I've read that both the medical letter and certificate of residence is only valid for 30 days. I also read that if you have a current international driving permit, you only need to take the vision and reaction tests, not the online test.

You are correct fòr the one year licence in thailand But when it comes to renew for you 5 year licence then you have to do an easy test on computer and then print the results and take it to the transport dept

Better stay overnight Officially yes, but they are not very strict on this.

So the bank account for a retirement visa has to be new? You can’t set one up ahead of time? REALLY helpful video!

You say not to get the non imm O visa in your own country because it's dependent on purchasing expensive insurance. This is only for the non imm OA I believe? I realise different embassies have different conditions. This is the current info on the London RTE website.

Hi, A question about the dependant visa for a child you have with a Thai Citizen. Say you have the DNA test, what if the mother was making seeing the child very difficult and you rarely got to see the child. Is there a certain amount of days you must have custody to qualify for this visa?

Not needed if you re-enter during the first year after issue of the visa. After one year you need a re-entry as the visa has expired and is no longer valid for entry. May need careful planning, e.g. you leave 2 weeks before visa expires and want to come back after 4 weeks: re-entry permit needed.

Visa is best. You could extend the 30 day visa exempt stay by 30 days. But airlines might make problems if you have a flight booking for 60 days and no visa.

Very informative. Does 35K THB fee include multiple entry and opening of a bank account ? The DL agent fee you indicated 6K THB , does that include Car (with intern. permit) plus a new motorbike. I am trying to see the total agent fee for - bank acct + O visa + car DL transfer + new motorbike DL. Also, does one required to do 6 month lease for getting resident cert from landlord ? If so, that would be the first step. Thanks !

Multiple entry is about 4K extra, but it includes opening a bank account. The DL is done separately by an specialist agent.

A regular Non O multi entry allows only 90 days stay per entry. So normally you leave after 90 days and no report due (which is for staying LONGER than 90 days in the country). No report "from outside the country".

Great channel. I have some questions when applying for a Non Immigrant O (Retirement) Visa in Thailand. On initial application for the 90 days do I need to prove that I am staying for 90 days at a particular hotel or just that I am staying at a hotel on the day I apply? Does the same apply when applying for the extension for 12 months (eg is a 12 month rental agreement required)? Is the total stay for both visas 15 months or 12 months? Can I arrive on a 30 day visa exemption to apply (I have read that some immigration offices don't allow application on the visa exemption)?

Use an agent for your 90 days. The 15 months is only for the 1st time, after that it is every 12 months. Yes you can apply while on a visa exemption stamp.

What if you have the multiple entry visa does the 90 day reporting still apply if for some reason you have to be out of the country?

90 days reporting is only due if you continually stay longer than 90 days >IN< the country. 90 day cycle starts with day 1 when re-entering the country. And a regular Non O multi entry does not allow to stay longer than 90 days per entry (Non O-A is different).

If you have a retirement visa with multiple re-entries can you leave for longer than 90 days and still come back? I’m thinking of walking the PCT in the USA but that takes a fair bit more than 90 days.

Thai Cambodian land border crossing out and back is allowed twice only on a tourist visa during a 12month cycle. I understand there is more leeway by flying in and out of Thailand. Does this restriction apply to retirees with a multi entry retirement visa extension who need to use those land crossings such as Ban Puggard, Ban Laem Chanthaburi. Thanks in advance.

Don’t forget the Thai tax year runs Jan 1-Dec 31. So if you enter Thailand in early July you’ll be exempt from 2024 taxes because you’ll be spending less than 180 days in Thailand in 2024. The tax question over the 800k in the bank will be moot. And that’s if the proposed tax law even comes into effect. If it does I’m not seeing how they can implement it midway through a tax year….it will be Jan 2025 onwards at the earliest, IF it comes into effect. By 2025 you’ll be able to show having the alternative 65k/month income requirement instead (or a combination of income and lump sum). If your income is, for example, 50k baht per month, you’ll only need to have less than 200k baht (about $6k USD) lump sum in the bank around the time of renewal instead of the full 800k. Much more palatable.

When you arrive in Thailand i and then get the retirement visa i guess you need to show a return airline ticket. They wont let you in the country with a one way ticket , is that right?. Also do yhey do check ups on the bank account every now and then to see if you have the 800000b in the account. I wont have it and need it to be facilitated

You do NOT need a RETURN ticket, what you need is an ONWARD ticket out of Thailand. So you buy a 1 way ticket TO Thailand, AND a cheap cancellable budget airline onward flight to, say Cambodia or Vietnam, whichever is the cheapest, which leaves before the 60 day visa expires. Then when you arrive, just show that at Immigration, if they ask, say you want to see Cambodia after Thailand. They don't check your bank account.

i got my UK licence in 2002, a few years before they took off the part about low capacity motorbikes. To ride one I have to take a CBT and a test. It is something I've never done. Do i need to do that in the UK first or will the on-line test and practical test in thailand make me legal in thailand for a low capacity bike, say 80cc scooter?

I doubt if a Gambian driving license is valid at all. 1st time double visa is about 35K Thai baht

minefield...@ep You can legally use your home license in conjunction with the respectively issued IDP for a period of 90 days in Thailand. If your stay is longer than 90 days you must obtain a Thai driving license. This is not for the police IMO but rather more importantly insurance purposes. If you have an accident on a home license with IDP and you have been in the country for over 90 days I wouldn't risk the insurance company finding out. They will find every reason not to pay, not having the correct legal licence is one of them! Getting an IDP issued in your home country will help with the transfer to the Thai license. Remember they only transfer/issue what you have qualified for in your home country. If you do not have the correct motorbike license from home, you will have to make a full proper license for motorbikes here in Thailand. Not that Thailand is the most ideal place to learn to ride for the first time but that's another story. In Thailand car and motorbike licenses are issued separately, meaning you will have a card for each. Please be aware that there are two conventions of IDP, 1946 convention issued for a period of one year, 1968 convention issued for a period of 3 years. Thailand previously only accepted the 1946 convention but has added the 1968 convention a few years ago. Thailand accepts both conventions. Again if you do not have a motorbike qualification this will be clearly evident on the IDPs.

Everything explained very well, Daz. Unfortunately, I can't avoid the impression that the Thai authorities are making it as difficult as possible for emigrants to settle in their country. I don't understand the purpose behind it. I love Thailand but these complicated and bureaucratic rules have so far prevented me from getting an O visa. I just don't feel welcome, the decided taxation from 2024 on is another problem.

That is only done with the visa, not on it's own

100% not worth the chew for a vehicle license renewal. I'll have an agent sort renewals or just use Bolt and buses forever.
