As a generator technician electrician working on a 160kVA gene the 63A 3 phase outlet kept tripping everytime the socket outlet was switched on to utilise the appliance. The fault was at the 'Neutral' conductors at the RCD. They were incorrectly positioned . The supply was fitted on the load side and vice versa. Once corrected happy days 🤙🇦🇺

Earth leakage coil became damaged due to stolen neutral supply cable. Was tripping without load cable being connected. Replaced it, no more fault.

I have a mate who brought a second hand mistrial celling fan, Which has a 5 speed controller with both summer and winter settings. When he tried to have it installed, The winter settings tripped the RCD.

I had this mate, and it actually burnt. We had similar issue. What happened was that we had 4 main circuit's, 2 for lights and 2 for main power. It tripped every now and than and we would just flick it back on. We typically only had fridgeand freezer, microwave, occasionally toaster and kettle, tv and sound bar. That was basically it on this. One night it tripped so we flipped it back on. Tripped again relatively quick flicked it back on after turning some stuff off. It tripped again but this time smelt something burnt. I'd pulled off the cover and all the wires were badly burnt. Thankfully nothing caught fire. Called the electrician and he came out. What happens was that the Australian standard 16amp house fuses weren't used, instead they used 20s and loaded it up when they wired the house, so he rewired it for us. Worst part about electricity is you can't see it, hear it or smell it so incredibly dangerous. We were very lucky.
