How To Fix The Crown Season 5

Just after Season 5 of The Crown released on Netflix, I stated that the tv show has lost its identity. This was due to the fact that, in some places, the quality of the writing did not match that of previous seasons. So while we wait for The Crown season 6, I will try to tackle some of the issues this season had, and provide at least a partial solution as to how to fix The Crown season 5.

This is my second or third time seeing this. Your first suggestion especially is fantastic, but I agree woth most of them, and even if I do not, I do not think badly of them. I think Margaret's subplot could have worked if a) she displayed maturity and did not blame her sister, b) she used her knowledge to help her sister cope - something like "all marriages are not like our papa's and mama's, some of them fail and that is okay", "of course we should blame ourselves and the system, but perhaps we will figure out royal marriages of modern world in the next generation". Perhaps showing her humour "well, if monarchy falls, you have your horses, Phillip his carriages, Anne her horseriding, Charles can play the king in theatre" or something like "what worse can happen, the palace was on FIRE". I gave writers credit that there wll be a reason why they chose to focus on Margaret's mostalgia in the middle of young royals' dumpsterfire. As you said beforehand, politics dissapeared in season 5. 90s could have been particularly interesting in my opinion. Trust in monarchy plummeted. Royal family was not only object of critisism, but public ridicule. You could show royal members reacting differently (sadness, anger, annoyance, sarcasm, acceptance...). The intermational relations also showed narrative promise. The end of cold war and fall of the Soviet Union was both glorious and horrifying for Europe. Socialism fell and its iron grin as well, but crime in newly-formed democracies rose, as well as economic uncertainty. The ordinary people were both enthusiastic as well as petrified by what they have seen. One of the stronger scenes was PM informing the Queen of Boris Jeltzin.
My two favorite episodes from season 5 are Mou Mou and Ipatiev House. I could care less about the Diana storyline.
Why I dislike the Crown season 5 is because of the casts of the queen and the prince. Imelda does not have the regal aura, I don't see the queen in her, throw me off every time. Same as the prince charles... too muscular.. wth

Phillips carriage riding storyline put me to sleep
