As an ex- Emirates flight attendant I can tell you one thing. The upgrade will only be given for free to certain passengers if the flight is overbooked in economy. There is no such things as free upgrade if you ask the crew or just sit there. They have a seat map, data of all the passengers, all on their devices. Good luck though 😅

That’s true, only thing is I only got downgraded (twice). Meant to fly the game changer first class 777-300 from London STN-DXB-BKK (one way ticket) but they downgraded me to business class and said the seat was broken. But the truth when boarding, the guy waiting to board in front of me got 1A (mine) seat. And I turned to assigned into business class, but they should’ve guided me to my seat through the economy class entrance, so I won’t see that my original seat been taken, but they didn’t. I walked past my original seat to my seat at the front business cabin, so I told them that “if you going to lie, please do it all the way, don’t fool me while I know all”. Then they offering me return ticket between STN-DXB-BKK plus some mile, 30,000 I guess. And it happens to me again, same thing happened, twice. Was like Deja vu, same way to compromise. Maybe I can take it was, lucky? 😅 and after that I never be able to catch the game changer seat ever again, they always swap with a380 😢

Also, I've never had any upgrades from eco to business but, One time, i won 2 return economy tickets to Japan and i embraced it and decided to travel. The flight was 2hours to reach Singapore only to transit to another plane and the transit time is 50minutes only, and that connecting plane decided to leave without some of us and it wasn't our faults because our flight was delayed and arrived late. So, the airline collected us who got left behind, apologised, and gave us complimentary hotels to stay the night while waiting for the Next Day plane.

@@lavender8415 Hmmmm.... interesting but, as long as i could remember (before covid when i used to travel frequently), all eco seats were always full and the business stayed empty. Never in my life i got upgraded to business even when the seats were empty at front. But what i missed the most about flight regulation BeforeCovid was that, 20kg or 30kg luggage was Already included in the ticket price. Because since the end of 2022, they changed the regulation and we need to buy the luggage separately, and the luggage price is always 1:1 to the ticket pricing, so it's like buying 2 return tickets for one person.

never in my life i could afford a business class. One day i was heading home with Emirates. It was a 9 hours flight. I was very happy that i found a discounted fare 2 weeks prior. At the gate my name was called up, went straight to the desk only to find out i’ve been upgraded to business class. I guess it was just my day 😊

That was to show you that you can manifest when you don't put a blockage or resistance or lack or limitation mindset. You can have a day like that every day using the law of attraction. My American Airlines flight upgraded me to first class and I didn’t have to do anything like he said in the video, just was an AAdvantage member on my first flight with them :) (Saying this to show it can happen, I guess if there’s no one of a higher status than you on the flight… it was domestic though so basically like premium or smth)

Many airlines now send emails to customers when economy class is oversold. This is an offer to upgrade for a fixed amount or to put in a bid. Often, this offer is made at check in too. Frequent fliers are also encouraged to redeem their points. This way, the airline can maximize their revenue before handing out freebees to frequent fliers based on their fares and tiers. A well dressed customer is quite low in the pecking order. Trust me, there is not a lot that these airline staff have not come across already.

I’ve flown economy all my life. If I ever get an upgrade, cool. If not, i don’t really care. I just wanna reach my destination safely. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters to me.

But it makes a HUGE difference if your trip takes 30 (or more) hours. I fly a lot between Japan and Brazil, and there's no direct flight so I need to take 2 or 3 flights to get to my destination. For instance, in December I will fly to Brazil to visit my family and I will firstly take a 12 hours flight to Dubai, then wait some hours in the airport and then finally take a 15 hours flight to Rio. It's insane how I get exhausted in Economy seats.

I used to work for this airline and we hate it when people open their mouth asking for upgrades cuz everyone does it

@@nadpor68 Regarding Emirates, a fee for bullhead seats had been implemented around 2019. Personally, I wouldn't recommend bulkhead seats. Your TV is in the armrest, therefore you can't lift the armrest if the seat next to you is empty. Regarding legroom, you can stretch your legs to the end of the seat in front of you but on bulkhead seats, if you have a wall in front of you, you cannot. The legroom is only better when seated by an exit. Airlines have their own policy, there isn't one rule that fits all. Being well dressed and kind is definitely a plus. The best trick to get an advantage is to offer a box of chocolates to the cabincrew when boarding the aircraft. They might give you an empty row if the load is light and will usually drop by to say thank you and ask you if you need anything. You might even get to choose your meal first. However, it depends if what happens on the flight. If the crew are busy dealing with medical case it unruly passengers, they might not have the time to take care of you. So don't blame them if it doesn't happen. Flights are often eventful.

I work for an Airline. Having booked ancillaries without paying them will prevent doing the Check-in and Airport Agents contact us to cancel the unpaid request to be able to print the boarding card. All of those steps do not make sense to me tbh.

Emirates doesn't give complimentary upgrades for platinum either. If you're getting upgrades now it's because they are operational upgrades and you're at the top of the list after economy has been oversold.

