Ever since I first stumbled on a tutorial for menko a couple years ago, it has been my favorite & most useful thing to make with origami. That first tutorial was very difficult to follow towards the end and I always had trouble. Yours is very clear & made learning how do do it really easy -thank you!

Ha, Ha - I had so much fun.I am using my Menke for my friends that are pet owners, for cats/kitties I put in 'treats' -different than dry cat food. :) For the dogs, some of them are big and I bought some BEAUTIFUL 'Whimsy' paper, lovely glitter on various designs; turned out the 'paper' was thick CARD STOCK !! ha,ha ~ The first I made turned out bad; I got to thinking about the creases. I just finished a BIG one, gently creasing and it holds a Dog Treat Bone! Thank you

+Leyla Torres (OrigamiSpirit Videos) My second grader gave a presentation this morning. She chose to talk about origami. Afterwards, I handed her the little Menko. She opened it up to discover the little note congratulating her on a wonderful job. She just LIT UP with delight and surprise. That sweet moment was made possible only by your super clear instruction late last night. Perfect.

I really love this #origamienvelope design, would be awesome to give a money gift to my niece next time! Also it would be great for a discount coupon given as a gift and anything having to do with a paper gift or wishing card... The seeds idea I think is brilliant! I don't do much gardening so maybe I would put little flat chocolates in it...imagine if those sprouted! And any kind of small sweet that doesn't melt like jelly beans etc ^)^ Thanks so much for this wonderful #tutorial and #giftideas you presented :)

First off, it's a beautiful model, thank you Leyla for sharing it with us. Second of all, you could use the model as a container for a gift of money for (as an example) a birthday, or if using paper that is dual color (but split diagonally) it could hold a love note for Valentine's Day. Or with red/green to hold a gift for Christmas. Also, depending on the size of the central square it could be used to hold a CD or DVD if made with a large enough paper.

Quick Fact: The Menko was actually used in a Japanese game, where they would throw the Menko on the table in attempt to flip their opponents by a gust of wind. If they succeeded they would collect their opponents card. Whoever ended with the most cards won the game. Also, may I suggest using it as something like a coaster to set a cup on? I'm pretty sure you would just apply some laquer and viola! A coaster.

If you don't want the folds showing on the back, another trick is not folding the whole diagonal but just at the ends.
