Five minutes after I received my headset I was complaining of how blurry it was probably because I’m used to the first generation headset but after watching your video I ran downstairs tried it out again, but I seated the band a lot lower and it work perfect man you are a lifeSaver

The importance of the eye tracking calibration being done properly cannot be overstated. Also for some reason it does "decalibrate" itself sometimes. I was confused because last night Horizon looked perfect, and now it seemed blurry. Then tried recalibrating again (even though technically the calibration _should_ be correct) and everything went to 4K glory.

  • @bury100

@@robertlawrence9000 It's _technically_ 4K, 2000 per eye, so 4000 total. But yeah, I know what you mean. It's just the nature of VR currently, for "real" 4K you would need to double the resolution, which would require the games to run at 8K.

@Robert Lawrence well, it is 4K. But in VR that means 2k. They could have clarified to manage people's expectations. But they kind of did. It explicitly stated 2K per eye in the trailer for it. It's small and hidden, but it is there. And anyone who bothered to look into the headset at all would have known.

@@bury100 It is 4K actually. How do you know what 4K is? You can calculate it as pixel density in a given space. If you do the calculations, it is 4K as it has 4 times the density of 1080p. But ofcourse being so close to the sisplay shows it lower.

  • @bury100

@@thesherlockhokage3046 Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but pretty sure it's the per eye resolution that counts, which is 2000-something. It's not like a TV where one eye is one half of the screen and the other the other half, it's combined to create the depth effect but effectively you are getting 2K resolution. With a TV if you close one eye, you still get 4K resolution but in VR if you close one eye, you get 2K. Personally I find the clarity, when properly calibrated, perfectly satisfactory (I would say similar to Oculus Quest 2 in terms of resolution, but vastly better thanks to true blacks and HDR - oh that HDR is glorious when properly implemented). Just saying that it's not technically full 4K

Great video! Just want to clarify for any new VR users... "extremely sharp" is very subjective. To someone well-versed in VR, extremely sharp means something much different than someone who has only gamed on 4K TVs. The TV is always gonna look better because it's so far away that you can't see pixels. In VR, the screens are super close to your eyes, so extremely sharp won't be crystal clear. However, it should still look amazing. It just takes time to find the sweet spot (It's my third day having it and every day it looks better because I'm getting better at finding the sweet spot + I'm getting used to playing VR again)

An excellent point, not sure why anyone whould expect the same visuals as the TV. I've been immersing myself in No Man's Sky. Oh my God!!! It's stunning. PSVR2 is my first forray into the world of VR (the last VR I played was back in the late 80's 😲) It's certainly not the same picture you get looking at the flat TV. But, you can't beat flying past a frigate, and looking at it out of the side window as you fly by; and I haven't even tried Call of the Mountain yet. Granted it's not perfect, but it's so very close, even if I only play NMS on it, it'll have been worth it, I love it 😀

Excellent Tutorial and guidance. People might misunderstand the wording - Crystal Clear, it is a gorgeous display but people need to know there is a softness to the visuals. I have been tempted to create a visual a timeline of visual perception. That is on one side of the scale you might have a image of you looking underwater (blurry) all the way up to a 4K Oled tv (Sharp), holding your phone a little too close to you face where it starts to blur might be closer to what we see in PSVR2. Besides all this as a new VR user, I highly recommend it. Looking at some of the content here on this video you get a sense of the softness of the display. Keep up the great content.

Nice tips! I’d also watch out for dynamic res in addition to lod. Some games will lower resolution when a lot is on screen, I think I saw this in Star Wars totg. Turning towards a wall or smaller area might make it bump back up to full res so you can see if it is the game. Might be good to use a game without dynamic res if you’re trying to figure out the headset at first, if we can get a running list of those games. Also, some games run at lower fps which can look blurry in motion.

