We needed 7 players to beat it with a 30 second handicap, though some of them were newbies.

Elite Raids lol. Niantic nerfed this “event” massively. Kyogre and Groudon had raid days and Rayquaza? Nah. The chances of being able to do this is low for many

This is only for people who are able to do elite raids so for people like me who don't do elite raids won't be able to complete the research

Would have loved to grind this for xl candy. Met up with my local community, we were only possible to do three as that’s all was available all day. If only it was an actual raid day, my local community could have played all day

Should’ve sniped EX gyms in your local area and found a better spot, I had 20+ in my area total for all 4 time slots

I did about 20 raids in new york and still no shiny. then I logged my accounts in with different phones and I got 5 shiny rayquazas with the remaining 30 raids. after logging the accounts in to new devices, my "luck" changed. the only thing about changing devices suddenly is you risk getting 7 day, 30 day, perma banned so I wouldnt be surprised if some of these accounts get banned soon.

I can’t get anyone local to raid with me. I’ve tried Facebook group and raid group. Rural play is no good for events like this. 😢

Campfire, join a local group that’s active, and if you don’t have one in your whole city/town then make one. It’s saved me LOTS of stress during events with planning at the forefront like this one.

@@no_u_420 I tried Campfire. The raid group is usually active…but most people in it raid remotely. I didn’t have time to drive to another town and try to find people, nor did I want to spend the energy. There just aren’t people in my tiny town who want to play much.

I live in a fairly decent sized town. Having said that we get 8 mega Rayquaza raids all day. 1 at noon, 2 at 1, 3 at 5, and 2 at 6. That’s supposed to be a “Raid Day.” Kinda a joke. Not spending over 4hrs today running around to do 8 raids

You need to be in a better area with more “EX raid” gyms. 99% of the people moaning about elite raids are just settling for what they can find in the immediate vicinity.

My raid starts at 600pm so once again can't even do the raid. since I have work. Not sure why they did this to Mega Rayquaza, since Mega Latias and Latios are in normal raids.

How do you do this if you don’t have the top counters or what if you do have one of the top counters but you can’t power it up

Was Mega Rayquaza today (Saturday)? The only raids I saw spawning in my area were shadow Raikou and at least one Ho-Oh raid. Unless they happened while I was at work 🤷🏻‍♂️

Glad I just able to mega them earlier than this morning but unable to obtain 2nd (and 3rd) meteorite. Good night!

We tried taking him down with 3 ice setups and 2 fairy setups so 5 trainers total and we didn't even get anywhere close to defeating him... worst event so far and based on the reactions one or two of those trainers could stay away from GO indefinitely, because we have a very small community and can't get 15-20 people to get this done. Also for the meteorite it would have been much better to just participate in a elite raid you even if you don't finish is, you could get your mega later on. Now wee just got nothing but wasted battle passes.

@@bigmel26 sure aren't, that's why it would have been much better to provide the meteorite to all, casuals and elites. GO is a heavy grind game and so one would need to find ways to provide to all levels of players. They could have added normal ray raids with much less mega energies, but giving lower level players the option to acquire him as well. Well, it's a lot of what if, so let's keep it there. Maybe next time.

Well, in a group of 20 people doing 3 raids (=60), not one shiny…😅 why am I not surprised.

No....the timed research is there in addition. The meteorite is only visible if you check a rayquaza. I couldn't find it either originally

I have to shout out campfire. I didn't think I would be able to get an elite raid done. All I wanted was to claim my two meteorites. I hoped on campfire and found a 5pm meetup of 6 people about 30 minutes from my house. It came in clutch

Not a raid day------ir was changed to elite raids like 3 weeks ago in the june line up info- elite eggs were a thing before raids days.............only for locals, shorter times.we all wish these never come back

You need to evolve your own rayquaza first, but yes you can assuming you’ve done so.

Had about 300 people walking around my local park (Southern California) so getting 20 trainers and lots of gyms wasn't the issue. 5 of 6 ran with excellents and that's when I called it quits. I'm not wasting raid passes if they nerfed the catch rate like that. Previously caught 18/19 shadow Mewtwo. There's no way small towns would be able to participate in this event given how strong the raid was and rarity of eligible gyms. Poor decision on Niantic's part.

My team of 20+ adult people ran up to a raid on a playground. Kids were confused xD

I got a hundo. Still can’t mega evolve it though. No energy.

None of the raids were nowhere near my area. The free meteorite isn’t free when it’s locked behind tasks. One of them being completing an elite raid. 2024 is the year of the dragon and this event was extremely crappy. All my friends only do raids with me remotely so this really sucked.

Im so excited we need more elite raid day. Nothing brings a community together in person outside of FESTs. 100 people already signed up to my meetup. Raid train going hard

Dude I had a train of well over 100 on foot, we went and mashed out 11 raids between 12-2 and got well over 2k mega energy, definitely a goated event, hope you had a good event!

Im in a busy holiday resort in Tenerife 2 spawns here an me and 3 randoms try it an its impossible. Absolute joke of an event

Shouldn't be hard to get 3-4 people together. I already have my hundo mega Ray but there's still the chance for the elusive shundo. I'll still participate for that small chance and more over to help others locally. These EX raids bring back mem's of the first time Ray ever came out and we were all runnin from gym to gym with our rag tag group of rando's. My boy Mamo was a strait up dragon killer then and still is today, that's why I have so many of em lol.

This was very poorly planned and implemented as another ploy of Niantic's to try to do the in person raids. Not always guaranteed to even get any Elite Raids near you. This should have been a raid day of 3-6 hours with Rayquaza everywhere. Making it only in person hurt the player base when they could have allowed it to be remotable but simply give boosts or better rewards to those able to do it in person: shiny boost, iv boost, exclusive items, etc. Plus the timed research hurts those who can't go out or don't find any Elite Raids. Should just be able to win any raid then the player could have a meteorite for future traded/raided rayquaza.

Don't even need to bother with it.. already have a shundo lvl 50 with dragon ascent and mega evolved and also have 3 other shiny rayquaza.. so I don't need to even bother with this stupid event. Also it's a bad thunderstorm where I am and I ain't. Going out in it and on campfire the group im happy in only had 2 people going which made to believe no one it's going to be there and I'm going to waste my time.

HORRIBLE EVENT I PLAYED IN NYC WHILE DRIVING AROUND AND ONLY WAS ABLE TO DO 8 RAIDS THE SPAWNS FOR THIS MEGA WERE HORRIBLE 😤😠😡🤬

Event was horrible… had to rush to every raid and drive around town. what a joke, could only get a couple down each hour. The need to make this up with an actual raid day

This entire event is a joke! The “elite” eggs have showed up as mega eggs!! No way to tell them apart from regular mega eggs except the time 😢 Plus why not just give us the free research
