Thank you for this video! I'm ditiching streaming for a variety of reasons and refreshing my self-hosted library. When I discovered that CDDB was no longer a real option, I fell down the Musicbrainz rabbit hole. Picard is rather daunting and none of the other videos really cover usage in any depth. Thank you! I ripped my entire CD collection with Microsoft Media Player ( 15 GB) to mp3 format . I put every CD album into it's own subdirectory. My Sony music player gives the "dreaded “Unknown Artist: and “Track 1” for the first track in every album, the others seem fine... so far. None of the albums have the artwork. Anyway, your software solution looks like a fix to this. I am still going to try and program it because there may be a thousand or so CD subdirectories involved.

why do we copy the music in the first step? Just to have a back-up if the files are not correctly converted? Is MusicBrainz Picard not always reliable?

Picard itself seems very reliable, but as for any app, there's always a risk - especially because the (User+App) system can be less reliable (e.g. when we have not read and understood or remembered our config settings and their implications). I also take time to label the copy as either SafeCopy or PlayCopy - so I don't forget and get them the wrong way round! Also (of course) a separate backup of my collection to unconnected storage (e.g. external disks). Most professionals agree that media of any importance should be stored in at least three different storage items, never all connected at the same time and at least one of them at a separate physical location (different building/town).

Great video, but you should have put some tips on what to do if Lookup and Scan do not give any results, for instance, in indie music.

They say it works on certain mac books but not all. This is one of the many reasons I don't own a mac, they are too restrictive with what you can do on them.

I have mp3 tag on my Mac, which seems way easier to use. But I'm still running Mojave. If you are running Catalina you will not be able to use mp3tag. Very annoying, yes.

I'm still struggling with some, the explanation seems perfect then when I try to do it it doesnt work lol. I must be doing something wrong but not sure what yet, always seems a different set of tracks available than I have. May try MP3 tag. Thanks anyway very clear instructions.

This is very well explained and I notice you're doing a few songs at a time...what if you have over 50,000 songs? Can picard handle this?

Yes, but there are so many albums with the same song they may not be in the Album you think it should be.

i have some issues, in the past i was able to download songs from YT and the tags were present, recently i tried and most if not all of the songs i have downloaded have no tags, im loading the MP3 to musicbrainz and under uncluster there is a "no entry" symbol next to the song, i tried scanning but getting the "could not load album". i followed your video but alas, not getting it. :(

Hi - THANK YOU for this tutorial it was very helpful. My issue is the the tags to not seem to be writing. Nothing shows up in file explorer title, album, year.... It will show up under new tags, but not in explorer. I also opened them up in MP3Tag and they are black there also - any ideas? I do have write tags to files checked. Thanks in advance!

I am sorry. I do not understand your problem. If you follow all my steps in the video you can tag your music to be ordered on your phone, tablet etc... this is the point of the video.

For those of us who create music in a digital audio workstation like Pro Tools or Logic and we download at a higher rate than 16bit/44.1kHz, like 24 bit/96kHz, are you able to do that with this software and if you have created your own cover and have it in jpg form, are you able to use it?

do we need to create an account before we can use the program to fix the tags? I tried to follow your video and it didn't work for me. When I click on scan to scan files without metadata, I don't get new information on the right hand side of MB Picard. (My internet connection works fine).

i listen to chicano rap latin rap it wont work for me did everything u said i just want the numbers change name tags they dont have numbers labeled before the name of the song so its all mix matched everywhere any help on that?

make sure to watch from 4:06 and tick boxes - 'move files when saving' and 'delete empty directories'.

I just downloaded MusicBrainz Picard today. I have Windows version 2.5.6 running. Is that the latest? My version does NOT have the ribbon bar that you show in the View menu at 0:50

@@TeflDude wait a minute - are you in the MusicBrainz app or Windows 10 File Explorer? I'm thinking you are in File Explorer with some black skin added. The standard Windows 10 theme would have made this more intuitive about what you were doing.

you need to go to "look up in browser" icon and follow instructions from 33:43 in this video

I've tried running this, but no tags get populated..... The only tag that shows up is "Length" and nothing else..... What could cause this, and how can I fix it? (This is for all files, not just certain albums or tracks.)

There is so much information you are not saying. What is your pc? what is your OS version? What do your music files look like, What info exists if any already. Are they Mp3, flac, wav etc...? Make a video of you trying to install and use the program and then I can help you.

Just wondering. After you scan the files and they show up on the right. Why do some files show up highlighted pink/light red? Or is it nothing Important.

I never had that happen. Remember you can always modify the result by using MP3Tag, which I also made a video about.

Type %genre%/ somewhere in the file naming tab. The %genre% part sorts music by genre, and putting the backslash sorts it in to its own folder.

Use Mp3tag to do this. Go to my video... "How to add tags to mp3 audio files using mp3tag". - kzread.info/dash/bejne/ioNp0Ztmprm6dZc.html - go to part "Convert tag to filename (20:57)" Highlight all tracks, and then click on "Convert Tag to Filename" (Alt+1). Then in the box Format string: BOX, type only - %title% - and press ok.

YES, it computes acoustic fingerprints of any music file you throw at it and finds the correct meta data, even if there are no metadata or file names at all to work with. It is in fact the software (and organization) that invented AcoustID, aka "fingerprinting".

There wasn`t a plugins folder in the Win root directory?????

Sir I am using MP3 Tag. There is a provision for inserting the name of the composer but there is no provision to put the name of the lyrics writer. Is it possible to create. Kindly advise. Regards.

phones do not have separate file system for eps - just lable the album as an ep

All virus scanners (your one I have never heard of - so it is probably a scam to buy it) are now useless and no one needs to buy them, win 10 has its own. Anti-virus software now sells your data to companies - nothing is free, they are desperate for you to buy their rubbish. Believe what you will. Don't use it.

NOTE: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY MUSIC TAGGING PROGRAMS Can someone please please PLEASE HELP ME OUT..... Why is it that when I back up my music files from iTunes to another drive some files lose their tag info? I have 8,800 songs and 1,500 of them lose Artist,Album & Genre When saving to another drive. itunes is nightmare - i use imazing prog

Why is it so complicated? 20 years ago in winamp I would literally just click a button and the entire album would auto scan and autofill all the tracks.

yes 20 years ago when there were hardly many bands or albums to choose from. It is harder because of trying to shift through the volume of work that is now available.

The Artist Nowadays Release song as Single, Then Put it in Album, Then A Deluxe Version of Album, The same song is Present in Movies OST Album, And After few Years The same song is in Best of (Artist Name), Anniversary additions like Recovery by Eminem is released again in 2020 Resulting in Multiple Albums, Album Arts and Metadata This confuses most of software resulting in lack of accuracy

How do you save just the cover without rewriting all the tags?

You cannot do track covers - only album covers. If you put all the tracks under 1 album name then that's how it works.

Tried to watch it, far too much zooming in and out, sorry, had to abandon it

Thanks for the comment. I never thought of the zooming as being annoying. I did it because on too many videos you can never clearly see what the guy is doing or clicking on. I shall keep it in mind for future videos.
