I just finished school last week and passed my exam . I watched your videos throughout my entire course. I’ve been really bummed out that I haven’t received anything back kinda regretting that I even took the class . But thanks for this video it gave me a little hope .

Don’t have regrets about completing the program. Keep moving forward and don’t give up. I have students who got hired after months of looking. Some after a year. Keep going and keep educating yourself.

Use this in conjunction with taking another course. Ive already been an EMT for 13 years,so when I go for phlebotomy interviews I plan to kind of put it out there that I've already had thousands of hours of patient contact and field experience.

Bit late on this video, but thought is inquire. I'm doing light phlebotomy at my CNA job now. Right now only working with butterflies, but done around 100 sticks, along with skin punctures for Accu check. I am going to school for phlebotomy in September. Will my phlebotomy done as a CNA count as proper work experience? For anyone curious, I work overnight so they had us do on the job training to learn basic phlebotomy. Mainly light green and lavender tubes, sometimes red and gray. Never cultures and rarely on ice. Thanks!

Very good advice. I just finish my phlebotomy course and I’m little bit insecure about language. I’m not American and I have to dwell with lot of medical terms . Those are new for me. Could you give some advice about this ? Thanks

Olivia A-Van Boekhout The best advice I can give you is to be confident. Do not let the patient see you afraid or insecure. Even at your interview, be confident and willing to learn. If you don’t know something don’t be afraid to let them know that you will look it up or check for the answer. Keep good eye contact and be friendly. Smile too.

Good, solid video, thank you for posting. I'm working on becoming a PA, and I need 2000 hours of HCE. I'm leaning towards phlebotomy, would it be advisable to be upfront about this on my appliacation and/or interview?

RedHermit Yes, you should mention that in the interview. The majority of places like to hear that you are continuing your education. Be open and honest. Thank you for the comment.

Good advice for newcomers to the field. Do you think it would also apply to those of us with uneven or discontinuous or gaps in our experience? For 9 years 'I worked as a MA at a hospital during the day but blood draws were done by the lab; so even though I could have done them, I did not. Furthermore I learned phlebotomy on the job and was grandfathered in. , Simultaneously, I worked 2-3 evenings as an MA at a free clinic where I did do blood draws daily. Then I left the area and moved; my new medical job trained me as a sterile process tech & surgical tech. After 10 years, I miss the pt interaction, so I am returning to MA /phlebotomy. I finally took a formal phlebotomy class and passed with the highest score. I just finished an internship (64 hours) during which I did 73 draws. I also did POCT and MA work with pts. Should I mention all this experience? Some of it is very old.

Great advice! I'm in the UK and I have just become phlebotomy certified and also did some live blood training on the phleotomy course. There's not much work online at the moment. Would you recommend taking a resume into hospitals and blood clinics? Thanks.

Debbie Perkins Thank you. If Hospitals and blood clinics welcome walk-in resumes, then yes. That would be a great way to introduce yourself to them. But most in US take only online resumes. Good luck.

Smiley Jpg Everything still applies, you just need to have the confidence in the interview and that you will be a hard worker since you have never had a job. Tell them why you became a phlebotomist and why you are entering into the workforce as one.

I am currently studying with an online phlebotomy class (not Pheb. Solutions) in a state I do not live in. I can't even get anyone to let me come in to do my 30 draws to complete the class! Amer. Red Cross won't allow me because they offer their own class. Hospitals offer their own as well or they are affiliated with colleges and only accept students or externships from those colleges. I'm sorry I didn't know that before I started an out of state online program. I feel I'm stuck and will most likely have to enroll(spending more money) in a local program just to be able to complete the program so I can continue into the job market.
