Hi Steve. I have a 3.6L Cadillac SRX 2012. The engine light is on and I'm getting error codes P0016, P0017 and P0325. The mechanic didn't do a visual inspection but he told me it is mostly due to a bad timung chain assembly. What do you think I should do? Go ahead and change the full timing set? 134k kilometers on the odo. Thanks.

I have a 09 toyota venza that had the p0016 and p0017 codes.it ran as it it was sluggish with performance issues. I replaced the OCV and the ecm and the position sensor bank 1. Now I just have the p0017 code still. It runs and drives fine now but the code p0017 will not go away,please help!!! I have the vsc,red exclamation point and trac control on my dash.

Hi steve i have a 2007 Cadillac sts 3.6 engine i started a few months ago having a cel but it went off now its been on awhile with p0017 code when ingot there car from a private dealer the oil life was high so i figured its been change then life % got low i check it it was real dark me beening crazy got my mom to stop get oil one day she got o reillys 5 30w put it in ive had car 3months it cranks fine it stalled twice the other day for the 1st time could it be inknow needs oil change could be the cheep oil in it and needing oil change cause i dont really hear any crazy noises like timing chain or maybe needs oil change and cam sensor just hoping not timing

Hi Steve, I have a 2014 Chevy equinox, I just had a timing chain put in it about 2 weeks ago and my check engine light came on the next day after it was put in and it's giving the P0017 code. Could this be something wrong from when the timing chain was put on? Or is it a new issue that has nothing to do with the timing chain?.

Isn’t the crankshaft position on the bottom near the oil filter? The video shows the camshaft sensor twice?

I have a 2011 traverse with p0017 and p0008 codes. Would this video help for both codes?

После замены всех сенсоров распредвалов и катушки зажигания 4-го цилиндра появилась вновь ошибка, теперь уже p017. Помогла промывка клапнов. Спасибо за информативно видео.

Hello, if you're getting this code without any other codes present, we suggest an oil change to see if the issue will still persist. Check the condition of the Crankshaft Position Sensor, Oil Filter and the Camshaft Oil Control Valve.

Does this video apply to a 2012 Chevy traverse LS?

Hello Steve, i have a 2010 Rav 4 with over 90k thousand miles. The vehicle continues to stop and jerking to move forward while my foot is on the brake. The vehicle shuts off while idle. It will start back up but you have to place in drive right away and take off because it will shut off. It overall has a rough ride. It was hooked up to a handheld machine and received a P0017 code, which showed,Camshaft position sensor. Sensor B. Would that make my car sound like a diesel? How severe is this issue? Hello, we suggest checking/cleaning the VVT oil filter screens, front OCVs and check the timing chain for any issue.

Hello, changing oil/oil filter or replacing the camshaft position sensor could fix this code.

Changing oil worked a couple years ago.. when it threw the code ......now it through the same code again ,,,but its March 9 2023 last time I change my oil was in August 2021 I checked the oil its dirty Smells like it's losing its viscosity... Can I drive it a little bit or am I stuck? I reset the code again and I'm gonna get oil tomorrow and I filter I always forget to change it ,,i,ll let u know

Hello I have a 2013 Kia Sorento it coded a P1326 for knock sensor I replaced the Sensor clear the codes then on the test drive P0014 and P0017 popped up then the P1326 came back on is there a way that these are all connected

Hello, as you are receiving more than one error code, we highly suggest getting your vehicle visually checked by your local mechanic for further diagnosis.

I have this exact code on my 2017 Hyundai Elantra. An oil change fixed the code the last time. This time it did not. The VTT control solenoids were changed over the weekend and I’m still getting the same code thats stating they recommend changing the exact part 🤦🏽‍♀️. I have no idea what’s going on.

Hello, we suggest checking/testing the Camshaft Oil Control Valve/Crankshaft Position Sensor. A replacement could be necessary.

Those engines are prone to failure due to a design flaw when manufacturing the crank and engine blocks. There is a class action lawsuit regarding the Hyundai/ KIA

Hi Steve, I have a P0017 code on my 2018 Kia forte. This is the only code I’m getting. I’ve inspected wiring and replaced the Vvt exhaust solenoid. I got an oil change last week and they said I had an oil pan gasket leak. Could this be causing the code? Or is it something else?

Hello. Can you help me with my Ford Focus mk3? I have scanned it and the error code is P0017 and it says "Valve timing out of sequence bank 1 sensor 2(mechanical condition of engine)" and another error P0365 it says "Crankshaft position sensor signal error bank 1"

Hey mate I’m reviving just the P0017 code only

I have a 2008 Chevy Colorado throwing the code : p0017, I took it to the dealership and they wanted to replace timing chain. So I took it to another shop and they swapped out the VVT Solenoid instead. It ran good for about 90 miles then it threw the code again. Should I try replacing the Camshaft position sensor before resorting to have a shop swap out the timing chain, is it possible the sensors could be the cause of this instead of the chain?

@@nondainc Currently I'm getting the codes: p0017 and p2135 (Tps) (Reduced Power). the p2135 puts the truck into reduced power mode and it becomes almost undrivable.

