How To Fix Ultimate Ears Wonderboom No Power/Not Charging
Ғылым және технология
Video showing how to repair the UE Wonderboom bluetooth speaker which is not turning on or charging. The problem is a short circuit capacitor which I remove. I do not show how to open the speaker, there are other videos out there. You do this repair at your own risk. I accept no responsibility for damage.

Thank you man, i just bought one for 15$ brand new, not giving life sign. And fixed as u said. Now party can go on ! ❤️
Brilliant, this worked for me as well, my first attempt was to just remove the cables hoping it would do some sort of reset but yeah, the capacitor was the culprit. I do recommend taking out a side speaker for easier wire handling, but there is a seal holding it together so it takes a bit of pressure to remove.
My problem was "No power, No charging". I removed the capacitor as explained in the video. This solved the problem. In the meantime, I had bought another Boom box. Now I have two that I can connect together. Very cool ... Thank you man !

hi pal did you just removed it or replace a new one?
This worked! Thanks a lot! And if you do not have a soldering knife, just heat up a screwdriver!
Bought this speaker 4 months ago and this exact thing happened. no lights, not charging. contacted ultimate ears and they walked me through some troubleshooting and nothing worked and they were wonderful and honored the warranty and sent me a replacement. I have NO experience taking apart electronics but with a replacement in hand I realized I have nothing to lose, I tried this fix and it WORKED perfectly! Don't forget to unclip the bottom cap to pull the whole inside mechanism out and definitely remove a speaker to undo the wires! Looks like the seal on the speaker is to keep it waterproof so don't expose it to water after this fix! thanks so much for sharing!!!! It absolutely saved my speaker from the trash and only took 30 min for a newbie!
Excellent solve. Another decent item kept out of the landfill. Thank you!
Brilliant, 5 stars for this fix, I was just about to replace mine when I saw this video. It has worked but am a little confused that it now works having removed the capacitor! Many thanks
INCREDIBLE! Thank you SO much for this video. I was ready to get rid of my speaker because it wouldn't charge or turn on no matter what I did when I found this video and it completely fixed everything. I removed one of the speakers on the side and it helped a lot with adjusting the wires as well as using heated tweezers to pry off the transistor at the end. A few things need a bit of pressure to remove but in the end everything worked out perfectly and my speaker's working good as new!! Thank you again!
You, my friend, are the man! I would never had known how to fix this- Thank you!!!
I'm so thankful to have found this! Feels great not to have to buy a brand new one just because of that tiny peice of metal. Thank you so much
Just did it!! Havent done anything similar in my life. I was pretty desperate so just tried it. It was quite hard wont lie, mostly the part when having to remove the transistor, I heated up with a lighter some tweezers and finally got it. Worked out perfectly, thank you!!

It's a capacitor, not a transistor. Big difference.
You are a legend! Thank you so much. Feels like a the most blatant form of planned obsolescence which is sad but gives me hope that the internet can be a amazing place to overcome that!
Thank you mate, it's working now. You made a breton guy happy 😊!
how do you know which one is the capacitator? our models are identical but the boards look different.
Thanks a lot for sharing this! Thats one more Speaker saved from premature disposal. How did you find this out? Really appreciated.
The element on my PCB where placed in different position then the one on the video. And without experience I thought I was cooked. The capacitor was hard to find and harder to recognise, so I pick up what I though it was. And boom its actually work. I can get full charge on it. Dude you're a genius

Es funktioniert, danke. Habe das Bauteil mit dem Dremel weggefräst. Der Speaker funktioniert wieder einwandfrei
It WORKED, thank you verry much, although it took a lot of time to open the speaker, at least it worked
Worked an absolute treat! My pasty hands didn’t help but all is good!
Totally worked, 1 screwdriver and a scalpel to GENTLY prise the right piece off. Recommend tweezers for the connectors and definitely had to cut remove the speaker as connectors were so short.
Thank you so much!!! I wasn't confident at first do to this by myself as I know nothing about this area, but it turned out to be a great challenge and now the wonderboom is working fine Only thing is I have accidentally took out one capacitor, bigger one, written E9, 220, 16V on top. Any idea if it's bad? Thanks again! Amazing video
My speaker just died so I tried this out - it worked!
Cheers bro, worked very well. Super happy!
Thank you so much, it worked!! This is obviously a common fault that needs to be fixed by the manufacturer.....

