Thank you for this excellent instruction on how to install flashing . I used flashing around window and it wouldn’t stick , I had to use hard as nails to glue it . Wish I could get the same flashing you using here in London Also thank you for the other videos especially the door and edge trim . I’ve got a lot of work to do but at least I know now what I’m doing .🤗

My siding is already installed so I need to know how to door this. Hopefully the brick mould on the door will cover the flashing. Siding is step contoured so this will be a challenge to get the tape right. Much easier to do this on T-111 siding.

In this case I did not seeing as it was a concrete floor into a garage but I would and other cases in a pinch I make a caulking wall very very thoroughly few inches back from the front making sure that it's seals completely on the metal fins the bottom of the door. If I remember correctly I think I did a caulking wall on this one. I know it's not standard but it really does work!

Is there any difference in the way you apply the flashing or the type of flashing when installing an exterior door on a brick home?

Yeah. I'm not sure how to do it on a brick house. My first thought would be I would really focus on adhesion to The brick. It's got to be super clean with no little loose brick particles. I would probably do some research on what adheres to brick. One of the ways I always tell people is to try to shingle whenever possible. And think like a raindrop. They go down they go sideways. They stick to things and they can even be pushed uphill if they're inside a little crevice and there's pressure behind them. Hope that's helpful!

@@TheRegenerativeHome I wouldnt think you would stick the flashing to the brick at all - only the rough opening studs / door header. There's a (if i remember correctly) 1" gap between studs and the brick. Im 99% sure you'd apply stick on flashing just like you did in the video to the rough opening studs/header but i was wondering is there any additional steps you have to take when dealing with brick that you dont have with other siding. Is the expansion foam required by code to close gap space or is it optional?

Will stocco stick to that if we're working with a concrete building.?

I made a five-part video on how to install a door in an old house that is out of square. This particular section I cut out into its own video. Honestly it would have made more sense if it was connected to all the other videos.

Should have caulked those valleys first

I think to be the best builder the key is to always be getting better! You're never at the final best practice! There is no such thing as a final best practice!

Never flash the top of a door and interrupt the drain plain.
