The Simplest OF All! Just refresh by deleting and recreating IconsChache.db file . Steps: Goto folder: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\ To see the hidden AppData folder, go to Organize -> Folder and Search Options -> View tab, and select Show hidden files, folders and drives, and uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended). Once inside the folder, delete IconCache.db. Create a new file named IconCache.db, and set it to Read Only attribute in Properties (if the file is not read only, the cache won’t be reset). Then restart the computer or restart expolrer fro taskmanager. Remove the Read Only attribute of IconCache.db file, and the icons cache will be refreshed.

good job thx for sharing & helping us. it worked for me but some just dont want to be fixed, they are not in the desktop and when I reload the page the real icon appears quicly before the white replace it :(

easier to close explorer in cmd as well with: "taskkill /f /im explorer.exe && DEL /F /S /Q /A %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\thumbcache_*.db && start explorer". This does all of that in one command (except for disk cleanup).

I looked at the comments and saw loads of people saying it isn't working. It worked for me so don't dislike the video just because it didn't work for you, you just are unfortunate that it didn't work for you. He put loads of effort into this video to help others.

With 7-zip loaded all zip file icons are corrupt. When 7-zip is deleted (.dll especially) and windows is restarted all files are back to normal. Load a new installment of 7-zip and all of those files have corrupt icons as before. And this solution does "ZIP" to solve this problem. I just load a new installment of 7-zip again, download and unzip what I need, then completely delete 7-zip until I need it again, then rinse and repeat. I used up my free version of WinZip.

My issue have gotten even worse. Ty!

Will formating HDD completely fix this issue

the simple version Got to task manager, click on the Windows explorer process again but dont right click and go to details just click "restart" where end task normally is and then it reloads everything

Same here. I haven’t done the command prompt at all or the switches yet I figured I would like read some of the messages first and I’m not really liking what I’m seeing. My biggest concern is all my icons, all my folders, and all my files are all white. I also have a white image that appears on or in everything.

For my problem I didn't have enough disk space when i checked my SSD had 50 MB so after making space the icons reappeared again hope this helps some people

There never is another solution to this on any of the many videos that illustrate this procedure. Notice you didn't receive a reply? I've searched the BubeTube completely for a solution and I believe there isn't one short of a new and clean reinstallation of windows.

bruh when i end the task of " windows explorer" my pc shuts down

This worked for me. Hope it works for you too. Followed manymany blogs, suggestions. Problem : BLANK "Music" Folders on Desktop with files IN the Folder blankbut the Songs were listed)................. I went to a Folder/Dbl Click/Opened it/Had 3 Songs/Picked a Song/Rt. Click/Properties/You see a "CHANGE"....of course all my Songs is to be opened with WMP/ So at the bottom(OPTIONS) I REclicked WMP again/OK/Apply..........Song turned to a Music Note/Film Icon......... Went to a Music Folder(had 5 Songs in it)......Rt. Click FOLDER/Properties/Customize/TICK Box "Also apply this Template....."/Change ICON( I picked the Music "Tune"at the very end)/APPLY/REFRESH...............I found REFRESH helped after about 4 Folders and ALL Songs turned to the "Music Tone"/"Movie Strip" in EVERY Music Folder I had. Downfall was EACH Music Folder(have 67 of them) didn't show the FOLDER "Tune" by itself, BUT all the Songs INside each Folder CHANGED like the rest of them. Desktop back to normal. Worked the same for Desktop Files that were blank.

Just simply run the command prompt or powershell as administrator. Nothing got screwed if it's access denied.

King Kumerle yeah, the problem was that there was barely any space, so I had to delete some stuff. POOOF 💨 all my icons showed up back to normal.
