First off, do NOT use water. If the injector seals (plastic rings around injector) are not tight, the water will get into the engine and start rusting. If you have to check it, use a thin oil.

My 250 cdi had injector issues. Then I filled the tank with Total Fina diesel. They sell only one high grade diesel mix. My car immediately ran smoother and quieter and no more surprise injector problems. Now I only use Total Fina And the car loves it. Now, at 225k km, its time to pull, clean, and re-seat all four. The injectors are fine. Just micro-leaks at the copper seal. I'm going to let mercedes do the work for the warranty and they are really good and thorough.

Had a similar problem on the same engine (W203-CDI) only to find my injector cracked. after fixing the injector, the injector holder bolt damaged the threads and can't hold the injector. any suggestions please help

Water testing, interest idea I'll check that way too. I replaced the fuel lines and smell went away, cleaned up the whole area but after a short drive found diesel fuel on top of one injector. Also today saw a drop come off the front of the fuel pump which is a bigger concern TDI ALH

How does this problem present in symptoms in a modern diesel. Will it affect data across modules?

Do you need to bleed the fuel line once finished?

No need,since it's just one injector, the other injectors will still fire n the one which was removed will bleed itself as the engine runs

Actually what he should have done before even removing injector. You take to a car wash and pressure wash top of engine, buy a can of engine cleaner spray on top of head, let it soak for 5-7 min. Then rense with high pressure washer. I owen a MB 300SD 1983 turbo diesel. I perform all my maintence. His method of locating leaking copper ring, is fine, I use a spray can of carburator cleaner.

Hi and thanks for your comment. The only parts that were replaced were the copper ring that goes to the bottom of the injector hole and the bolt which I was removing in 2:34. I used that same old bolt to clean the injector hole by cutting a slot on it and screwing it in and out in the hole. This collects the dirt from the hole into the slot. In this situation the only parts that need to be replaced every time are the copper ring and the bolt. I mentioned about replacing them in 4:26. Hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for the comment! There is such a high pressure in the cylinder, dozens of bars, that water cannot flow into the cylinder. A leaking injector only causes those air bubbles. Of course, you should always dry off the water with a rag before starting to disassemble the parts. And always remember to clean the injector hole properly. But overall using water does not cause any problems.

Get the engine hot first. Loosen the bolt by a few turns, but leave it in. The injector might loosen itself as you drive around. There is a slide hammer that you can get as well. Mine came out with malgrips and a wiggle.