It is a very transparent, clear and honest system. Nothing you do will influence it. (Years of platinum status here, plus multiple family members are pilots and cabin crew). -> if you just asked a random cabin crew member of an airliner they would have given you this exact answer.

It used to work when the check-in people had control over the seat allocation, now every check-in is just a bag-drop service.

Right, like they would give a no status person priority over one of their loyal Gold or higher - or whatever they call their levels - members. 30 years ago, perhaps?

Emirates doesn’t do free upgrades or free loyalty member upgrades so this definitely is fake

They do if economy is overbooked and business isn’t, whoever is the highest tier in economy will be upgraded first, at the gate. I was EK gold years ago and flying economy Jakarta to Dubai I was upgraded to business more times than I actually sat in economy on all the flights I took, as they always overbooked economy on that leg. So it can happen, but won’t happen to someone who isn’t platinum/gold already I highly doubt

Plot twist: None of this works 😅

Without doing anything whatsoever I have been invited to board business about 8 times over the past 6 yrs. Ii have no explanation for this. They have all been US to London flights on different airlines. Also some domestic. east coast to LA. I am minding my own business waiting to board economy and someone will approach and ask if I would like to be bumped up. I honestly think it’s just good luck. I do always dress very well to fly, probably more so than most around me but I’m not convinced that’s the reason. Perhaps my subconscious is willing it at this point. Lol.

Yeah….no This day & age (I’m 63) flights are packed. FF who have premium status always get the upgrade. oh by the way , when traveling….comfort is king. I agree, being nice and polite never hurts any chance for potential upgrade or perk like a free drink in coach.

I've taken eight flights this year. Six of them were completely booked. First class and business class were always booked up. You have a good idea if there's extra room on the plane.

Step 1 : work harder and earn more money Step 2 : book the business class seat

I doubt that very much, it’s not up to the crew to upgrade, there isn’t much extra food onboard, business vs economy food, it isn’t possible to make bulkhead requests via the phone and then there is the pre calculated weight balancing. But the signing up it true, if the flight is overbooked, and few or no other members are onboard, you get the upgrade, that happened to a friend of mine.

I'm flying a ton, have the highest status and got upgraded to Business for free once, because the plane was overbooked. A business ticket costs 5x the amount of Economy, they don't give that away if they don't have to unfortunately. You also can't trick them by just sitting in Business, because they have an iPad and check each Business guest in manually :D

It takes a miracle, to get an upgrade. Leaving Bali, was delayed by 8 hrs, do to G20 and the arrival of airforce one. This meant an aircraft full, of tiered angry passengers, arrived in Singapore at 05:00am. Singapore airlines refused to give anybody available business class’s seats on other air carriers, not even the business class passengers from our flight. They tried to force everybody to stay over night at nasty hotel and fly on 24 hrs later on available economy seats, which several of us refused, so eventually flew via London and got home with 12 hour delay not the 30 they were offering us. So yes, they rather pay for a cheap hotel and a nasty meal, then upgrade anybody.

Summarizing all the steps: buy yourself a first class or business ticket if you want to flight first/business class. Simple 😢

If you can’t afford, just be real!! 😂

Dress to impress. I miss the days when people took pride before going out.

Other than signing up for the loyalty programme and dressing well nothing else will help get a free upgrade. If you are not polite, basically rude chances of you getting bumped off becomes high. Emirates upgrade is based on the Ticket fare and higher tier Skywards membership nothing else unless you are extremely lucky

Only surefire way is to pay sir. You get what you pay for, as with most things in life!

THIS ACTUALLY WORKED! I got a business class upgrade. But when I woke up, I was still falling in line in the check in luggage.

I’ll say one thing, but this is very old (pre 9/11) advice. Get there late. Be the last to board, be very polite and low key. I was given first class seating on almost every flight after I was late one flying from Paris to Boston. It was a genuine Oopsie, and I apologized profusely, they sat me in a relatively empty first class and said they’d move me later. Whey later came the attendant said “you’ve been very calm and quiet, if you’d like to stay just keep being you”. I got all the goodies too! It was very nice. I booked first class a couple times after that, I never fly first domestically, that’s silly, I mostly went from NYC to the Midwest and these are short trips, but anything overseas, more than 6 hours I’d shoot for first. And I started noticing that friendliness, plain old common decency really made a difference. I stopped booking first and would not be LATE LATE, but the last to board and I’d ask how their day was, and it was almost 100% success with getting seated up front. Since 9/11 it’s really hard to get there late or just walk on 😂 However, I have gotten seated up front for being helpful with other flyers and so long as you don’t expect it even getting seated up front a few times is a major coup! And always always show extreme gratitude!! Also, lay low, don’t be obnoxious about it. Stick with your fave airline too, they give lots of perks. Delta is my favorite domestically, Singapore is just perfect (and I’ve always paid for first with them) and Emirates is a crapshoot. But, so long as you don’t fly a crap airline you’ll have a decent seat and great service regardless. And if you don’t want to pay for first business is still a very nice boost from coach.

