How to get around at the Chicago O’hare international Airport - part 1
The Chicago O’hare international airport ( or just O’hare by those familiar with it)is one of the busiest in the world. With over 50 million travelers yearly and some 208 world wide destinations offered.
Being such a busy airport, the city has created tunnels and trains to facilitate movement around the airport. In this video we will take a look at them and how a visitor can find their way around the airport departure and arrival areas.
Part 1 covers the airport transit system ( people mover) and the tunnel system that leads to the cta train to the city.
Part 2 (released june 2022) covers taking the ats to the car rentals and economy parking.

Thank you for the in depth explanations!
Never flew internationally out of Chicago before but this video was super helpful. In person if I saw terminal 5 but there was no 4 I might have been confused for a bit. Video saves me the anxiety of not knowing hahah thank you .

I'm flying through Chicago in June but I only have a layover of 1h 25 mins to get through immigration, customs, security etc and from terminal 5 to the others. I am already panicking. This video helped a bit.

I’m gonna fly to Chicago next week and I’m also panicking.! I gotta get to one of the domestic terminals after arrival and someone told me it takes at least one hour to get to the domestic ones via train.! Ny lay over is around 3:50 h, So, I guess you already had your flight, and it would be great if you could share some of your experiences with me. 🙏

@@Pari991-y3o I made my flight, but only because it was delayed. I spent over an hour waiting in line at immigration, but everything after that was really quick. and the train to the domestic terminal took about 15 minutes if I remember correctly:) 3 hours and 50 minutes should be enough, I think:)
6:05 My brother is coming to visit us in Cleveland Ohio. Because he has never flown before and doesn't speak English, I suggested to take direct Polish LOT flight from Krakow Poland to Chicago, instead of taking three flights one way. I found your video very usefull since I'm going to pick him up from Chicago airport. Thank you!

Hi 😊 Nice j Bond
O'Hare has no "terminal 4" is because no pilot will want to fly in and out of “terminal 4”。 In Asian languages “terminal 4" means "terminal death". Pilots know the meaning of "4". It is also being avoid for flight number bounding for/ from Asia. They will use "8" instead, 8 means "prosperity"

Thanks for the info. I hadn’t heard that, but would explain why 4 isn’t there.
Thank you for a detailed video. I have to pickup someone at the terminal 5 arrival. Can we get in there and meet at the baggage claim, or they have to come to the pickup area? :)
@TravGuideChannel
Жыл бұрын
You won’t be able to meet them at baggage. After they get their baggage, they then need to go through customs and then after that, through the doors and once past doors, is where visitors are waiting.
You want me if we're flying to Rochester Minnesota and we just need to stop for connecting flight there in Chicago do we need to go to a different place from where we get off the plane? Or will we most likely just take off from the same spot where the plane landed? Also do you know about wheelchair rental or how to get a wheelchair there after my wife's open heart surgery on our way back?

when you book with the airline you should be able to request special assistance at that time. As for connecting flight it will depend. You may need to walk to another concourse, but if the same airline it often has most their flights in the same terminal.
I have been told that using the ATF for a connecting flight from California arriving terminal 1 we don't need to go through security again - is that correct? Is everyone on the ATF already cleared through security?
@TravGuideChannel

All domestic terminals are connected on the secured side. So if connecting from one domestic terminal to another domestic terminal , you shouldn’t have to exit and go through ATF again. you can find the other domestic terminal walking within the secured area. But if you are arriving on a domestic terminal, and need to catch an international flight, which most international flights depart from terminal 5, then you would likely have to exit the secured domestic area, and then go to terminal five and check in again through the checkpoints.
If I'm taking a flight to colombia 🇨🇴 but I have only one stop in Florida, do I still need to board on the international? Or is it for non-stopping flights

When you get your ticket, the terminal will be given. My guess is it would be at a domestic terminal if your first leg is a domestic connection.

I'm considering flying business class on United for the first time but I'm nervous about not knowing whether I'm meant to be in a different security checkpoint than everyone else. Is there a different business class security line that I have to make at O'Hare? And is it easy to find?
@TravGuideChannel

You can always get in the regular security line. I believe O’Hare does have a fast track security line, I never used it (except once when was late and needed expedited to make sure I didn’t miss my flight)But I don’t fly first class usually. But they have people that usually stand at the entrance to lines providing information. You can ask if wanting to go through the fast track line if you qualify. But always you can go through regular security.

Is it possible to take Uber from the international terminal, 5, and where is the are to wait for Uber?
@TravGuideChannel

Hi, I’ve not used ride share like uber at O’hare, so don’t keep updated on it. I read though ride-share like uber is no longer available at terminal 5. According to the local chicago news all uber rides are now to be at terminal 2. (Since feb ,2023 according to news). If true you would need to take the ats (airport transit system) from terminal 5 to terminal 2. www.flychicago.com/business/media/news/pages/article.aspx?newsid=1751

I can't even sleep or work in my yard or enjoy my pool in the summer bc they chosen to put their aircraft highway directly over my house. Days on end of air traffic extremely low I'm 20 miles west there's no reason for this shit every 15 seconds I get 2 planes 1 just north 1 just south I've put my complaints on their Google reviews and spoke with federal agents who laugh at my complaints about my lack of sleep and crashing my vehicle bc I didn't sleep for days bc of the noise. I've looked into the health effects of airline noise and its tremendously effects and I'm starting to feel my blood pressure change. I can't even hold a conversation in my driveway without yelling or watch TV on full volume. Oh the federal agent responded with he could see there was 1600 flights over my house that day

I used to live about 5 miles from the airport in Mount Prospect, I definitely understand how noisy planes can be when this close.
Never again. O'Hare is way too confusing to navigate. Why are there terminals and concourses, and never in an orderly arrangement? When you ask someone, nobody ever knows what terminal they are in and there and signage is spotty at best. I got lost three times trying to get to 'C' concourse. It's not obvious where the escalators are to get to the tunnel to 'C.' If I knew the gates ahead of time and I had long layovers, it would not be a problem. However, United push up the departure time so I had less than thirty minutes to get to my connection. And you never know where your arrival gate is or where your connection gate is until you land. I like Atlanta's high speed underground train, it gets you from one area to the next very quickly. My home airport CLT is also easy to navigate, despite it being under construction for fifteen years.

When it comes to big cities, there will be parts that you have to know to avoid. The smaller towns usually are pretty safe ( compared to the larger cities) in general. But even some of the smaller towns ( under 20k) there can be some areas less safe.
