I FOUND THE FIX !!! After watching numerous videos with this error code and contacting Sony, and talking to you fine people. I was able to narrow our problem down ! The error code is caused by a miscommunication between the update and the hardware, and in most of our cases, our hardware was malfunctioning in the disc drive area. A lot of video recommend tightening your ribbons, cleaning everything, checking fuses, etc! Well, ALL of these things need done.. you need to CLEAN your system SPOTLESS , sweep out dust and wipe out with alcohol wipes. Clean ribbons, make sure they are not crimped, and have a secure connection! And last but not least, with previous experience with the ps3s breaking down I used to use a hair dryer on the motherboard to repair sony's weak solder, as it worked with the yellow light of death, it also worked on my disc drive motherboard! Again, The steps you should follow 1.) Narrow your hardware malfunction 2.) Focus in this area and clean/double check everything 3.) Check/Clean/Secure ALL RIBBONS 4.) Check fuses on motherboard 5.) Heat up the disc drive motherboard to repair solder (Hot, but not TO HOT) . Try these steps and try to download the update... After a week and giving up on my PlayStation... I decided to fix it ! And BOOM. First deep Attempt at fixing the problem and we Got it ! After a week of thinking my PlayStation was no use anymore... I'm so relieved that it's fixed again ! 😌 Everybody please try the steps if nothing else is working. I may have lost all my data in my factory resets... But I'm so thankful my PlayStation is still alive and took the update ♥️ try it guys and let me know of your success 😊😊

What if the error message pops up after the update installs and it's stuck on the error screen because your controllers won't connect once it's on. My controllers will still connect to the ps4 to turn it on while it's off, but as soon as it turns on, the error screen pops up and the controllers turn off and will not connect.

Same. I just updated mine and kept getting error SU-42118-6. I'm only using phones limited data and I'm getting the same error whenever I installed the update. Now I'm running out of data and still, can't play my games because pf this stupid software updates.

This is the exact problem I had. I opened up the PS4, took the power supply out and disconnected all the ribbon cables and all connectors basically anything connecting to the motherboard, gave them clean and everywhere else. Then took the motherboard off to clean as well, all done with a can of compressed air. Reassembled the PS4, plugged it in, updated fine as if nothing ever happened!

Absolutely nothing is working for the lot of us... I'm gonna go ahead and put the blame on the update being corrupted... Perhaps we have older PlayStations and are being outdated? 🤔 Idk but it's kinda bullshit and makes me want to avoid Sony at this moment...

Also each time I try to delete the error message. It just keeps coming back so I don't see the point in trying. It does not stop me from playing the games. It's just a nuisance I see from time to time.

I can no longer play the games I want to play because they require the most recent update to play.. which, regardless what I do . The PlayStation is rejecting 10.70

I tried everything and nothing worked….but I finally manage to fix it!!it’s the bd rom ribbon guys,cleaned the the tips with some alcohol and plug it in firmly and it’s all good now

Yo bro, so my system is doing something funky. It says it can't rebuild database. And the 10.70 update keeps deleting from the ps4. The other day I had fixed it supposedly, I was able to reinstall the update n then it rebuilt database on its own, idk what that was about . But today I get back on n it's doing the same thing and the 10.70 is gone . I'm assuming it's corrupted or something

That’s exactly what happened to mine.

AFTER EXHAUSTING ALL OPTIONS - I got my ps4 slim working. I used a soldering iron to bridge the F6202 fuse. After I started it back up, update went through fine and it is now fully functioning. NOTE: bridging fuses is not a great solution and risks damaging the board, but if you have tried all other options give it a shot. Soldering irons are cheap

My button stopped working before. I actually bent the pin closing my case one day during cleaning. Check on youtube it should be a simple fix. Its a lil metal flat pin right under the blue strip

The error code for the 10.70 update for me it keeps saying SU-42481-9. Do I still do the same steps that you are doing in this video? Because every time I try the update and immediately says error shortly after resuming. I have tried pausing it. But it keeps going back to error, so do I do what you are doing in this video?

Nothing is working for a lot of us .. there is nothing we can do... The update is corrupted to us .. we must have outdated hardware....... They're knocking us off.. telling us we need to buy Ps5s ... But this is making me want to avoid Sony !

I got it working!! I had an issue with my ps4 not updating to version 10.70. It was stuck in a "fake" safe mode cycle. It kept telling me to attach a usb with the update file which I did. However it kept saying that it could not find the update file and shut down. So I put the ps4 in safe mode by holding down the power button on the console (until you hear a second beep), this brought me to the safe mode menu. I then selected > update system > update system with usb and this time it did began updating. The update file you can find on Sony's website. Hope this helps anyone with this damned issue.

Disclaimer. Do not initialize your ps4 it will not help at all. If the update via a usb doesn’t work or via the internet it’s most likely an issue with your blu ray drive cause for some reason Sony made it so that you need the blu ray driver working to update even if you don’t play any physical games

I've stopped trying at this point. I'm just gonna let the error message fly. It only pops up once, so I don't even bother with it. It doesn't mess with any of my games. So I've just left it. Well, that, and I've deleted the error message at least 10 times now. It doesn't really hurt anything, so I've just left it.

I think this is a big problem for a lot of us .. prolly older generation PlayStations being outdated .. Sony tried to say it was my hard drive but everything else works on it perfectly.. I'm half tempted to try swapping hard drives see if that works by I have an external to run on as well so it seems more it so like a update error glitch and not the PlayStation ... Possibly we have outdated hardware? 🤔 We are being forced to buy new stuff? 🤔

I have honestly stopped trying to fix the update error. I figure if I don't screw with anything it won't break. I do not want to break my PS4 by accident so yeah.
