Another aspect of paying bills to reflect on credit reports is understanding “payment due date” vs “statement closing date”

Who gave 3 companies so much power over peoples ability to get credit? I see my score fluctuate by 80 - 90 points monthly. I think it's due to utilization. I travel a lot, and when I have a huge CC bill, a month later, the score drops. Then I pay it off, and a month later, it jumps back up. I need to ask for more credit! 😁

Forgot about increasing my credit line in awhile, got boosted from 7,500 to 10,500. Thanks for reminding me!

I had a 816, but then i had a fraud case, and it dropped it 104 points when i closed the account. Such BS, i need to work on disputing the drop.

#6 is DEFINITELY a worthy mention. I did this with my mate & it helped immensely. Some call this piggy backing 👌

Your absolutely correct, you Don't need to let an authorized user to use the credit card , just let them piggy back and their score will climb.

I paid off a credit card and my score dropped 50 points. Granted it rebounded after s month or so, but still. Glad I wasn't trying to buy a house or some other major purchase requiring credit.

My parents put us as authorized users to build credit over the years. That's the only reasonable situation where that would be okay imo. Also, some credit cards with annual fees have lower tier cards without fees that they will allow you to downgrade to. So you can keep your credit, but lose the fee.

Yep. When AmEx pissed me off with my Blue Cash card, I told them to knock it down to the free (useless 1% card). When the new card got here, I never even bothered to activate it. It is kind funny how being an authorized user without the responsibility to pay the card actually builds credit. What is credit worthy about zero responsibility? And my parents did the same thing for me back when I was a ghost. Added me to their ancient AmEx account and had the card sent to their address. When 'my card' got there, they cut it in half. I never even put eyes on it. Had over 30 years of $60K credit history in one day. Over 700 beacon and never paid one dollar on that card.

The problem with trying to maximize credit score is that you lose out on high yield savings interest or other short term use of the free floater loan from credit card if you pay the balance before the statement cycle date. Sure, nice to have high credit score, but if you’re not applying for credit card or other loan, no need to prepay the credit card charges prior to the statement cycle date.

First its unfortunate some have such power over your credit...also i was going to trade my car in for another from the dealer ..i always use..i was denied at first because they ( the credit reporters) said i had no credit cards and they wanted very badly to get me into one of their credit cards..i did have a credit card for years and thats a load of b.s. ...i went back to the dealer and told them what i found out and they reconsidered thankfully. Thanks Honda.

Don't get it,120,000 dollars available credit between 21 accounts all good standing, one 10,000 loan paid off only 1000 dollars bedt and my oldest card is 15 years never late only use less than 10 percent of available credit individually. My fico score is 803

At least you're in the 800. I'm 779 and my report show I have perfect record. 3% utilization, no late, 20+ years credit, zero hard inquiries. I don't get it

So how many credit cards should one own? Also, I read somewhere that when paying off debt, the highest APR credit card should be paid off first, while paying minimum to the lower APR. But then I saw another recommend the opposite - pay the lowest APR balance first. Which is actually better? Thank you, new here.

When does the 7yrs count on debt? From last late payment or when the account started?

Get a debit card that builds credit, it cost money but it helped me out a lot

For me my credit score means nothing when it comes to getting a mortgage. Being self employed they go by my income which is kinda low (there is only so much you can do with 2 hands). Also my oldest account has been 10 to 11 years old and never increases, been that way for 6 to 8 years.

The trick is to have at least 3 credit cards open and use them sparingly and pay off. It will boost your credit score.

I'm so grateful for your illustrations on how to get good credit and keep it. I have a question for you. I know that closing a credit card is a bad hit, but what if you had a card for years and kept it paid off and hadn't used it for several months, just to have that company close it for non use?! This is great information!! One exception: Identity Theft. I had identity theft around 2018 (not sure exactly when got hacked) and I've been to court 4 times and numerous requests to credit bureau's to correct yet NOTHING fixed yet. Please provide advice how to fix??
