How To Get a Rabbit

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

PLEASE READ:
One thing that I want to be fully transparent on: I got Cinnabun from a bad breeder. I share my entire story here: bit.ly/3HuDIQJ
In this video, I reference a fairly positive experience I had with one breeder. While that experience was true, I ended up not purchasing from that breeder. I mention this in my story time linked above.
Don't be like me. There are too many rabbits out there that need homes for us to be giving our money to people practicing bad breeding tactics. Do your research!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello Buns! Welcome to Cinnabun Sundays, a weekly video series where we talk about all things bunny. We are kicking off a five part series all about how to get a rabbit and how to prepare for a new rabbit. Today we are talking about the difference between adopting a bunny and going through a breeder.
Today's topic is a sensitive one. I am sharing my own personal opinions and thoughts on the subject - but every owner/family is different. I hope that these pros and cons can help you make the best decision for yourself and your future bun. And remember: the most important thing is not WHERE your bunny came from, but the life you provide it with.
Please keep the comment section positive and supportive. Thank you so much for watching!
    Soooo yea... I got my bun from a pet store. But to be completely honest. My bun, Bailey, picked me. He was the only one that hopped over to greet me and gave me sweet kisses. My heart melted for him immediately and I knew he was meant for me. I love him so much. Now I’m getting a foster to hopefully bond with him. This time I am going through a rabbit rescue. 🥰😍😁
    When I got my past rabbit it was because my best friend was moving away and they didn’t have space! He was my first pet (I was only 6 at the time and Barney (the rabbit) was already around 4 years old)! He was really shy and had a poor diet (muesli stuff🤮❌) so we took him to the vets and they informed us on a proper bun diet and that they needed they’re yearly boosters on his vaccines and stuff. Back then I didn’t have any technology in the house so I didn’t know about research, but I instinctively went in his playpen and laid in there with him! He soon got really close with me, and trusted me loads, I couldn’t have asked for a better friend in an animal! Unfortunately in summer 2019 he passed at the estimated age of 11 (may have been a bit older)! It’s been so hard without him, and I never ever thought he could have helped with so much! Miss you Barney 💖💞❤️ (and great informative video)!
    I got my rabbit from a breeder. She is used to people and she is healthy. But as you also say, it must be a breeder who knows something about rabbit welfare. The one I bought my rabbit from was so kind to them. They come out in the running yard every day from morning to evening. I actually could not say anything that she did wrong. When we bought her we also had to sign a lot of paper, and we also got a pedigree. We also had to write what we could offer of home, and then she chose wich home was the best, and she was allowed to say no if she did not think it seemed like a good rabbit home. I think it is wrong that people say you should not buy your rabbit from a breeder, because there are actually breeders who think about rabbit welfare. We just have to get those breeders who do not think about the rabbits but only bunny stopped. Most of the rescue bunnies is from places that actually dont know anything about rabbit welfare but basicly think just think about the money. I love your videos, and keep that good work! Cinnabun is such a sweetie❤️
    I got my bunny Peanut from nearby street in monsoon season. He was in a cardboard box peeking out from a small hole. I don't from where he came as our society does not allow pets. I still remember he was shivering when i picked him up. Unfortunately he was with me for 3 days. My parents were not allowing me to adopt him. They called the rescue and they took him from me. Now i am going to move out from my parents house to university hostel. They have assured me that i am allowed to have pet as long as it will be in my room. I am so excited to adopt one. 😊😊
    I got my bunny a few months ago and just discovered your channel! Thanks to you I was able to create a really strong bond with my bun! I am now working on free roaming him in my room because one we have a dog and two my parents don't believe I can train him to use a litter box. (Still working on that) I adopted him from my neighbors because their daughter forgot about him, and was neglecting him. He lived in a 2 foot square cage and didn't get any attention, prior to this I had been asking my parents for years if I could get a bunny and then finally they said yes! It was the best day of my life. He has been the sweetest little bunny that I could have ever asked for, sadly he is approaching his 8th year of life and is starting to get his little grey snoot. It makes me sad thinking of what ill do without him. But for now he enjoys stretching out in the sun and zooming around our garden! Thank you for helping me be a better bunny owner!
    My first 2 buns as a kid were acquired differently. One was from an animal charity and the other from a local person who rescued them. As an adult my two buns were bought from a pet store but they are absolutely given the best environment. Following some gi stasis, one had to be put to sleep. My next bun is from a reputable breeder where a few generations of the family are available to see.
