Heads up for others, I have 8 screws that hold the key bed to the top case. Additionally, open yours up before ordering anything! I was convinced mine was a cracked black key, but it was just the weighted rod under the key that had popped out of the case and was misaligned. I popped it back into place and really only needed the silver sharpie, lucky!

I had a kitchen fire and believe it or not if half your kitchen burns down, your entire house and everything in it will be damaged from smoke and ash. So my piano got covered in ash and I have to do a thorough cleaning. This video is exactly what I was looking for. It will take some time but I should be able to get it looking brand new

I started in september 2020 with a p45. Then I upgraded to the P125 and have been pleased with it. It ain't the world's greatest keyboard but it does the job for now.

Had accidentally knocked over my P-71 and some keys were stuck. This video was crystal clear with all of the steps required to open the piano. I found that some of the metal rods had jumped out of their track causing the stuck keys. It was simple to push them back into place and that solved the problem. Absolute genius step to mark the screws with a Sharpie. Would have never thought to do that on my own. Thank you

I had a slightly noisy key on my Yamaha-125 and decided to use your steps. Once I opened the piano, there were just a couple of extra 'cables' I had to disconnect, but other than that every thing else was the same. I had purchased the silicon grease, the plastic bonder, and a silver sharpie; however, in my case, I didn't have to use any of those items because miraculously, all of the moving and taking apart of the cabinet of the piano fixed my problem. I used small drops of whiteout on the places where I removed those screws holding the key bed instead of the sharpie which was not visible. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Sharp and to the point. This should have been rated top.

Another tip. I used the brush from my camera's sensor cleaning kit to whisk out the all the cracks and spaces.

@@benjaminperol3251 the screws holding the middle octave were loose, so just tightening them up solved it. I didn’t want to glue the black and white keys together as suggested in the video, but if I need to open it up again to tighten things, I might consider it.

If I tighten the screws shown at 3:05 (in their respective octave) do you think I would solve it without the need of doing anything else like sticking the white and black keys together? I want to be sure before doing it and if I have to do the glue part probably is too much for me.

@@juanmapiredda6958 Hi there. It worked for me for a few months, but I think things have loosened up again (though not as bad). If I open it up again, I will probably glue the keys. I’m also thinking of using a very fine sandpaper to put a light grain front to rear on the white keys to make them less slippery.

I really want to say: Thank you very much - for helping me to repair a Yamaha P-125 Keyboard! Only a Key was stuck, but I had to remove the > 56 screws - and - thanks you for giving the hint to mark the screws in the keyboard. THAT was helpful also!

Extremely helpful - I was able to successfully fix my dislocated/stuck keys, and my 8 year old daughter helped as well. Great video and explanation!

Thank you. I dropped my P125 and several keys got stuck. After taking it apart via your instructions, I had it fixed and playing again in half an hour. Great tip to mark the interior screw locations, finding the right spots would have been a nightmare.

I found that the silver sharpie did not leave quite enough of a mark; so I used spots of white-out instead. You're right...marking those interior screw locations is important. Also I am glad I took pictures of what I was doing which helped me to put it back together again.

wow - that's some GREAT info. i plan on choppin' my roland rd-64 to 2 octaves+it's low 3 keys plus a hi c so 28 notes. So choppin off the top 3+ octaves. I'm hoping I can manage it with my dremel and some 1x6s glued into a side panel. I'm hoping the missing keys don't kill the electronics. we'll seeee... (I have a weird midi sequencer that'll play left and and right hand with whichever note in the left/right you wanna hit - it uses your velocity but all the (real) notes of the track you're playing. That way I can bring the short piano in my van on vacation and stuff :)

Yikes! It's a big job but after 18 months my P125 has gotten very clatter-y. This job scares me, though it's really just tedious. Still..I wish someone was around to do it. I cant live without a piano. Thanks so much for this, it was only today that the clatter became too much.

What I've learned today is that you have to put in ALL the screws and you have to even out the torque so that's balanced all around.

