Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Thanks to Grainfather for sending me a replacement part for free even though my unit is more than 5 years old!
In this video, I share how I replaced the part and it wouldn't be one of my vlogs without a spanner thrown into the works! 😂
I hope you find this useful, please feel free to ask any questions in the comments box below.

Perfect timing, I had an issue last brew on Saturday and am talking to Grainfather re issues with this and also it takes ages for my system to reach boiling point.Hopefully this may fix both issues on my 110v system. Really enjoy your videos, keep it up Griffo!

Nice fix. I have thermal paste here if you ever need any, will only take a tiny spot on that to spread out. That cockerel is hilarious, made my dog bark every time which confirms I couldn't keep one here.

My grainfather tripped out on my first brew and as you say, it is a nightmare resetting. Since then I always put my grainfather on two 3x2 timber skids so I can get my hand underneath without tilting the GF. This also lifts the GF up an couple of inches which is good for me as I'm quite tall and it stops me bending down quite as much. Sods law, the trip has never tripped since that first day but I always use the 3x2 timbers because the day I don't, it's bound to trip again.

Is it possible that the reset switch is missing in current versions of the GF?

  • @twodogswalking840

Well done. There's not a great deal of info out there on this problem. I had a brew day from hell that had me resetting more than sixty times but I was determined not to give up. I've since taken the reset switch from my T500 and used that. Emailed Grainfather hopefully for a replacement switch.

Really glad you got a response from Grainfather support. My thermometer probe won't stay seated in the thermowell. Nothing for me after several emails and tweets. 👎🏻

I'm wondering whether the problem wasn't the switch at all, but the corroded connections to the blue cables - one of the screw looked somewhat rusty. Perhaps it's enough to carefully clean the contacts.

I replaced my thermal cutout with the same and it still kept cutting out. So then I replaced one with a thermal cut out rated at 175C. Never had a problem since. They also have a thermal fuse anyway so to use a higher rated cut out isn’t a problem.

Interesting and thank you. For the Thermal Grease you can use simply CPU paste, it should support up to 150 degrees. Could you please share the code of the thermal switch of the GF? I cannot be read. I saw that the T500 uses the NC KSD301 125 degree, with respect to the one of the GF does not have a reset button, simply open the circuit at 125 degrees and it closes back again when the temperature reaches the value of 110 degrees. So I believe that it is much more safe for the GF to have the version with button, cause even though it is a pain in the ass to stop brewing at least you notive that you have a bottom burnt out and you have to reset it manually after a cleaning. with the KSD301 you might not notice anything cause it turns on and off automatically and it might bring you to overamp of the heating element and melting the bottom plastic. Have you also notice if the heating element can be replaced? Thanks @"homebrew griffo"

Thank you, The thermal switch is the same as you state (KSD301-PR). I don't believe the heating element is replaceable unfortunately! Cheers 🍻

Mine started doing this today, had it since 2015, super frustrating when step mashing… had to continually reset to get it to a sac rest. You shouldn’t have to do this on a system so expensive

maybe there's some good reason but I can't see what this safety switch actually achieves. My GF is only 4 mths old, only 4 brews in an it's unusable bc of this issue now. Last brew it cut out probably 20 times and no resetting brought it back to life, it just came back on when it felt like it. If the switch actually has a safety function it should be accessible on the side not under the base. If it has no function it should not be there. All it seems to achieve is ruining people's brews.
