    I never wanted to leave Italy more than when I went to the immigration office. It was HORRIBLE. I was there 8 hours and they somehow messed up my birthday on my temporary document making me literally 70 years old and I had to go back to the desk again to fix it. Apparently their mistake was my fault. Lots of eye rolling, immense disrespect, and the only reason I made it through is because my boyfriend was helping me. He was the only one I saw get treated with any respect because he was Italian. I dread the day I’ll have to go back to renew my permesso. It’s a horrible place. Also, you aren’t being negative at all. You’re being honest and that’s really important. There are many beautiful things about moving to Italy but dealing with immigration is NOT one of them.

    Oh boy... I'm an Indian. Let's see how it goes lol. I hope I don't need therapy after going there. Lol. I have only had goodness and kindness of Italians trying to help me, trying to come to my aid and generally be nice. But I have yet to hear a rather normal experience about getting the permesso di soggiorno done. In bocca al lupo as they say. Forse andrò bene tutto. Speriamo.

    Hey! Be prepared to spend a few hours. I think I was in there for about 2? I'm not sure. You're going to spend a long time in lines. Once you're actually speaking to someone for your appointment, it doesn't take that long, maybe 10 minutes. But then you have to wait in another line for them to take your fingerprints. Hope that helps!

    Hey! Great video. I'm a little confused about the order in which I do things here. I'm going to be coming over on a student visa, and I know I have to go request a residency permit right away. But they require proof of health insurance..so do I go get the health insurance first? Or is the paper I signed for my student visa saying I will go get insurance enough?

  • @AlyssaMaeFriend

    @AlyssaMaeFriend

    Жыл бұрын

    Get insurance, then send in your permesso app. You need to have everything ready for that and be extremely organized - you don't want any mistakes holding up your document, trust me! You have 10 days after arrival to get that in, so it should be enough time.

  • @AlyssaMaeFriend

    @AlyssaMaeFriend

    Yeah you have to get it if you're staying on a visa longer than 90 days. It would only get denied if you're missing essential documents, so just make sure you have everything and make a ton of copies. Other than that, nothing to worry about!

    I don't think there is an expected date- it's different for everyone. I'd say 45 days after you apply, that would be a good time to start asking about it. Everything takes forever here, so you have to be patient! haha

  • @AlyssaMaeFriend

    Hi Laura! That should be fine. If anyone stops you and asks, you can show the receipt and they will understand that your documents are being processed. It's handy to keep proof of that available anyway, because sometimes it takes months to actually get your permesso and someone may check one day. That being said, in the Rome airports, no one has ever stopped and asked me for any other documents 😅

    Unfortunately some of these people in these offices hate their jobs. I'm Italian leaving in Canada and when ever I need a document most of these government offices are rude and don't assist anyone. You may find the odd one helping someone but the majority should be fired.

    Of course I'll see it.. I see all comments hahaha I love chatting with people here!! 💛💛 So for my situation, I had someone sign a document stating I was staying with them and that they would "cover me" financially during that time. Doesn't apply to you, I'm guessing. If I were you, I'd ask the landlord for the original/registered one, AND bring copies. You never know what they might need, and originals are always the safer option.

    Thank you so much for sharing your experience Alyssa! I am from Sydney Australia and have just been accepted a Working Holiday Visa for Italy. I now have to go to the Post Office when I first enter Italy to apply for my Permesso di Soggiorno. I am concerned at how long it takes to actually get approved for an appointment at the Questera! If I leave Italy after applying for the Permesso, and am waiting for my appointment, do you think I will get questioned at the border as to why I am leaving? Especially if by the point I have exceeded my 90 visa free schengen days? I am just worried I will want to leave Italy before I even get the opportunity to get this thing! Please let me know your thoughts, and thanks again for sharing your experience!

  • @AlyssaMaeFriend

    Hey Chloe, congrats! I'm not sure if you'll have an actual visa printed in your passport. If you do, great. Border police will look at the dates of the visa in your passport. In Rome, your appointment will probably be 5-6 months out from when you apply. As far as leaving Italy while not yet having your permesso - if you're traveling within the dates on your visa, you have nothing to worry about, & on top of that, you can hold on to your paper they give you confirming your appointment date and show that to anyone who may question you. I really wouldn't worry about any of this though (:
