I bought a PS4 that was extremely dusty, and it was a smoker's PS4, so the whole thing was gunked up. I started with spraying the dust out of everything. Then I tried the disc drive and it wasn't even taking, so I did the Qtip to the rollers thing and it worked like a charm like it usually does. But the disc wasn't reading afterwards. I tried your software methods, but I ended up having to take the disc drive apart and clean the laser. And luckily for me it did work right after. Very happy I don't have to replace the drive. When I was putting it back together I had to find a different person's video because your angle is very hard to see sometimes, and you went through the disassembly and reassembly too fast. I couldn't figure out where that small ribbon cable on the right went.

I'm not even joking if it's not recognising disks but it's making the noise like it's trying, quickly slap the top of it until it does. Should aim for about 10 slaps within 3 seconds. spank it sort of light but with a little bit of force don't smack the shit out of it. Works 100% of the time for me

What's the issue that causes these lasers not to work tho? Just out of curiosity. My pro has had this issue since about a month after I bought it. It will actually read dvds, but not Blu rays or games. Having bought it off of ebay, although new, I had no receipt to take it back anywhere. Periodically I'd check KZread, Playstation forums, and Google searches to no avail. The videos never actually solved the problem. And Sony, as far as I know, has never addressed it, or responded to the numerous complaints about this issue. Glad to finally see it resolved. Tho I'll probably just upgrade to Ps5 soon instead of bothering to pay to have it fixed, it's good to have closer. For several years now I've just been hard tapping the console right above where the disc goes in as it's loading to get it to read the disc. And that trick has always worked. Matter of fact, I'm about to do it right now and play some fallout 76, lol.

What does it mean if the light comes up white when you put in a disc? It spits out the disc but you have to give it a minute

So my disc drive is read the disc until it goes to start the game and then says make sure disc isn't dirty or damaged but the game is brand new any suggestions

Could it still be blu Ray drive if my ps4 will still play some games, but then I have other games that are brand new that just keep saying unrecognized disc?..

😢😢hello well it worked really worked i played 1 match my wwe2k23 was doing that so hearing the music on the background is rarely cause immediately when i open the application it shows display then it shows that i did it use your method it worked i played 1 match when i put on a tag team match my ps4 started making that unrecognizable sound then boom close application and remove disc i did again do the method still works well but durunf first player entrance that pops up again i deleted the application and redo that process ut does the sane thing but doesn't want me to play 1 single match 😢

Hi I have a ps4 Model 1102a. I am getting the 'unrecognised disc error' on most discs (even brand new ones). I am going to try replace the parts myself - my question is, do I need to buy the whole replacement optical drive or just the laser lens? I have two links for reference: @t @t I live in Australia. There is quite a difference in prices and that is why I ask which type of parts I need - the laser reader or the whole optical drive?

Mine did the exact same thing. I just tap on the ps4 above the BR drive as I insert a disc until I hear it start spinning and it fixed my problem. Bit of a ball ache to tap every time when you insert but its better than dropping 50 bucks on a new drive and believe it or not but it seems to be consistent problem.

I have a similar issue. It's a 2 disc game, RDR2, I had put it on my PS4 a year or so ago, but started having freezing issues. For a while I could restart and still play. Then the console started kicking out the disc, saying files were corrupted and I should delete. So I deleted. Re-installed data disc just fine, prompted to put in game disc to finish. It loads about 20% and pauses, won't go any further. I have gone to safe mode, updated/rebuild data base, unplugged overnight, cleaned both sides of disc, no visible scratches or smudges or defects on disc, nothing seems to help. Other games like Madden19, Uncharted work just fine. Any suggestions?

What if it only reads some disc's others it will not. Even with a brand new disc drive it does the exact same issue. I can put watchdogs and rocket league in works first time but if I try fallout or black ops it says unrecognised disc. Disc's are immaculate with no issue what so ever work in other console perfectly fine

Soo, mine loads the game/downloads the game! But bit after about 2 mins it stops and says can't read disk eject! It does the clunk sound over and over as well!

Okay I got a question for you how do you fix a PS4 when it reads the game disc but part way through loading it it comes back with the saying error that the disc is dirty or broken and I already cleaned and replaced the laser but it still does the same thing and one day it just started doing this it wasn't locked it was in touch the game wasn't ejected it just started saying it to Grand theft Auto and all my other disc games how do I fix it

I turned the console on its side inserted the disk and now it works. Best thing it was free.

I opened mines up a few times cleaned it and got a new laser kept same logic bored and connection ribbons it wont spin still ..so i swapped the new laser and put it on the original laser slide from old laser still doesn't spin laser tries to read .

How do you know when a laser is bad or a drive is bad ?! I don't know wtf is happening Because I never ever place discs I been playing game downloads only from the beginning I played maybe 5 discs in the 6 years I had this shit never moved it dropped it nothing. I did have a Xbox sitting on top of PS4 all this time maybe the weight of the Xbox pushed down on the PS4 ???, Anyone plz tell me what to do here disc goes in makes a clicking noise and won't read any discs the fan definitely is working it's just the disc issue so I think it's jammed maybe the rollers off track