    @@SincerelyCinnabun Hello, I was considering adopting two bunnies for the first time from an adoption center. I have heard you don't support bunnies living in cages and was wondering if that extends to hutches as well (I was considering a two story hutch with a side open pen they can play in). This hutch would be considered their sleeping/resting area as I have plans for them to be in a playpen or openly roaming if it suits their needs more. Here is a link to Amazon which gives you an idea of what the hutch would look like www.amazon.com.au/Rabbit-Wooden-Chicken-Guinea-Ferret/dp/B0778XZWW7/ref=sr_1_9?crid=3RQZOKNXG6I25&dchild=1&keywords=rabbit+hutch+indoor+for+2+rabbits&qid=1627477145&sprefix=rabbit+hutch+in%2Caps%2C324&sr=8-9 Please let me know if the hutch or hutches in general are good for rabbits Thank you Opie Lois
    My rabbits come from an auction. I wanted rabbits all my life but my parents said "no", well in 2018 my mom told me that her and my dad were talking and agreed to let me have my rabbits and I was SO excited! I did over 50 hours of research within 3 days and I asked mom if we're going to adopt from a shelter and she said "I don't know" well she called one of her brothers and that weekened he wentto the auction and got Thumper (my REW) and Blossom (his sister, same litter). My mom often tells me that I saved their lives because people around here go to the auction to get rabbits to basically train their dogs to hunt.
When they are ready to breed we will start making contracts and things for selling them! Both buns are currently in cages (that are 3 hope long) but we are looking into bringing them into the house, (we generally have a small house with no space and a big family thats louder so I think right now for awhile they are better off in the barn! But we haven’t had them a month yet and I’m still looking at Amazon indoor bunny cages so I can put my bunny in a cage for the night, when I bring her inside!
    Thank you for doing this video!!! I feel like a lot of people have been lead to believe that if you don't adopt, you're a bad person, when really there are some very good breeders out there. Especially for people new to bunnies, getting one from a responsible breeder can be much better than adopting, which I realized after going to my nearest rabbit rescue. A lot of them had behavioral issues from being neglected, and if you weren't experienced it could be hard to get them to trust you and be the perfect little bunny, not to mention the expensive health issues several had. If you can find the perfect bunny for you, adopt for sure, but it's not always the best move. I'll definitely be quoting you on the part about how the most important thing is that you provide proper rabbit care, I'm so tired of being judged because I got my bunny from a bad breeder when I was inexperienced and uneducated 😩
From what the shelter told me, she got very little care there, it was disgusting, there was waay too many rabbits, they were abused, neglected, the whole thing. She was very afraid at first, and i couldnt even touch her without her freaking out. So i took the time, and now shes become my best friend! she loves gentle pets, and loves it when im near :) were not all there yet, but she gets all the time she needs, im patient! her best buddy is a much smaller male (dont worry: both have been sterilized ;) ) he is from the same shelter, they had bonded before i took them home. Both are just such cuties, i love them so so much ❤️
I considered a breeder because I really want a specific bunny but I think you may have convinced me to adopt. I used that ARBA website to try and find the breed I wanted.     My little dude hopped out into traffic in front of us one day and we caught him. We did research while looking for owners. No one claimed him so he stayed with us. Not at all in the plans for life 😂. But now, I'm thinking after he gets neutered in going to see if there's a place that will help me bond him to a friend that needs adoption. And much as I would like to pick one, I think I'll just see either who really needs a home or who my bunny even gets along with. Who knows what kind of awesome duo I'll wind up with.
    I know this video was made a year ago, but I think it's still really useful for people wanting to get a bunny. I tried to adopt a bun but was denied in all rescues in my country, simply because my city doesn't have a rabbit specialist. And my argument that my local vet has a course and there's no problem for me to drive somewhere wasn't valid for them. My bun was adopted from my friend. I knew his whole story. She just couldn't take care of him and they didn't get along well. He was a gift from a friend for her that we both thought was ridiculous. He got litter trained before I had him. There comes me. He was almost 1 when I became his bun mum. He loved me from a first day, came to me, sat on my lap and I cried with happiness, because no bunny did that this early to me (I was co-care taker of buns for almost 12 years at this point). I threw away his old cage, bought him the biggest one that I could find (there were no xpens here), it's actually 3 tiers and he owns it till this day. But I only wanted him to have his private space, like his own room for litter box, bowls, hay and blankets. I had him fixed by a trusted vet in my mum's city (so I had to take him on a half an hour trip but it was so worth it), he's free roaming, 5 years of age and really spoiled bun. My mum always laughs that has better diet than me, because I could live on oatmeal but his lordship has to have the nicest hay that I could find. He has quite sophisticated taste, right now he has a custom mix of 3 types of hay. Yes, I know I'm insane :D
So I have a question, I want to to eventually have a free roam bunny, should I buy a cage and a pen, or just a pen? Should I get a hut or bed for the pen too?
