Karniss just can't catch a break: Got drider'd for something despite being a white drow (and therefore very valuable), Lost his mind due to getting drider'd, Got pressed into service by the Absolute, And then got turned into an undead pet by this mofo.

@@miscellaneous7777 The word Drider comes from the words Drow and Spider. Basically, Lolth is one bitch of a petty goddess, apparently much worse than Shar and turns Drow into half Spiders if they displease her too much. Or she feels like it.

I love everyone just finding out how broken control undead is. On my first playthrough, I was checking EVERY NPC I ran into to see if they were undead. FYI you can use this to control most of the Thorm family as well as the beggars in Baldur's Gate.

I used it on the undead over by withers and it was insanely good. Just kept casting silence on enemy casters allowing my almost entirely martial party to just eliminate any squish unbuffed characters lol. Even Auntie Ethel had no chance despite my under leveled party's paladin taking the hag eye lol. He also stayed turned after a long rest and came to camp with me which might be a bug lol.

There’s a mod where you can recruit him. Obviously he doesn’t have dialogue like other companions, but it’s nice if you don’t want to kill him 😊

Notably, this all does still work if you go through the grymforge. You just need to choose the correct dialogue options when you are confronting him during the Harper ambush

If your a drow with a spider lyre (you can get one from minthara) with profiency in musical instruments i don't believe you need any persuasion checks

That also works if you aren't a drow but you cast disguise self on yourself choosing the drow option to look like a drow. Use the spider lyre from minthara and with profiency in musical instruments you also don't need any persuiason checks

@ProfessorCLion you have to be a drow (as a race or disguise), a spider lyre and musical instrument profiency and take the non hostile dialogue with the goblins and it should work. So you may have made the wrong dialogue option

You can command drop him to get the lantern, too. Whatever way you use to get the monlantern works, because he'll always wind up with the shadow curse afterwards.

When I got to Act 2 for the first time and saw Kar'niss, I immediately fell in love with the mad goober. I don't want to hurt the precious spider boi.

Where is the romance option for HIM, Larian, C'MON!!! 😂😂😂

You can have the same interaction going through Grymforge instead - stop at Last Light Inn and if you ally with the people there, you can join them on an ambush mission for this drider caravan. If you have the conversation with Kar'niss as a bard you'll get some class specific dialog that allows you to convince them to leave the lantern. The rest is the same.

I just found out that you can also use control undead at a certain trader that turns undead when a certain *important person* dies. Then you can just sneak and loot their whole inventory (best if you already sold your stuff to her and just steal it back). works just as stealing back your gold from Withers because the trader does absolutely nothin when you get caught stealing. She only has to survive the fight as an undead

Did the same kind of thing with the spider matrriach that i've thunderwaved in the pit. Used Glut spore to revive her by the 2 minotaurs; the beholder and the bullette were a breeze

A GREAT alternative is a spectator from iron flask. Has no loot, so keeping it "alive" would be of no use, but to have him as a pet is MAD flex for oathbreaker paladin. Plus, it's also pretty damn strong too - can fly, and inflict fear with his eye beams Though spider person is also a pretty epic optoon

the scene where you convince him to leave the lantern to you and then he urges his companions to go into the darkness without it made me feel like the worst villain in the game

The thought of being lvl 7 by the time you meet Kar'niss is interesting. Makes me curious to know the max level you can be leaving Act 1 having done everything. Would you need to do some of the encounters around Kar'niss before reaching lvl 7? (Shambling Mound, He Who Waits, Last Light Inn Raid, raven ambush, blight ambush, etc)

You can definitely reach level 7 if you clear most content NORMALLY but thoroughly in act 1. It helps greatly if you killed things back on the Mindflayer ship before the crash, particularly the demons, as they're several hundred exp together. You can however also murderhobo your way into more exp in act 1 if you so choose... though I think the resulting lack of some quests would hurt your exp gains later. Also, note that the mountain pass and underdark are both still in act 1, and are not mutually exclusive. Side note: I believe most of the bugs are gone, but there used to be several ways to earn more exp than intended. One of the biggest ones was the ability to knock everything unconscious, I forget if you had to save and reload, or go to sleep? But after that, you could then kill the unconscious person for exp again. Effectively giving you around 2x exp (not accounting quest clear or inspiration exp).

You can just barely scrape by to level 7 before Act 2/meeting Kar'niss provided you do basically all of the content in the mountain pass and the underdark. Plus you don't have to immediately meet Kar'niss, you can find your own way through the Shadow-Cursed Lands and even avoid taking the caravan ambush quest to do some other side missions before meeting him

We just dissarmed him and my summons threw the lantern toward us

If you lose him on long rest, does that mean there's no way to bring him to Act 3?

I think so, every video about this idea, that is palladin getting virtually any npc you might want as a follower, since the course can reanimate any dead body, even probably Rafael if you got him down there... There is no way to reanimate them later

Perfect time for me to see this video. I’m a level 6 oathbreaker. Just got to the grymforge, then I’m on my way to act 2 Edit: I did this and it was awesome until I wasted all my potions on the githyanki patrol. I reloaded to see if I could do a better job and that spider mfer was hostile towards me but still said I was controlling him

I just sided with the random ppl, got Karniss to come with us, then played both sides when we got ambushed using a Druid with the spell that turned corpses into ghouls. From there I took karniss’ lantern

You can still find him if you went through the under dark

Act 2 is just the oath breakers pet shop

In my first playthrough he gave me the lantern and left. His party died, but he didn't, so there was no controlling him. He did show up at Moonrise Towers though. Dude, the things that this game does in the background is just nuts. I thought you had to kill him as the player, I had no clue he could become an undead. Darn dice rolls. I wonder if in some plauthrough, by some random in Bolivia, that, idk, Rolan somehow wins his fight without the party and ends up just hanging out, standing in place next to dead baddies when the person finds him? Seriously, I bet this has happened to at least a few people. Now if they'd just release a patch that allows advancement to level 20, a boatload of high level spells and class abilities...I'm at 205 hours at max level in my 2nd playthrough (311 total this run) and I've gotta say, not being able to advance for 200+ hours is a bit frustrating. And no, the multi-class to level 20 isn't the same, nor does it do much good once you are already level 12. I'd have to respec everyone which is a pain in the tuckus.

Did this on my latest playthrough wondering if I could, man regularly dropped 70 damage hits but I hit a glitch in moonrise where he turned hostile again despite still being registered as “controlled” so it wouldn’t let me refresh the spell

My Lolth sworn drow paladin did not like him so he killed him together with goblins who were trying to convince us to stop arguing about his look. ( Followed the drow dialog where my tav calls him abomination). Well the goblins died too.

Can you keep doing that until the endgame? If so, I gotta do another run as an oath breaker paladin...

If im not mistaken, you get advantage on persuion checks when talking to Kar'niss if you are Lolth sworn Drow. I'm not sure if that works with disguise self because the female drow option a seldarine drow i don't know about the others though. I need to double check. Or can someone confirm?

I don't think so. Necromancers at level 14 can attempt to command any undead, but that's not implemented of course.

Can people stop acting like this dude is a legit companion. He follows you around for like MAYBE 20 minutes. There are summons 10x stronger