I bought mine’s from Argos 2 months ago surely it’s still under warranty? I’m absolutely hopeless at things like removing a capacitor especially since I got thrown out of technically drawing, woodwork, metal work and art at high school. I wouldn’t even dream of taking my Wonderboom 3 to pieces. What would be my chances of taking back to Argos for a replacement? TIA
Thank you really much !!!!! I never thougt that this box ever gonna play Musik again but your video was grate!! It was a little bit difficult with the Kabels but i made it.grate video!!
This fix worked for me. Thank You!
I could fix 3 out of 5, 2 of them were charging but died when reassembled and turned on for a second. Maybe another capacitor died without the other one, how likely is it that the one above died too? And how exactly did you find the dead one?
It worked! Thank you so much!

Wielkie dzięki, działa jak należy 😃
My Wonderboom 2 plays for 3 hours at 80% then dies. Dead battery. Do these speakers use an 18650 battery I can replace with a higher amp version? Will this kill the charge controller chip?
Thanks so much! Worked!
Thank you worked great!
What does this capacitor actually do? Would it be the case that it only just need disconnecting and reconnecting the battery pack? has anybody tried this without removing the capacitor?
worked for me, thanks a lot
Wow man! Thank you so much, it worked😁

What if both lights are on , on top ? Should I do this on the video as well ?

but you think removing that capacitor should fix this kind of problem when the speaker shows no sign of charging?

Big help. Thanx :)
@Clint Lipscomb - my Wonderboom looks like yours but had a PB2 board variant like @therandomgermanguy. It wouldn't charge with 2 different cables, but did have enough power left to briefly turn on (flashing red) then back off with tone like @Andjru Werderitsch saw. I removed shorted capacitor C31 which is on the edge of the PB2 board, next to the CN9 connector. Now my Wonderboom charges with 2 out of 3 cables & works fine at all volumes.
Hi, would you know how to find a replacement battery for one of these? Thanks

Hi. The part number for the battery is 533-000154. I can only find them on Alliexpress for $14.99. I've only had to replace the battery in one but I used a battery from a water damaged speaker to repair it.
Wow! That's so helpful, why does it blow out though?
is this the first version?

Thank You, I fixed my wonderboom…
I don’t get it ¿is the device working properly? I noticed in the video that the music pauses randomly. Well, I have a Steren Boc 830 speaker and I have the same problem, the music starts to shut down or pause when I go a bit further of my phone, but I have a Wonderboom 2 that is working very fine, even too far from my phone. I think it’s a Bluetooth connectivity issue, and I don’t know how to reset the Steren Boc speaker to its factory settings. If somebody knows how to fix it, please let me know. Kind regards

A capacitor is not "a tiny piece of metal". It's an electronic component and it serves a purpose in the design. Not sure how simply removing it without replacing it can solve the problem as it should provide functionality necessary to the operation of the speaker. If you can remove it without it affecting anything, why is it there in the first place?
Damn it's working 🔥
Would this cause anything damages overheated or burn the speaker??

Hi Jorge. I have done more than 10 of them without any problems. Read the comment you will see that 3 other viewers have followed my instructions and got their speakers working. Only attempt this repair if you are confident you can follow my instructions as I will not be held responsible if you break your speaker.
Let me see if I understand, you removed the broken capacitor, but you don't replace it with a new one?? I have a unit just with the same troubles, no power, no charge and would like to attempt repairing it. If it is just a matter of removing the short capacitor, great. But if I need to replace with a new one, which one should I buy??

I've had that problem which was caused by a bad battery. Try charging it for a couple if hours. I the light does not go solid white, the battery may be bad. A fully charged battery should measure about 4.2v. It is also possible that the speaker is still not charging the battery although I've not had that problem with that charging board

Clint, Thank you. I was able to do this repair and successfully fix one speaker, and has been working great ever since. Amazon (and others) sell cheapo soldering irons for less than $20. Buy one and you'll have one for the future too. I've had one for decades and have used it countless times for electronic repairs like this, or just for soldering wires, etc. It's an invaluable tool, unless you like chucking things in the landfill.

I'm just about to do this, but I have a question. Why would this capacitor prevent the speaker from working? Also, my unit doesn't show signs of charging, but still has enough power to show "red light" then it powers off. Is the capacitor still the issue?? Thank you sir.
@clintlipscomb7532
2 жыл бұрын
Hi. The capacitor basically turns in to a wire and stops the speaker from powering up and charging. It is possible the capacitor is ok in your speaker as you are getting a red flashing light. If you have not done already, use a different charger and lead. Check the USB socket on the speaker to make sure no pins are damaged. I've also had the battery go bad in these speakers. You may also have a different charging board in your speaker but I've not been able find the problem with that board.
