How To Fully Clean Bosch Ductless Dryer Including Sump Pump Pit

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

It's extremely important to clean the dryer fully including the sump pump pit. I found this out after having to replace the dryer sump pump after 6 months of use. In the video I show the entire cleaning process and how to access the sump pump pit.

Can't thank you enough for posting this video (especially the part about finding and cleaning the sump pump area). I was still getting a "DR" message on the display board even after cleaning the two pull-out sections. Once I thoroughly cleaned the sump pump area, light is gone and all is well! You saved me a service call for sure! I'll pay it forward! You Rock Rob!

@@gds2006 Good Day. Not sure if you found a way to open the plastic door to the sump pump area yet, but take a look at the replies and there are a number of ways other authors have suggested to remove it. For me, I start by shining a light in the area so I can see better, then pull the left tab on the door towards me while I'm sliding a small eyeglass screwdriver into the seam. Once I have that side lifted (don't remove it), I slide my hand to the right tab and pull it towards me. Usually opens up completely at that point. Putting it back is just lining up the back tabs and letting it fall into place. Hope this helps, Jamie

@@gds2006 I had this problem too. It took several cleanings before I fixed the problem. The dryer would stop, make a strange beep sound letting you know there was a problem. I’d get the full sump area empty of water, and continue on before it was full again. After doing this a few times, and letting the area completely dry, for like a week, it was fixed.

This is our dryer since we bought a home last fall. Cleaning the heat exchanger and area behind it monthly has maintained it for us. Then it wouldn't finish a dry cycle, beeping after about 6 minutes. We could always reset it but it was frustrating. Taking the sump pump plate off and cleaning it out with a wet vac did the trick, just like this video shows. We have new sensors ordered but the clogged sump pump was the issue! The Bosch manual we have doesn't do a good job of explaining how to take sump pump plate off to clean. Hopefully they added that to newer models! Thanks for the video!

Rob, Thank you for sharing your knowledge on the "DR indicator" troubleshooting process, as the Manual makes no reference to the Sump pump cleaning for the Bosch Dryer. This is how Contractors make money, via Bosch....sad they don't include this portion in the maual. THANKS FOR SHARING...I'll surley pass it on to those in need.

Thank you so much for this easy-to-follow tutorial! Like others, I didn't know the sump pump existed back there (or needed cleaning) and after many years of use, ours really needed a good clean. It wasn't an easy reach as it's floor based, but I now have a much better working, and smelling, dryer!

Your video was good for not only removing components - but figuring out how they go back. I had so much dog hair / lint in the back compartment, which is a sealed unit, that when I spray washed it outside I could not get all the soggy clumps out. Tried my tweezers, not long enough and then got a pair of wooden take-out chopsticks, ideal!! Thank you Mr. Rob.

I just did this yesterday 11/10/23! The DR code is gone after running a non-existing load (two hand towels). I hand scooped what I could, before using a small 1Gal vacuum. Even then, the sensor knocked the time down to where it kicks the pump on (2 min) and No more code. Waiting on another full load of laundry to see if it really works!

Great video. I appreciate that you showed how to open the flaps without breaking them :) My dryer, same series as the one in this video, displays DR after about 5 mins. I checked that the hose wasn't clogged or impeded at the drain end, so I imagine the problem must be in the dryer end or a software issue. Although I clean the filter and heat exchanger regularly, and they never got nearly as gross as these, I can see how the sump area could get filled with crap.

Thank you very much. I have that dryer for 5 years and my wife made fun of me all the time because it didn't dry properly. I always removed all the stuff from that trap thing and once awhile I cleaned out that waffle thing in the bottom draw. Just weeks ago I realized that there was a lint build up at the very end of that channel. I removed those too. But now I solved the real problem which was the stuff in the sump pump area. Since this is not described in the manual that is impossible to find. Less than 10 minutes of a job with two little screw drivers and a sponge. Thank you again.

After less than a year's use, the DR light would come on after 5 minutes and there was just nothing to be done. I've always maintained my machine daily and monthly per the use and care manual. Now that I know to clean the back part, which really isn't as bad as your video suggests, I know I can maintain the machine properly. In my case the problem was not in the sump pump only. There was a thick layer of lint on the "back" wall of the cavity. I don't have a wet vac, so I just used a big sponge and a cloth; obviously not as quick as the wet vac, but not a game stopper. Thank you again!

I looked for a sump pump and no clue where it was. Drove me nuts. Unfortunately I haven't yet placed the dryer on the washing machine despite having the mount for it. Let me tell you, that was an adventure - had to lift the dryer onto a 2 x 6 piece of wood so reaching inside while lying on the floor was easier. I live in the boonies with not a lot of neighbours to lift it up for me. At 78 this old lady managed the cleaning myself and thanks to your video I have my dryer back. They tell you to clean the filter but didn't say much about the sump pump in the sparse manual..

Thank you! My Bosch came up with the F:03 error too. I've been cleaning everything, but the sump pump stuff that I didn't know needed servicing. I pulled out a whole mess of slimy dog fur and lint. I've seen these machines on the street of NYC and I wonder how many of them get tossed out because people don't know how to do basic maintenance!