2:00 mark your connectors in a way that you can determine their orientation, they *can* be plugged in the wrong way

Great video! The power light on mine will not go out. When I plug it up, it comes on. You can play it, but when you hold the power button down, it stops making sound and the power light stays on. Then, you are unable to get it make sound again without unplugging it and plugging it back in.

You have a good eye for noticed the red area of my piano. No... it's not felt. Rather, it's a red vynal strip that has adhesive. I did this just for aesthetic reasons. Sorry... I don't have any experience installing felt on a keyboard.

Thanks for sharing! Off tune, huh? Sorry... I'm not sure what could cause that. One way to find out if the issue with with the piano's software is to capture mini and add the piano voice through a DAW. If this fixes the issue then then problem is they way your piano generates the notes. If it doesn't solve the issue, the problem may be something else. I know this suggestion won't fully solve the issue... but, it may get you one step closer. Either way, good luck and happy piano playing.

Great video. Follow all the instructions and got rid of the noise in one of the keys. However, when applying the plastic binder at 3:53 minute you apply it at the bottom of the key bed section, do I need to do the same with the second layer of the key bed? Let me tell you this has save me a lot of money. The way things are now this would cost me at least $200. Thank you very much.

Really appreciate this video, but any tips for how to get the keys back on? I dismantled mine, and it is EXTREMELY hard to get them back on. Not even close to as easy as appears in this video.

Which part are you have trouble getting back on?

Mine has the power button and the function button not working, I have to push really hard and at a certain angle on the power button just to turn it on and the function button is quite literally now non functional and now both buttons are not working and my keyboard is pretty much dead now :( it’s over 3 years old now(Yamaha p71), Same as the p45

I had a middle C that was knocking. I did the whole procedure as you showed and cured the middle C. Unfortunately I now have the entire bottom octave going knock knock. ahhh! I haven't screwed all the screws in yet, but I don't think that will help. I';ll have to do it again, reset the keyboard and hope and pray. any ideas? I'm exhausted.

I cleaned, applied a gentle lube in spots and checked everything. Still...knock knock.

@@ArthurRosch If all the screws are tight and everything is lubed up real good that should solve your issue. I presume nothing is cracked. Maybe the acrews are no longer tight into the plastic because the plastic is all stripped out. If that's the case you'll have to epoxy the screws in but if you do that, you'll never get them back out... so... that's your tough choice you'll have to make on your own. Frankly, if the keys make noise, I'd attempt to fix it... even if I could never fix it again because the screws are glued in solid. I just wouldn't be able to tolerate the noise. Good luck!

I have a yamaha np-12 I do admit I let it out in the dust for a while and some fluff and dust particles and a tiny pin fell in one of the speakers in an attempt to remove the fluff. stupid i know. I cannot retrieve it. Now the yamaha speaker makes a cackling sound when pressing on the lower notes on the highest volume like something inside is vibrating. I tried removing the dust and gently tapping on the piano when it's upside down but no such luck. How can I fix this?

This is incredibly helpful. At 4:42 I noticed the row of rubber membranes (I think?) that I assume are the velocity sensors. Is there a way to safely clean these? One of the white keys on my P45 has messed up velocity (not as responsive, sometimes is at full velocity even with the slightest touch). I also have a Yamaha Reface DX which has the same velocity issue on one of its keys. I'm wondering if it is a physical thing on both units or something that could be solved by correctly cleaning the velocity pads? Cheers

Oh no! This seems like an electronics problem. I would do a google search for: "Yamaha P45 Repair Parts and Accessories" and see what you find. Perhaps talk to someone at a music store. Finally, I fear this issue may warrant replacing the entire piano. I hope I'm wrong about that. Good luck!

For some time now, when I touch the body (except for the wooden part) or when I hit the keys a little hard, my piano makes a sound like a marble. This issue gets worse when I hold the pedal and play music.(I tried even when the piano is turned off and there is no electric current in it, it still makes this sound). What is the problem? First... I don't know. However, opening it up and seeing if you notice anything visual out of place would be a good first-step.

