How to get good Telecaster Tone (Best Amps + Pedals)

Музыка

Good Telecaster tone - that's always a tough task for guitar players. In my experience, guitarists need to start with the basic fundamentals of good Telecaster tone - solid guitar/amp combinations as well as considerations regarding guitar pedals that fit the frequencies of the typical Telecaster tone.

    Great video man! I'm digging the tones you are going for here, and I applaud your willingness to take a firm stand on some of your views and tone/pedal tips, etc. Some KZreadrs seem afraid to say anything definitive regarding tone so I appreciate that. If I could add a few thoughts - as you said, a Tele has treble and presence in abundance and I think some people stay away from it because they mistakenly think it's only about that bright and twangy sound. But I do think a Tele actually has a strong midrange presence as well, certainly not lacking. Historically it's been hard at times to tell the difference between a Tele and a Les Paul with early PAF's, example Led Zeppelin I. I liked how you talked about the pairing with darker mid-range focused amps like Marshall (which I also personally enjoy believe is underrated) and you contrasted it to some classic Fender amps. You probably are well aware, but just to add on to this topic for anyone else, mid-scooped Blackface amps (and I believe just about any amp with a bright cap) that sound quite bright at '3' on the volume knob tend to start to emphasize the midrange more (and roll off treble) as you turn them up to the point where they naturally compress and approach edge of breakup. A Deluxe Reverb set to somewhere around 5-7 on volume is a completely different animal and in that situation a Tele might not sound harsh at all if you can be that loud with your band.

    That's the issue though - I don't have fixed settings on any Kemper profile I use. Depends so much on the song, what's going on in the backing track behind it, how I need to push it, etc. etc. Get a Tele, a fairly dark sounding amp, and go from there.. it'll never be "my" tone anyway, but it could get you yours ;-)

  • @spross216

    I agree that these things affect your tone. Your tone is a sum of all of its parts…BUT not all of those parts I think are created equal. I think speaker choice should be the first thing considered when thinking of your tone. It’s the last filter in your signal chain, and would have the most prominent effect. Likewise if you’re di into front of house or recording, your choice of ir should be considered first before amps, pedals, or pickups . I would love to hear your thoughts on speaker choice and what speakers or irs you prefer with your tone.

    I tend to lean towards HiWatt sim or Marshall Super Lead sim, but, I turn bass and mid 100% and 0% for treble. You're right, still ice picky treble, but I liked it somehow, although they sounded better when I'm using my humbucker guitar rather than my telecaster.

    Good ear, thanks! My delay setups can get pretty elaborate, but they change depending on the song, mix and workflow I’m in. The sound bites in this video are from months ago, so I can’t exactly remember, but in general, some stereo delay with modulation, could be a Boss DD-3 into a slight flanger, could also be a UAD plugin in the DAW. In any case it’s stereo delay, that much I can say for sure!

  • @florisvanlingen

    @florisvanlingen

    A Tube Screamer has a mid hump and tightens up the bass which is great with most Fender Amps but in combination with most more modern Marshall's there's better options in my opinion.

    Good Tele tone? There's too much overdrive here to tell. Play cleaner, ditch the pedals, and roll back the guitar's tone control 90 degrees _before_ adjusting your amp. That's it.