I wish I seen this sooner but I figured it out the second day I had it I’m a vr vet lol and I never get any repercussions when playing long periods but on day one I couldn’t play longer than 2 hours because I had really really bad eye strain and a pounding headache and come to find out on day 2 I messed with it a little and the headset wasn’t in the sweet spot for me even though my eyes were in the blue rings during the ipd test and my eye tracking was set right. So I figured out for me personally having the back ring tight to the almost middle of the back of my head was a lot better because the bottom of my neck is more sensitive to pressure headaches and it also helped the headset be parallel with my eye instead of at an angle because bringing it all the way down my neck made the screen/lenses almost stick out at a angle ( like this “/“ to my face instead of “l” to my face) which had warped the image and moved the sweet spot of the lenses causing bad eye strain and a headache and many times a not very sharp image in horizon and almost making me feel cross eyed when I’d look at things to far or to close but anyway sorry for the paragraph just was on my mind cause I was really worried on day one when that happened but after I figured that out horizon is wayyy more fun and such a damn beautiful game I can’t wait to get home and play for another 5 hours!!! It’s a huge improvement over the VR1 which I got on day one. Which was still very good back in the day. I got the VR2 on pre order day. The issue I am having is with how uncomfortable it is on my forehead. The VR1 was fine. I have bought a head band from Amazon that I wear 😂, I’m no Boris Becker. Even with the head band it leaves heavy marks on my forehead. I did play for longer around hour and a half. It’s going to take a bit of time to dial it in. But the games are definitely an improvement. Specially with the controllers with the harp tic feedback. I bought the move controllers for VR1 which I payed a lot and used a few times. I believe that is a big step forward in VR gaming. But hopefully the Vr3 will be even better wireless, and better quality like 4k, 4k cinema. Let’s hope I’m still alive 😂 and have the money.

The thing is that this headband is truly designed to go lower, and when I tried to put it halfway on the back of the head as I used to with psvr, the headset becomes heavy on the forehead and starts sliding down regardless of the fact that it's locked into place.

I find that actually going into a game and adjusting it there is the best way to get the clearest image possible and then tightening it to stay at that position. The headset tends to sag on my head a little so I have to put in a bit higher and when it finally rests on my head it’s at the right eye level. Turning down the brightness level (to 70%)also helped. The image quality really is spectacular when you have it configured perfectly.

No issues for me. If anything turning down the colour a bit made it even better. Proper eye tracking calibration is a must. For each person who uses it. I had a few mates over to check it out and one of them thought it was horrible until he went through the eye tracking calibration. He said it was night and day difference. Some games are worse than others though for example. GT7 and RE8 are crispy and beautiful resolution wise. No man’s Sky , while an improvement on PSVR1, the PSVR2 version is still pretty muddy, especially looking mid to far into the horizon. Horizon and kayak are also really nice to when you’re in that sweet spot. I have to agree that it is quite small though, that just a fact.

Yup, i agree. A lot of people use terms like crystal clear, super sharp, etc etc. For me, I've learned to adjust the headset rather quick on day one and have noticed when I got the focus right, and it's easy to setup for me now. But I still don't think it's crystal clear, or super sharp, as I am regularly gaming on a 4k monitor. Horizon FW looks so much better than cotm, even in performance. Especially if you look at anything in the distance. The latter, is a really big problem so far in VR for me. No matter what game, Pavlov, horizon, NMS,.. everything that's in the distance, becomes super low res, super fast. Which, is not bad per se for a VR headset, it just really isn't crystal clear at all, if you're coming from a 4k screen, or 1440p either probably.

I'm thinking that VR is still a work in progress. This is my 1st VR gear and initially, I was a little let down. Call of the Mountain is the only game I've played that is true VR. I've tried the cinematic mode on other games and am not impressed. I'd much prefer to see the game on my 70" TV, because the clarity is unmatched. As for the VR games, call of the mountain is fun, and if you are just focusing on the story and wear you need to move to next, it's awesome, but if you stop and really look at the detail, it falls short. I couldn't honestly call the detail any better than 480p. On my headset at least.

I really want to know if there's a screen lottery when it comes to mura effect. I heard that different PSVR1 units had different mura patterns. My PSVR1 mura pattern is like a greenish digital noise over the picture noticable when the picture is low res or has washed out colors. It's completely gone when I'm playing something like Tetris Effect but is very present when I'm playing something like VR Worlds due to its low res and muted colors I guess. It would be great to find a way to somehow photograph the mura effect to compare it.

My problem is that on my headset is that the sweet spot is super small, like a pea inside of a golf ball. This makes it super clear in this “pea area” but outside of that it gets blurry. This means that if I look at an object straight ahead it is super clear until I move my head just a tiny tiny bit in any direction while still looking at the same object as before. Might be something wrong with how my face/eyes are constructed but I don’t think so. And oh, I’ve tried everything mentioned in the video and more, spent a lot of time trying to make the sweet spot bigger, but can’t. Love the headset, but want to try another one out to see if there is any difference. Great video anyways 🔥🔥🔥

Linus on his latest Wan show describes this test he did where the person watching the TV was guessing where Linus was looking cause of foveated rendering. But the test would be moot if Linus was moving his whole head in that direction. Maybe we have defective units?

I originally had issues until I realized that the back of the device with the dial needs to be sitting close to the bottom of the back of your head, then tightening somewhat so it's snug but not too snug. Once I did that BAM everything was clear. Documents in RE Village were super clear and readable and everything was nice and sharp.
