As a jeep mechanic it is very common for radiators to leak on the top driver side corner..also i always use the bleeder screw just dont over tight i use that same coolant funnel till thermostat opens always use the mopar pre diluted coolant no need for distilled water..ive seen all brands of aluminum radiators also leak. oil coolers always leak at the shop we've been installing aluminum oil cooler housing...one more thing ive found new jeeps low miles with sand in the cooling system very common on sand casted engine blocks when they dont get washed properly from manufacturer..for the ones that put big ass heavy tires with all the overland stuff you need to regear that takes alot of stress off ur motor..and dont use cheap gas. You dont want to over heat these motors the heads can warp very easy just off that first over heat ive done so many head gaskets on these 3.6

For sure…all this stuff it’s definitely true. It’s kind of funny how many people throw in larger tires and don’t regear or try to get away with not regearing. It just hurts your motor and trans. I don’t buy the pre diluted stuff though…I buy the concentrate because I get more out of it for the money. Plus the system holds two gallons. So when I flush it..it’s easy to pour a gallon of concentrate in and then a gallon of water.

I changed out my thermostat for a different temperature thermostat 180° it’s helped my jeep tremendously. The temperature of the Jeep will still get over 200° but the thermostat opens at 180°. You’ll still use the same thermostat housing you don’t even have to take the hose off. You just take the two bolts and remove the housing from the motor and then the thermostat kind of twist out of the housing that you already have and the new one goes in and then you just put the two bolts back and you’re done. Part number you were looking for is this : MMTS-WRA-12 made by Mishimoto

Yea. So I have ran that thermostat. It took longer for the jeep to get up to temp…but didn’t actually make it run any cooler. The fan is still programmed the same. So on hot days…it still got up to temp and stayed there. It just took longer to get there. It might be different if you live in a colder climate. But the only thing it did was take longer to get to temp. It also didn’t last a year before it went bad on me.

@@WarPaintOffroad I’m in the DFW area. The forecast is looking like 95-100° days this week.. We will see, this is a daily driver for me. If I keep having issues, I will take out the radiator and replace it with a 3-4 core. And if that doesn’t work next will be the water pump.

@@WarPaintOffroad I was only having problems at highway speed. I was not having any problems at idle or parking at a stoplight or anything like that. It was always when I got on the highway and got over 55 miles an hour when it would start getting hot on me..

@@WarPaintOffroad one trick I want to try is using a fog machine. I was told that was a fast way to find the leak but I haven't got a chance to test that one yet.

I never got a code, but mine would climb to almost in the red zone on steep climbs up here in the mountains, as soon as I changed the thermostat to the Mahle one it has been rock solid!

  • @WarPaintOffroad

Awesome! Yea the code is usually due to the thermostat failing and failing in the open position. When it takes too long to warm up it will throw that code. But wether you have the issue we did, or the too cold issue, it needs a thermostat! Glad you got it fixed!

Until last month my 2015 wrangler sport unlimited 3.6 never went over the half way mark .now it slams the gauge My factory one opens at 222° and thats when the fan comes on ,then the fan shuts off at 213°i changed my T.I.P.M ,water pump ,2 china made thermostats because they never opened 🙄 motor pro brand is junk . I replaced both relays for the electric fan .i ended up buying a gates thermostat ,thats what the dealership uses now for the past year due to back ordered O.E.M thermostats. it is made in china but ill know if its any good tomorrow cross your fingers . Bottom line is the jeep should never run hotter then the hair over the half way mark on the gauge .P.S YOU NEED TO PURGE THE AIR OUT OF THE PURGE SCREW ON THE HOUSEING