Best youtube video on clearing the F09 Error Code. Although wife keeps filters clean on a regular basis, after 5 years the EC F09 appeared requiring cleaning the sump pit of all accumulated lint which gets past the filters. Only thing he left out was to first ensure condensation hose is clear by blowing drain end. After removing lint build up in the sump pit, I also added a mixture of 10% bleach and water in the sump pit, let sit 10 minutes, slosh it a little to ensure the float is free, vacuumed it well. Voila ... Done and saved probably$250+ service call and a week-10 day wait . East peezy.

Great dryer and great video! I got a bit lazy cleaning mine. I do the usual filter cleaning but neglected the lint screen and sump. I scrubbed my lint screen with mild dish soap and a plastic bristle brush rinsed thoroughly and dried it. For the sump I am sans shop vac so I opened it and dug it out with my hand. Then dried it out with paper towel to get as much goo out as possible. I then poured some hot water into the sump with a bottle and agitated it with my hand and scrubbed around with my fingers. I turned on the dryer after putting all the part back together and holy crap the stuff that pumped out! I did this 3 more times until all the discharge water came out clean. Works great now! Two dogs, a cat, and a wife...sure fills the lint trap fast!!

@@robsgaragewoodworkin Hope all is well! Its been a year since my last comment and since my last deep clean. My dryer kept showing the clogged condenser error. So I remembered this video and it all came back to me...this time there was lots of scum in the sump so I scrubbed it out with vinegar and water and kept flushing it until the water was sort of clean. Unfortunately, my laziness caused the DR error as the pump was still full of lint and stuff. So I flushed it until the water came out clear and so far so good. I'll also mention, when you get the DR error you can blow sharply into the end of the drain hose to dislodge any lint add some water to the sump and flush out the system. I don't recommend putting your mouth on the hose though, make a fist around the hose and blow against your hopefully cleaner hand :)

Didn’t know about the sump pit. Awesome. Just cleaned my Bosch dryer. My sump pit it all the way to back. Stuck my arm in up to my shoulder and removed a large softball sized glob of mushy lint. Huge! If I hadn’t got this out, wouldn’t have made a change in drying. My sump pit is just open, but thanks to you I had courage to try. Turned out to be easy, but hard, my dryer isn’t stacked on lift or washer. Lots of crawling. ❤️

Great video, Ron. Access through the plastic sump cover is ok, but will not allow thorough cleaning of the pump impeller and/or discharge orifice. If Bosch can't improve on the design to keep lint out of the sump and pump, the least they could do is put a small 6"x12" panel on the rear left side, held in place by one screw to allow full access to the pump and sump assembly. Current design requires full removal of top and left side covers, partial removal of front control panel, 10+ screws and assorted plastic tabs/force fits, to access pump. Despite the extra work was glad I accessed the pump assembly. My sump and pump were fully filled with lint/gel. I could clearly see what I was cleaning, was able to fully clean the impeller. Removal of the left side panel with various plastic force fits and screws into plastic attachments seems to me to be something that will not hold up over multiple removals. Was the longest part of the process.

I wish they put the whole assembly at the back of the dryer with an access hatch so you could wipe down the back where it builds up a thick layer of lint and properly clean out the sump pit and also have access to replace the pump if necessary. Thanks for your comment! Cheers! Rob

A good tip regarding the right-angle screwdriver used to get into the cover of the sump chamber. I have the BOSCH 300 and am really pissed that the company has NOTHING in the owner's manual regarding this Critical Cleaning Step. I am surprised that you apparently waited so long to clean both your air filter on the drum and the two removable sections of the condenser/heat exchanger unit. This is EASY to do so I basically clean the air filter on the drum before EVERY use and clean the two removable sections weekly. Thanks again, great video.

Three cheers for Canadian Rob! Moved into a place last year that had a Bosch 500 ventless dryer and have been dealing with the "DR" code issue ever since. Many times I immaculately cleaned the lint filter, 2 sensors, and the condenser area. Still I would get the blasted BEEP-BEEP-BEEP followed by the "DR" code. The Bosch user manual only says to call a repairman for DR Codes. It never talks about the sump pump pit area needing to be cleaned. Along comes Rob and his terrific U-Tube. Did exactly what you instructed in cleaning out the pit (using my hands and rags vs. a shop-vac) and WOW! The area was absolutely filled with huge clumps of junk. The dryer now runs like brand new! Amazing!!! I had begun contemplating a service call and potentially buying new appliances for $3K.....you saved me a lot of money Rob. You're the best!!!!!!

To get the back cover off alternatively is to gently jam a screw driver on the left side to put some torque on the cover and release it one at a time with your fingers. When you release the left clip the cover will pop half up and you can move your screwdriver over a bit and pop the right clip and it will come out. Be careful replacing the cover to get the back retainers aligned. A good cleaning allows you to see the retainers. If you miss the cover will still go in but will not be flush.
