Thanks for all the suggestions. While none of these worked this time, they have helped me in the past, so I wanted to share with you another possibility, which worked for me in this instance. Call your hosting provider and ask them to check their PHP. The website I was troubleshooting last night had an outdated version of PHP on the hosting side.

Which hosting company are you using for your website? You can log into your website's hosting company website and from the control panel you may find file manager options to help you access your wp root directory.

Thanks man, disabling plugins by renaming the folders solved my error on my website. Good work with video. I was updating the plugins and all of sudden website went down during the update process.... Thanks again..

Helped a lot, since I got many site errors which I was unable to fix. Seems like bad plugin prevented me from loading a website. I renamed plugins folder, which solved my problem. Now I still need to figure which plugin went bad but nevertheless, this informative video helped me so much. So I liked and follow. Thank you so much!

Great tips! The 500 Internal Server error was only on our Admin panel, btw, not on the live site; the 500 server error is now gone after I renamed .htaccess and resaved Permalinks, but received an error on the top of the Permalinks page: "Permalink structure updated. Remove write access on web.config file now!" A new .htaccess file was also NOT generated. I had to manually re-create and save it. I would like to understand what this error is I see on the Permalinks page and how to fix it. We self-host on a windows server. Many thanks!

Thank you. For me, I could not access any page on my wordpress site. Could not access the wordpress admin area also. So, I renamed the plugin directory and boom, the site came up. I updated Wordpress, the theme and then restored the original name of the plugin directory. Site started functioning normally.

Hey, i renamed the .htaccess to .htaccess.bak and then i doubleclicked on the file and now i have 2 files there: both .htaccess and .htaccess.bak. Which should i delete?

Hmm, after renaming the Plugins directory, it fixed the issue. However, when I renamed it back, all the Plug-ins were Deactivated. And we have a lot, I wish there was a disclaimer in the video about this happening. I don't remember all the ones that were activated or not. I took a backup, but would have taken a screenshot of the plug-ins. I guess this post can serve as the disclaimer that this can happen, so screenshot your plug-in status before renaming the plug-in directory. Otherwise, thanks for the video!

Doing my 5th and last website migration and ran into this again! The first couple of times, the plugins folder rename did the trick, another time, it was the theme. This time for the 500 error - it wasnt the htaccess, not the plugins, not the theme, not the php.Still stuck.

If I delete htaccess I can go to dashboard. At the moment I click to save button on permalink I got error 500. I canot go to dashboard until I delete again htaccess. What to do?? the whole wordpress project was transfered from another server.

Last fix is use 9mm gun on the computer :) BTW thanks for tips my error was file permissions been to secure "600" so 644 worked well I also moved wp-config.php to custom location outside of core directory for security reasons

In that case, you'll need to access your site's server files via FTP in order to deactivate the plugin that is causing the 500 error, which is in your case the Google Analytics Plugin. You can head to your WordPress Themes Folder and rename that plugin's folder to something else in order to disabled it.

I have issues only on MacBook, but when I use WP with the PC I don't have any Problem. So none of the solutions will work for me. (its not the browser). Knowing that, I do nothing of this and save hours or even days of work.