Is there any help if the keyboard is sounding like you are pressing multiple keys? Sounds like the volume jumps with it too

Hi. Thank you for the video. Very helpful. I applied Plumber's Grease (rectorseal plumbers grease) as I can't find silicone grease in the UK if not through Amazon. I applied it quite generously yesterday and I was really happy with the result. Today the noisy keys in the middle section are back as before. Was it the product I used? How come it was fine and overnight got worse again? Thank you. :)

Mine did this and I used the hair dryer trick cant find thr guy who said it was from humidity. I was shammpoibg my carpet all day and then this loud noises off key. Did hair dryer

Some of the black keys on my p45 are a little wobbly, and make a clicking noise whenever I press them in a certain way. Do you know what could be causing this?

My P45 was fine until like 2 months ago, , the volume only works at almost max, anothing lower than max volume is to low to even practice, been searching for solutions but no one seems to have this problem, i can't return it beacause i already have it for 5 years ,its weird because im only a begginer i have been playing for 6 years and i rarely pratice and when i do i play like for 30 minutes

Metal rods of various sizes are attached to the keys and it appears these rods are the weights.

Do you have any recomendations with keys being pressed at the same time ? Sometimes, when i pressed a key, it'll activate the next one. Mainly when doing chords. Should i clean or wash the plastic on the PCB or should i just use isopropyl alcohol? i tried to clean it because of it, but no succeed. Thanks before hand!

I’m glad this video is helpful! No… I’ve never experienced that issue. I’m not sure what would cause a key to play the wrong sound. What I have documented in the video is a mechanical process. What you have described seems to be a software-type issue… although I can’t be 100% sure based solely on your description of the issue. Nevertheless, good luck with your repair! Desmonta el piano completamente sacando fotos de cada pieza que desmontes y de cada tornillo para poder volver a montarlo nuevamente. limpia las gomas y los contactos de las placas electrónicas que están debajo de las teclas con alcohol hisopropilico , luego seca todas las piezas con un secador de pelo, con aire frío ,no caliente. Y tú piano volverá a funcionar, saludos.

I have this problem on my P-45. The E and E flat, A and A#, I think on both the 4th and 5th octaves stopped working after I didn't play the keyboard for a year. I have it a hard whack with my palm underneath and both As started working. I'm going to take it apart to clean as I read it's likely dust inside affecting the contacts.

@@javiermt7227Wow, I had an issue with my Yamaha P-125 where two keys from each octave wouldn’t play when played legato. I did what Javier suggests in their comment and it completely fixed the issue! Open the piano and clean all the dust with 90%+ alcohol (applied using ear cleaning swabs). For anyone else with this issue: make sure you carefully apply the alcohol on the green electronic board that’s directly underneath the piano keys, as that’s where most dust is gathered and where your issue most likely comes from. Then put it all back together following a tutorial video. It took me 2-3h in total, but it’s been so worth it not having to take it to repair!

I have a weird problem with my P45. one day it would not turn on at all. No light, sound, anything. I took it apart disconnected all the cables and put it back together again. It worked perfectly for about 2 hours and then died again. I again took it apart and did the same thing. It worked again for a few hours and died again. I have looked of the board and everything looks fine. The cable is displaying 12v on my multimeter. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be? Thanks

How are the long term effects of using the lube you used? I'm struggling to decide which lube to buy.

You have a good eye! Answer: It's not felt. It's a red sticker. I added it just because it looked better. My piano is the P-71.

Hi! Thank you so much for making this video. I have a P-125 and I have a white key that is "clunky". It has a little "stickiness" before returning to the default position and it makes a louder clicky noise than the other keys. Would just applying the silicone grease be the solution to this problem? Is the epoxy really necessary? Is there a way to apply the grease without opening up the keyboard? Sorry for all the questions, I'm kinda nervous about opening the keyboard up and I don't want to screw things up. Also I believe I counted 8 screws instead of 7? Is that correct?

Oh no! So sorry. I'm not sure what the next step would be. If you haven't plugged it in after it got wet I would hope it would function as expected after it dried out. Perhaps open the piano and run some fans on it for a day or two... then, after it's 100% dry, put it back together, plug it in, and power it on. Good luck!

If it's clunking or thumping probably the Felt strips need to be replaced. They get compressed and the key movement is no longer muffled.