I always dress up for flights. I've been upgraded twice on long-haul. Another nice move is to greet the flight attendants on entering the plane. They really appreciate being treated well. Thanking them on leaving is also a kindness.

If i'm flying long haul I usually get some tasty treats from the departure country (not the standard duty free crap - proper local goodies) and hand them to the cabin crew. Sometimes they'll hook me up with some of the swag from first class, extra drinks on takeoff, or sometimes nothing. Either way it feels good to show them some appreciation!

I got upgraded to Business FREE once on Oman Air, when there were empty seats, and while I was dressed up, it might have been random. One thing I do is book economy, then try to upgrade, a few weeks before my flight, I did this with Turkish airlines, and the difference was something around €100 to €150 euros only, 2 connecting flights, which was not bad. The earlier you do it, the cheaper it is.

As someone who flies a lot I can tell you that this only works if you have a huge amount of miles. If an airline has free upgrades available, they go to the most loyal customers. If you are new in the airline program, that means you've never spent money on them and there is no reason to upgrade you :O)

I was upgraded only once and I did none of this. I arrived to Abu Dhabi from JFK with 80 Indian students in economy. They were noisy and it was a mess. Could not get even an hour’s sleep. I usually pay for aisle seats so when I got to the gate counter, this lady cut my seat number and put in 9B. Conversation that followed “Why did you change that, I really need my aisle seat” “You’ve been bumped up” “No, I really can’t sit in the middle seat” “You’ve been upgraded to business class” “Ohhhh, thank you so much” 😮😮😮

I got upgraded the other day. Then everybody on the plane stood up and applauded me. The flight attendants then all wanted me to join their mile high club.

Sorry but you’re wrong - it’s an automated system that does upgrades. Please stop presenting false information.

Step 1 book economy seat, step 2 hold Ctrl, alt, and Fn at the same time while simultaneously touching backspace repeatedly, then reboot - business class. It worked for me and many other too and idiots will believe it

I got a free upgrade recently from premium economy to business when taking the EK flight, during the boarding process. No, did not ask for anything, i just felt strange that they change my boarding pass, then came to realise my seat had been changed, and i'm going to be sitting in the business class section. It seem like someone had cancelled or postpone the flight, that's why i get a free upgrade.

Sorry, this will rarely work. Maybe on some unpopular route with a half empty business class cabin. First off FF programs work by tiers and seniority. Software decides who gets the upgrade, usually days before a flight. Used to be miles now it’s SPEND mostly. And calling? That does nothing. Those people have little/no say. Maybe are in a call center in another country. Show up early; politely ask the person at check in, remind them you’re still interested. Yes, dressing well helps make a good impression.

Oh! You can actually ask for an upgrade. I was a check in staff for Qatar Airways and sometimes I used upgrade passengers when they requested for an upgrade but they have to be nice and polite also well dressed. But we can only upgrade passengers when economic class is overbooked, we upgrade gold and silver members first then well dressed passengers, sometimes I upgraded nice and well behaved passengers if I like them even though their dressing is okay. Actually this what all check in staffs do.

Reality: be a Platinum member like Sergi Galliano and you are offered upgrades when the flight it overbooked. There is no shortcut to this. When I was in consulting and flew every week this happened to me. Left consulting, now never upgraded even though I still fly about 6 times a year for work.

Works for me too, the day I showed up, I was wearing a kilt.

I did this and it worked.. the only issue I ran into was that when I finally woke up.

Used to work as a check in passenger officer. While I was checking in. One couple even told me that they are just married and asked if they can have free upgrade to business class and the answer is NO ! If you ever been told by someone that might work. Let me tell you it will never work, unless you have ton of mile as their membership with that airline. You might get offer to upgrade as airline might need some empty seats in economic class as they might have been overbooked. The higher rank will be received the offer first and go on. One thing this guy said correctly is, when the airline offer you free upgrade, your appearance is very important. You will have more potentiality to be upgraded when you dress more business type. Of course, no slipper and no tank top whatsoever.

Most important thing is to sign up to the airlines loyalty program You will never get upgraded if you don't. I've been upgraded 5 times on one leg of my long haul flight to Thailand from Ireland.

The best way is to get a cobranded credit card and then only using that card for all your purchases: Bills, Rent, Tuition Fees, a new home, a new car, supermarket,, etc. This is a guaranteed way to get free upgrades and tickets

Option 2: work harder to be rich

Or do what I did. Flight was cancelled so I waited something like 8 hours for the replacement flight, there was maybe 20 of us left at that point, so they seated us all in 1st... And paid for the hotel at the other end because we arrived so much later than scheduled. Nice hotel as well.

Always ask for a business class upgrade. Almost all US airlines will do this for free if your Active Duty.