Hola buenas tardes disculpe la molestia, estuve tratando de diagnóstica, una chevrolet colorado 4cil 2.8 2006 standard, realice el escaneo de la unidad, y me arrojó el código p0017 ya verifique el sensor del arbol de levas, tiene el negativo correcto 12 de tierra o negativo, el positivo 3 voltios, el cable rosa con negro si hace el cambio de voltaje cuando gira el árbol de levas 0.20 a 2.27 voltios, igual el cigüeñal solo tiene 2 cables el rosa y el amarillo el voltaje en el amarillo tiene 2.5 a 3 voltios y de rosa que es la señal que genera va de 0.17-0.20 a 2.25 voltios. La válvula vvt como podría diagnósticarla en lo personal para mi esta haciendo la falla usted que me diría Gracias y disculpe la molestia.

Hi Steve, I have a 2008 Subaru STI. I got this code after I replaced my short block. I do have a new timing belt, oil pump, & water pump. The OCV are clean and do work. The sensors are cleaned and not contaminated. The car does turn on without any issues then my check engine light turns on with only a P0017 code error. I can't for the life of me figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@marleymarley it's not the o2 sensor. I just did another oil change and rechecked the variable timing sensor and re cleaned them. The engine light was off then once the car was warmed up the check engine light came back on.

Getting p0017 code and have already did oil change, and crankshaft position sensor, have a tick in top part of motor somewhere and not familiar with possible causes at this point other than camshaft position sensors and the oil control valve(? New one to me also)

@@nondainc I had the P0016 AND -P0017. Now all that is on is the P0017. i have the check engine light,VSC and Trac control light on dash. It is a 2009 toyota venza V6. I have taken it to 3 seperate toyota dealerships and they seem to attemp to fix it with no sucess. MONEY PIT!!!. i have also had 3 friend mechanices replace things . At this point i have to assume it's a stretched timing chain,or a loose wire,or some solenoid that is dirty,i honestly have no idea,i spent to much money to have lights on in my car. I litteraly took it to 3 toyota dealerships. I AM BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE. i bought it for 15,000!$ Sunk 10,000$ into it within the first 6 months,and it STILL has the same error code,i am beyond frustrated,dissapointed with toyota and feel SO DEFEATED.

Kindly check if the timing is properly aligned or the condition of the reluctor is okay. Also, the harness leading to and from the Crank/Cam sensors should be inspected.

Hello, have you checked the condition of the timing belt? We also suggest checking all the wiring harness leading to/from the cam/crank sensor.

I tolk my tk to a chevy garage with a p0017 thay told me .my engine needed rebuild cost about $2500.00 .thanks to utube I tolk mine out and cleaned it runs like new now..

They’re telling me the same thing on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra.. and they charged me $600 to give an oil change and a coil lock something or something and they said it didn’t fix the issue and gave me the car back..

I just had mine at the shop for a faulty crank position sensor. They also said something about correlation and I think the code was po0017. They said I need a timing chain. I am gonna try the stuff in this video and see if it helps.

Care to explain why an oil change would fix this problem?

Hello, extremely low or wrong engine oil could trigger this code so oil level and condition must be good. Full of clean, correct viscosity oil is a must to prevent this code from appearing.

@@nondainc have 2007 cadiilac sts brought it in march had check engine light come on 2months later said p0017 code but light went off oil life was good now at 0% but dont think car had an oil change when i got it just maybe they reset oil life but now light is staying on so should i start with oil change and also car cut off twice in same day 1st time every doing that put cranks fine no different noises from when 1st got it

Hi Sherri, kindly check the wiring/harness (to and from the crank/cam sensors) for visible damage. Test the sensors if functioning properly, check the timing chain if aligned/properly installed or if you may have jumped few teeth. Lastly, check if you may have a bad reluctor ring.

Hello, there are numbers of causes that triggers this code so you need to do some diagnostic work to know the solution. Please inspect the camshaft and crankshaft harnesses for frayed/broken wires and repair or replace them. Check the camshaft and crankshaft patterns, this way you can identify if you have a bad sensor or a slipping tone ring. Also make sure that the timing chain/belt are correctly lined up, not loose or stretched.

@@nondainc Thank you. I checked the resistance of the new camshaft sensors, and both new ones were bad. Put old ones back in. I was trying to fix a rough idle when warm, no codes, and throwing parts at it. Changed throttle body, MAF & MAP sensors, injectors, coils, spark plugs, o2 sensors, camshaft sensors, checked the copper wire running thru the junction block when warm, double checked the BCM re: the Dielectric grease Service Bulletin, and brake booster check valve Now I have these codes c0561, c0899, c0242, and was considering new wheel bearings bc i think that’s the only way to change tone ring on this malibu; not sure yet.

I have a p0017 I pray it's not something serious I just brought this car

Hello, we suggest checking the condition of the engine oil, check the oil level, inspect the camshaft oil control valve, and the crankshaft/camshaft position sensor. A replacement on the mentioned parts might be necessary.
