How To Frame Corner Window Without Corner Post - Home Building
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
www.homebuildingandrepairs.com... Click on this link for more helpful videos on home framing, building repairs and remodeling. This video will provide you with an illustrated view about building or framing a corner window without a corner post for wood home construction. There are other ways to build a corner window without a post and I will probably make a few videos about them in the future.

Thank you so much! I am designing a postless corner window for my first time and this is exactly what I needed to know for my construction details!!

You're welcome and thanks for taking the time to let us know how much the video helped.
Fantastic video, thank you for taking the time to explain even the "obvious" stuff like double top-plate overlap. As a novice I really appreciate it

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for letting me know it helped.
Thank you for sharing. Trying to figure how to do this type of corner window and sure enough, you provided the solution. Keep up the good work.

I needed this, thanks!
This is great, thank you. Quick question: Is it possible to have a door opening towards the back end of the two thirds cantilever, or should that space be studs only?
Beautiful!!!!!!! 😍

Thank you! Cheers!
Brilliant. And I thought it would be complicated. 👍🏻

Hi there. I’m building a home where there is a large open to above area. I want to have wraparound windows at the back meeting the side. Is it possible to have this sort of concept if my open to above area is 20 feet heigh?

More than likely this won't be something I will be able to provide you with engineering advice on, but yes you can probably do it, even though this method right here might not be the best one for your building. I would contact a structural engineer for more information.
Great! Is this principle going to work with sandcrete block walls and reinforced concrete lintels?

Feel free to email me some more information about what you're trying to do. I can take a look at the information and then provide you with an opinion, but keep in mind I'm not an engineer and if you looking for engineering information, might want to contact one.
YES! Thank you, my brain couldn't make sense of this

I think you could have installed another load beam on the other side of the corner to make it even?
Inverted Hanger, brillant. Always have the problem on ends

Yes, they can make a big difference. Just have to watch your fingers sometimes when nailing them on.
Thank you for helpful material! But I have one question about length of span. You said to make 1/3 window length we need at least 2/3 back spans. Does it have any regulation code or any more information?? I don't think 2/3 of back span is enough...

Good question and this is a general construction method that will not work on every single project. The best advice I could give you, would be to contact an engineer.

For floor cantilevers (which is essentially what the window header is doing, cantilevering) you go back 4x your cantilevered distance so if it's a 3ft window, go back 12ft from the window. Engineer can tell you for sure what will work in your specific case bur generally the longer you go back for your cantilever, the better
why do you need the extra beam, why can’t you just run the studs to the floor beam above? Or is it just because you needed the extra beam to fit the height you wanted for the window? Structurally, could you just stud to the floor beam if you wanted a larger window?

It can, but most of the time it will drain from the home to a sewer or septic tank.
will this glass window corner critical in case of mild earthquakes?

That's a difficult question to answer, because it depends on how the corner window was built and the rest of the building. I would like to suggest that it wouldn't be a problem if you hired a structural engineer, but there have been plenty of buildings that were damaged during earthquakes that were designed by structural engineers.
Why would you not cantilever from the other side as well?

It would definitely provide additional support, but it won't always be necessary if the cantilevered beam provides you with all of the engineering specifications, for that particular load bearing situation.
couldnt find better explanation than you. good job. just to clarify, does this apply same to concrete construction?
Are you sure ???? This is two story with a roof. I don’t know. I think using to cantilever on both side would be safer.
