Great ambient tone doesn’t need to be expensive. It’s true that we are living in a golden age of guitar gear; every year we see the release of groundbreaking, feature rich, and inspiring new devices that push the boundaries of what “playing guitar” even means. It’s inspiring, exciting, daunting, complex, and expensive. So lets take a moment. Let’s step away from the arms race that is modern experimental gear and talk about the fundamentals of “great ambient guitar tone.” We’re going simple here with a drive, a preamp, a modulation pedal, a delay, a reverb, and a cam sim. Everything you need, nothing you don’t. And FLAMMA brings you each of these tools for less than $90 each. Great ambient doesn’t need to be complicated or confusing. And it certainly doesn’t need to be expensive.

I'm a big flamma fan, i already had 6 or more of their pedals. this video convinced me to look into the preamp/cabs as i hadn't given much thought to my clean tone. Gonna demo the cab sim later. This video was phenomenal! 🙏

Appreciate this one very much… not so much about how much they costs, its also the availability of those amazing niche pedals are limited in my area… and Flamma is somewhat available. Thx Mark.

Thank you for making this video !!! I just bought all those same Flammas to put together a ambient board in my home studio. You really gave me a great starting direction in where I want to go musically. I have been researching the Flamma Line for a couple weeks and decided these are perfect especially for my budget to get started. And I just subscribed too !!! This is gonna be a blast...Darryl.

What a great idea for a video. I released an album this year using pedals that range from £40-£200 (available in all the usual places). It is possible. I think the challenges will come for me when I want to find some new sounds that often many folks get from the more expensive pedals. Will be a fun journey though. My next steps will be to head into the direct recording space (probably a Simplifier Deluxe) so that I can record silently in the house and deal with string noise.

@@markjohnstonofficial haha well I have a 5 year old daughter so I get woken up early. Am excited too see these videos am a worship leader and I love the hx stomp and other pedals. But it's tough to always spend 650 or more on just one pedal and am not saying it's not worth it but it can be tough to do that.

@Mark Johnston Hey, love your channel! Do you need the FS06 preamp pedal, if you are trying to use the FS07 cab pedal in an "ampless" rig? (I know others on KZread have said they are being marketed to work one with the other.) Could you substitute....say....one of your favorite "clean boost" pedals like the 1981 Inventions DRV in place of the FS06 preamp pedal, in such a setup and get good results for a clean-boosted ambient guitar sound, with good tone, and adequate gain? Is a preamp absolutely necessary in this setup? Also, is there a way to tame the volume of the single-knob fuzz "Singularity" effect (....I'm trying to using the Collision Devices Black Hole Symmetry pedal's fuzz with the Flamma FS06/FS07 preamp/cab simulator....) if using a digital amp sim like the FS06 preamp from Flamma? (I realize now that that's probably why you ran your signal into your Harmony amp in your signal chain in your Black Hole Symmetry demo....to get the fuzz to interact with an analog tube preamp.) Keep doing what you do....both on the channel, and with Almanor! Great stuff!

I think with any hobby or musical journey with gear it’s about going one piece at a time. Rather than thinking about it as a 5,000 investment. One, you get to deeply learn each piece of gear and what it does to your around rather than just surface level knowledge of a bunch of pedals. Two) each pedal will inspire more playing and 3) pedals accumulate before you know it without feeling like you just dumped a down payment on a car.

@@timlee2580 I would describe the sound of the CKk stereo reverb as very powerful, deep and rich..A brilliant reverb for huge ambient soundscapes..The Immerse is more dynamic soundwise..More middle and high frequencies etc..also excellent..I have them both on my board.. Having them both on and your in humongous ambient sound territory.. Also I have just ordered a Dreadbox Darkness so Il have 3 reverbs!!I sold my beloved Flamma to help fund other pedals but it will always have a special place in my heart...

I have an FS22 Ekoverb pedal. The FS02 Reverb and the FS03 Delay pedals are also attractive, but I don't want to spend for something redundant and collect unnecessary pedals. Do FS02 and/or FS03 add so much over the FS22 that worth buying? Which gives more plus over the Ekoverb? Both? Please help. Thank you.
