Jannnnnn!!! The inside point on my heart applique design is killing me! The point is very deep. I can't get past those frays without turning that "V" in to a "U". I'm a rank beginner but for my initiation into a quilt guild I have 14 needle turn applique hearts to do for an entirely hand pieced and hand quilted quilt. The problem is I don't have enough seam allowance in the point to avoid the frays(they are really really short...but if I don't go in deep enough the "V" is not sharp enough. I'm gonna keep on trying...hopefully you'll see this before my 14 hearts are done.

I just did a tutorial that focused more on hearts. I don't know if you saw it or not: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nKWDxJl8dqbIl9I.html
Please keep making videos! I love the way you teach. I can't wait to see all of your techniques! Please have the cameraman get right over the top of the pattern when you are cutting into the point on a shape(eg. into the "v" on the heart shape). It is difficult to see what you mean when he is at an angle.

We'll try to improve the angles in the future. Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you're liking the videos.

do I have to see the heart around or the glue of the freezer is enough?
Great explanation of appliqués! I only wish more hand been explained about attaching the cutout to the backing. I can follow the instructions in this video but I get a little lost when it comes to arching the cut out to the fabric behind it. =_=*
Good morning Ms. Jan, I pray that all is well with you and your family, but did you make that sand paper board. Just asking that is a good idea to keep your fabric still.
Holaaa alguien sabe de jan??? Por favor muy lindos los proyectos la encontré ayer y hermosos los videos
Hi Jan, I'm so glad I bumped into your website, and watched your 'Needle turn applique'; but I have a question. Can I do 'Needle turn applique' WITHOUT the freezer paper? Is it possible? or will it not work? Please help. Thanks HEAPS for all your techniques. Keep up the good work. God Bless.

+Jebby Ragavan The freezer paper just makes the pattern. You can use anything. I like the freezer paper because it adheres to the fabric and doesn't move so it's easier to trace around.
Where do I get the pattern from ,please
What are the chances that I can use appliqué to made a Memory Quilt using baby clothes made out of stretchy and non-cotton fabrics? Possible?
How come you put the freezer paper on the right side of fabric, I thought it would have to go on the wrong side. So it would stick to the background ?
Hi Jan, I enjoyed your tutorial, but I have a question. I fail to see why the freezer paper was placed on top of the brownish fabric and not under it. Now the freezer paper wax is “on top” of it and it doesn’t help anything that you did. Might be a dumb question but I thought the paper had to go on the “wrong’ side of the fabric? Please enlighten me, and thank you.
Jan, thank you very much for sharing ! Could you tell if heat and bond is the same to freezing paper? If not, what is the difference? I just started to learn quilting. Thank you for your time!

+from Yuliana I'm sorry - I really don't know because I've never used heat and bond.
Can I ask you a question Jan? Could you please tell me how you would applique teeny tiny pieces of applique, say one eighth of an inch wide by one inch long, as I have in a pattern? I am stuck and have tried all sorts of ways. Thank you, Sue
How do you adhere your applique pieces to the background fabric?
Where can you purchase the line pencils
Hi! I'm creating an art project with archival paper, thin tissue, in 30 "pages", & I really want to sew them together- Do you have any suggestions for either backing material, hem tape, the full roll adhesive, or maybe even this wax paper (size is 8-1/2" X 11")? I'd love to back these for strength & durability for travel. Also, for transport I believe rolling will be the way. If you have any suggestions, I'd just LOVE your advice. You seem incredibly knowledgable with fabric; do you have any paper sewing ideas for me. I have extra that I can "practice with" as well. (FYI) Thank you for your time & thoughtfully consideration, as well as public ally sharing your knowledge. A community Wise Woman.
Is it wise to launder the fabric beforehand in order to make sure it does not shrink, as cotton will so often do?

Always a good idea to wash your fabric first!
So what happens to raw edge of heart it looks unfinished
Jan, I just found you today and am subscribing. Your designs are creative and fun, and you make me believe I can do this. I'm excited to try this. I have one question. On the background wall in "Freezer Paper Appliqué" there is a mini quilt that looks like a weeping willow tree - or maybe a tree of life? Do you have a pattern for that? I've been searching, but can't find it.

I meant to say sew on the below comment.
Being in South Africa, I don't know what freezer paper is. Is it the same as iron-on vilene?

Why would you put the fabric wright side up if you put it right side down you can leave the freezer paper on and iron the allowance under ready to hand sew

I had the same question, it should be placed on the wrong side of fabric so it can adhere to it to turn your quarter inch all around. Am I missing something?
I just wonder why using freezer paper.
Nice but you didn't show how to sew it
There are so many techniques for applique it was difficult to find the best one for my skill level (I sew Victorian historical dress, sew I'm competent lol!) But by jumping straight into applique technique, I kind of missed the quintessential beginning how to steps! Thank you so much for this straight forward, easy to understand tutorial! Cheers Ps - I decided to use Ann Holmes technique because it's like painting with fabric and that really appeals to me!
