beginning of year 11 after some convincing. I was given a 5 which is the maximum grade. Im worried this has ruined my chances to get into LSE. Could I get a honest opinion on this please? Hi Klia, If your GCSEs are all 8s and 9s with a couple of lower grades in subjects that aren't English and Maths this won't have ruined your chances at all! Your subjects now sound perfect for economics, I would say it's definitely worth an application!! LSE take a holistic view of your grades and tbh for economics German and Art aren't totally necessary so they won't be too bothered by those grades. Hope this helps!

Most of the 22,000 will have the required grades, but there will be a good proportion that don't meet the requirements eg. don't have a 6 in GCSE English and Maths or have been predicted AAB for an AAA course. The main thing that people get rejected for is their personal statement. After grades, this is the most important part of the application to concentrate on. Good luck!

    Hi, I want to apply to lse, my current a level subjects are Bio Math and Econs. If I get A* for all of them what are my chances of getting in. Should I be doing a level chemistry ? Also if I do as fm do the recognize it even tho it’s not the full a level?

    it is a full a-level , so they would look at maths and further maths as 2 seperate a-levels

    As long as your GCSEs meet the requirements you should get equal consideration. Are your A levels achieved grades or predicted grades?

    LSE is my main priority in term of future university, and I want to do BS in business management. However I have C in both English and Math for my IGCSE’s, so if I will get A’s on English and Math on my A levels and have academic achievements like certificates for these subjects, will LSE consider my application ?

    I am an offer holder for postgraduate in LSE and maybe Imogen can confirm what I'm about to say but.... if you have the minimum requirements for the course you want, you should focus more on the personal statement. I, for example, didn't have the BEST grades in my undergrad, I barely scraped the minimum requirements but I did a good job with my personal statement, references and the rest of the application and it granted me an offer. So, don't start by comparing yourself with how the rest are, if you have the minimum requirements work hard on the personal statement and everything else to make your application more appealing to the university. That applies to any university as I've been accepted into 7 UK unis with what I used to believe were "mediocre" grades.

    Hi Iyanu, Luisa is absolutely right. I don't know the average of what people got but I know there is a range all the way from people with AAA (Like me!) all the way up to people who got 3 A*s! At LSE as long as you have met the requirements, the focus switches to your personal statement and that's the more important part of your application!!

    would you still stand a chance if you didn't take further maths in year 12 but have done academically well for your year 12 ? i really really want to get into LSE and do bachelor of economics there, however during my year 12 i did the mistake of not taking higher level maths so i don't exactly meet the entry requirement but my atar is above the meeting requirement and i had gotten 7 A* in my igcse. Im aware the chances of me getting accepted is slim due to not taking further maths but what if my grades for my year 12 economics is outstanding and my performance in other subject is excellent as well. in addition i've also been a mentoring other students during my year 12 and i'm willing to take further math online courses and lessons outside of my year 12 syllabus to prove my eligibility and background in maths. However, i am not sure what are the math exams and courses recognized by lse . Unfortunately, its too late for me too now take math subjects as part of my syllabus itself as ill be finishing my year 12 soon, hence my school doesn't allow the option of changing subject combination any longer. what would your advice be ?

    Edit: I figured it out. Hi again Imogen. Im applying as we speak, please help me. Under Education in the application form, it says Level of degree. Options include 1st degree of a University, Graduate diploma, Masters degree, Research degree. I have a Bachelor's degree, why isnt that listed? Is that the equivalent of 1st degree or Graduate diploma? Cant seem to google the answer to it. Thanks.

    @@djmagzbtd I believe they use 1st degree of a University given that a first degree could be a bachelors, a licenciado (if you are in Latin America for example), professional degree or whatnot, which is equivalent to undergratuate but not the same...so, to summarize, it is a more broad way to refer to the first degree at a university
