I have a 2016 Mustang gt. When I bought it, it had sync 3 version 1.0. I used the usb method to update it and it took 2 tries. It took between 1-2 hours for me and you have to leave the usb in when it’s done, turn the car off, open the door, turn the car back on, then it’s updated and you can remove the usb. After doing this, I followed the instructions in the video and installed the usb. It now works perfectly. Thank you for the video!

I have a 2016 Ford Mustang and got the Sync 3 version 3.0 updated but the usb port hub won't work. Which one did you buy to replace it to get Apple Car play to work? WE did this last year, gave up and trying again this year.

I have a 2016 Ford F-150. I'd accepted that I didn't have Android Auto (or Apple CarPlay) on this unit. Then I watched your video, spent about an hour downloading Sync3 V3 and installing it, and ordered a new USB port (thanks Amazon overnight ;) ) The new USB port arrived today, and five minutes later I was plugging in my Android phone and about jumped through the roof when it popped up with the "Android Auto" screens! I feel like I just got a new truck! Thanks!

@@khalfanalharthy7508 The process should be the same for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Upgrade your Sync3 software to Version 3, and upgrade the USB hub.

This works great. I was able to get the part out of the console just using my fingernails. Tip: Once that this is out, unplug the other than that is on it and it will come out farther making it easier to get the plugs off the USB module. That other cable is a lot shorter than the ones which go to the USB module.

How come a Ford fusion 2016 hybrid doesn’t have sync 3:(

It worked great Then original part number has been superseded to HU5Z-19A387C rather than ending in "A". Hardest part for me was removing the the hub from the larger plastic piece. Holding down the locking clips was tricky. Reinstallation took about 1 minute.

Good video. I actually ordered a genuine Ford part directly from Ford, as it was cheaper. Followed these instructions to install the hub, it works great.

Hey! So if you go with the 2 USB ports , the front USB port in the car won’t work? Will it affect the Apple car play or is it that you just can’t use that USB port for anything ??? :)

I had apple car play in my Ford Fusion 2018. It was SYNC3, after updated this to Sync 3 v 3.0 my apple carplay doesnt work. Any ideas??? The same cord and phone

I have 2016 Escape Titanium pkg. trying to update my Sync 3 to newest version. I switched out USB port to the new one for Apple Play. I still have version 1. I downloaded new version to flash drive but is not updating new version. Should I have left old USB port in?

Likely more than just a port. I'm betting there is firmware in the package that loads up the Carplay software.

But does it work in the front USB?

I got this message after I switched the usb hub “this usb device is not supported please remove”

So I just updated mine using this method (version 1.0 to 3.0). I bought the usb port but didn’t install it. I used the stock port, downloaded the software on a usb and followed through with all the steps. However… it took me 2 hours.. two fucken hours lmao! Idling. I was at “3 miles to E” and I was shitting bricks and as soon as I was putting my seatbelt on to drive off to get gas and say screw it, the update completed lol so have at least half a tank lol

Do I need to change the port for android auto as well??

No, the original USB port works with android auto once you updated to Sync 3.0 and above. Android auto will show on your Sync 3 screen but carplay is not supported. Other then not having carplay The other issue you will get once in awhile at startup is, you will get a popup screen saying USB port is not compatible. But easily cleared when 'OK' button pressed.

It tells me that the usb is not supported/: why isn’t it working for me ? I’ve tried two usb hubs from ford and Amazon and neither work. And yes I have sync 3.0

I have the automatic California special 2016 mustang GT and trust me you do not want that piece of crap made in China getrag MT 82 piece of crap manual transmission. There are nothing but problems with those manual transmissions you should be happy to have the automatic because I’ve driven both and I prefer the six speed over the manual any day

@@MaxedOutPlayet I had a 2011 mustang GT with the MT 82 and all the thing did was whine like crazy and the clutch pedal would stick to the floor, every other American manufacturer puts the TR 6060 whether you have a challenger or a Camaro in their vehicles Ford is just getting cheap when it comes to their manual transmissions but that is a Chinese made transmission and it’s a piece of garbage and now the shift forks are breaking and the brand new mustangs and there is a lawsuit going on with Ford with those transmissions. There was a lady who had her shift forks replaced six times and then they bought the vehicle back because the transmission is a piece of crap. Now if they stuck to TR 6060 in the mustang that would be better but there is no way I would ever buy a Mustang with that MT 82 transmission ever again and I have driven both And for some reason the six speed just feels faster off the line

Any one else have an issue with the USB port not working after switching it out?

@@28shubhamarora Check the pins on the back of the APIM unit. Apparently pin 8 is what powers the USB ports. That pin was bent off when I received it and ended up needing a replacement unit sent to me from the seller. Spent hours troubleshooting and after getting the replacement had it working in less than 10 minutes.

@@connor-betts thanks for your reply. I am getting power in the USB port. When I connect my phone to it, it does start charging. Which means that the power pin is probably fine. Or did your device charge as well with the broken part?

I don't understand why ppl buy these very expensive USB port when there's plenty of OEM used USB ports on Ebay for half the price. Just make sure to update your Sync to 3.4 and on Ebay, find your make and model BUT find the one when the Year they came out with carplay feature.

Hey man so Ive been having issues with my apple car play as of recent. It works a majority of the time but sometimes i plug my phone into my car and it just doesn’t recognize it and the car doesn’t pick up car play. Even after turning the car and my phone off and on it wont pick it up. Any solutions or info?

Roman’s Garage preciate it ive been told that but I know that the phone is getting “connected” per se because I see it charging when the car is on, but like I said the car wont recognize the device at all. It doesn’t happen often but is super annoying when it does. Do you think it could be something to do with shorting the usb device connector when this does happen?

@@darkstabber9937 Thanks for the update! I'm probably backing out of the 16 gt premium I was looking at anyway due to it's AC not working (dealership says they'll fix it, I just find it sketchy). I'll prob look at getting a 17 instead to avoid having to do this upgrade. Best of luck getting it to work!

Wilber Carcamo 2015 mustang came with SYNC 2 or what they called “my ford touch”. 2016 and up have SYNC 3. So no it won’t work on a 2015 mustang

I’ve actually been trying to download the files from Ford with my computer for days now but their files are corrupt. Waiting to hear back from them on that. Meanwhile, I received my double USB port but with only one mini USB plug on the back not to like my original single USB hub which had one mini connector on the back for each plug.

Henry Nheoun correct me if I’m wrong but there’s a usb and sd slot near the sync system. But inside the arm rest there’s just one usb slot. Can’t we replace it with that one?