    Noticed on your Craigslist it said Raleigh, Charlotte. Where are you located? I live in Raleigh. Interested in a bunny and watching videos and appreciate reality of owning a bunny.need to know, but seemed discouraging to me when watching one very informative video but finished feeling like they were hard to care for and a lot of work and mess they make… Really drawn to them. Enjoying your information and Cinnabon.
    I agree there's a ton of rabbits that need adopting, however, I got my bun off of craigslist, she wasn't handled or socialized and has been a very ill tempered bun (tho I love her dearly) rabbit fosters, in my opinion, are the best because they are rescues BUT also spay and neuter the buns for you and will vet out temperment, etc. I think the worst thing is to just get a bunny off of craigslist and hope it'll all be alright. Buns need lots of medical care in the beginning, shots, spaying, etc and a rescue is affordable and will get you off on the right foot. Just has been my experience and i wish i knew going into it. I'm glad I rescued my bun from a shed in a backyard that was out in the rain but she will never be a sweet, tame bun no matter how much I work with her. She's also a free roam bun in my house. We learned, thru lots of trial and error how to love and accept each other.
    I got my bunny from a flemish giant rabbit breeder. And the breeder told us what to do and what not to do in case we didn't do research (I did do research, but it just shows that the breeder know about bunnies) she also did not keep them in a cage which is really nice. I personally am perfectly fine with buying your pet from a breeder, or adopting. I just don't support the non professional breeders, 8f that makes sense. I tell this to a lot of people and then they would normally start an argument cause they don't understand what I'm saying
    I’m going to start by saying I’m only 16 but I was forced to take care of 6 rabbits the were bought as Easter presents when I was 11. My stepmother had made me take care of them as the oldest sibling and gave me a list of instructions and rules for taking care of them but it was everything that I later found out was toxic care for them. Even at that young age, I took the time out of my day to research about these beautiful bunnies that were placed in my care. I started selling art at school and earning money on my own to try and help them but unfortunately, my stepmothers dog killed all 6 bunnies after she “forgot” to close their pin. I, right now at 16, have been given the chance to heal from that and other traumas that she had caused and my moms side of the family is helping me save money to get a rabbit again. I want to give my future bunny the best life possible now that I’m able to have it in a healthy environment. My past with trying to help rabbits is the reason I get so mad when I see people buying them as Easter presents and keeping them in cages, and I’m so happy that you are out here helping to inform people on proper rabbit care. I wish this kind of content could reach more beginner rabbit owners but I’m just so happy that influencers like you exist. Thank you so much
    What I think is important to add to your points is that it is very important to really think about if you have the time to care for a bunny. Bunnys can get distressed in less then 12 hours when being hold alone, they can start to fear for their life because they are prey animals and in general bunnys are very social animals who live in groups where they groom and comfort each other and if this possibility is not given they could develop behavior disorders. It is thus very important to think about getting 2 bunnys. For proof that I am not making this up and that bunnys really need a companion here's an example from where I live. In Germany it is forbidden by law to only have one bunny because socially living animals (and rabbits undeniably belong to this) have the need to live with conspecifics so this is legally granted to them by our "Tierschutzgesetz" (animal welfare act) (§2 Paragraph 1). So please also consider this when thinking about getting a bunny
    My bf and I adopted a bunny from the local shelter (we live in Denmark). We don't know much about her, as she was found outside hopping. She has an earmark, but nobody looked for her so we think she was abandoned 😟 I don't know about other shelters around, but it was not cheap to adopt her. Pure adoption is $186, but she was vaccinated, checked and spayed as well 😊
I intended to buy my bunnies from an ethical breeder but I got so impatient and impulsive I got them from a backyard breeder and altho they seemed like a nice family. They had lots of different bunnies and some of them were in cages. I didnt get any papers or any real advice to be honest. I had knowledge knowing this and I still wanted bunnies. My girls do get lots of love 💜
The breeder I got him from is amazing! She's still around now that he's home with us over a 2 months span! It's not bad to get a bunny from a breeder but it's a lot of bunny 😅.
I also wanted to cover that I have to make sure it is okay with my family living inside there home. I am hopefully getting one in 2022 sometime in that year. Social distancing, masks everywhere, just getting to see family with/without masks etc. If you are reading this CB I love how cute you are!     I love your channel, but I fully disagree with your stance on breeders. I dont see a point in supporting a breeder when so many rabbits are on lists to be euthanized. Also, I dont know about other countries, but in Canada pet stores adopt out rabbits for local rescues and shelters. You still have to go through the full adoption process, the pet store just helps with the process.
They couldn’t give me any information on him though or his age. While he is a young bunny he isn’t a baby. This is my first bunny so I’m learning as I go. While he will let me hold him and will lay with me for a while. I have to catch him first which I didn’t know I wasn’t suppose to do until today. He has full access to my house though except at night but I let him go back into his home by himself. Any other tips would be soo appreciated!!
