How To Fly With Suppressors And Firearms - Everything You Need To Know

Traveling with guns and suppressors is simple and easy as long as you follow a few steps. Always follow local rules and regulations when it comes to transporting firearms or silencers. Most states treat silencers the same as firearms. Remember to keep a copy of your tax stamp with you.
If you're wondering how to fly with suppressors and firearms, they must be in a checked bag, in a locked hard, sided case, and declared to the airline.

I've flown coast to coast with firearms close to 100 times and never had an issue. I fly exclusively with Delta and they always seem to have well-trained ticket agents that are very helpful. Also, they allow you to keep magazines loaded with ammo which is nice. I've flown with suppressors a few times and the only airport I ever had issues with was Jacksonville, FL. I had boarded my flight and TSA came aboard and pulled me off the flight before we left the gate. I had a copy of my paperwork in the box with the suppressor and the TSA supervisor seemed to be upset that I had all my documents in order. No idea what he was looking for but once they looked at everything, Delta took care of me and even booked me in first class on a later flight (although it was not their fault at all). I would say just look for airlines that have firearm policies you like and stick with them. I have heard other companies are not nearly as friendly as Delta when it comes to firearms and flying.

Here is reality on the Form 20. I am a retired federal officer. In 29 years as a federal officer (not ATF) I have NEVER EVEN ONCE heard of or seen a federal prosecution solely for failure to file a Form 20. If you have an approved Form 1 or Form 4 you’re good. A Form 20 (while technically needed u see travel rules) is just not a big deal. Just isn’t. Also…local and state police do NOT HAVE ACCESS to the NFRTR. That means your Form 1 or Form 4 is what you show because if you don’t have that, no officer in the field can look it up. Even the dispatcher cannot look up access to the NFRTR.

@@SilencerShop Pro Tip: get out your phone and take a photo of your approved Form 4 or Form 1 and then email it to yourself. That way it’s always on your iCloud and your email. You’ll have access to it anywhere in the world!!!!! You can login on your computer to download it or your can show the officer on your phone. Take a color copy of your approved form to the FedEx Store and have them “shrink it”. That way you can also store a very small color copy of the form in your MagPul gun grip compartment and you can also stick a small color copy on your gun bag!!!!

It is crazy how there is no SOP with the TSA goons. A couple of years ago, I flew from DFW to Minneapolis with a declared handgun in my baggage. No issues at all leaving from DFW. Previously I had flown with no problems and they would do an "inspection" in the checked bag lane or have me move to the end away from normal spots where they would inspect it. That said, they are pretty gray on what the actual regulation states, so you may have to follow their instructions, like "give me the key", which is a violation, but you won't go anywhere, if you don't.
