" Key Not Detected ” is displayed If the presence of the key cannot be detected (dead battery, battery malfunction, no key), it is displayed when the driver attempts to start the engine (push button start operation, brake pedal depression). Displayed when it is determined that a key that was in the vehicle has been removed from the vehicle. (Key taken out warning. Other than IG-OFF).

Thank you for this video. My Kia cerato 2013 shows the key light and the car won't start. Its push start button. Sometimes when it starts, it will switch off. Sometimes when it starts, you can drive and then while on speed or anywhere the key sign appears on the dashboard and the engine shuts down. After 2-3minutes of switching off the car, it will start and move again. This cycle can repeat many times a day or not at all. It is so frustrating, pls help me. I have been to at least 5 auto electrician in my city and no help in sight

@cherishcherish4873 Replacing a crankshaft sensor. The crankshaft position sensor plays an important role in precisely firing your engine’s ignition and fuel injection. So this isn’t a repair you want to wait on! First off, you’ll need to locate the crankshaft position sensor. This varies from one car to the next, but in most cars you’ll find it near the starter, between the engine and the transmission housing. Some cars have it on the front of the engine, requiring the removal of one or two serpentine belts. Once you’ve found its location (be sure you aren’t confusing it with the camshaft sensor!), you’ll want to do the following: Disconnect the negative battery terminal. The crankshaft position sensor is electrical, and you can hurt yourself and damage the car if you don’t. In some cars, you may need to remove the starter to access the crankshaft position sensor. This only applies to some makes and models. Unplug the sensor’s cable and make sure you keep the contacts on that cable clean. Remove the mounting bolt with a socket wrench, or just loosen it up and remove it with your fingers. Remove the old sensor, which should pop right out. In some cars this can get frustrating given how and where it’s positioned, but it can be done! Compare the old and new sensors to make sure they’re the same. You may not be able to take the new sensor back if you already tried installing it. Install the new sensor and the new o-ring it came with. Reverse these steps to install your new sensor, and don’t use that grubby old o-ring, either. The new sensor should have come with a new o-ring, and you’ll want to be sure to use it. Simultaneously wiggling the wheel left and right should help unlock both locks. You should hear a little click sound, that tells you the steering is now unlocked. @AmitYadav-yp1ev How to Fix Many immobilizer problems can be fixed simply by simply replacing the battery in the key fob. Many transponder keys depend on a small battery to relay the security code to the car immobilizer. Be careful replacing the battery so you don’t accidentally damage the transponder chip inside. If you’ve replaced the battery and it still doesn’t work, you may have some type of damage to the transponder chip. In this case, you will have to contact your local car dealership and request a new key. They are not cheap to replace so be prepared to shell out a hundred or even a few hundred dollars for a new key. Usually, the more expensive the vehicle, the more a replacement key fob will cost. If the actual immobilizer system in the vehicle is to blame, then it could be due to the wires being corroded or damaged. Perhaps the engine control unit or its sensors are malfunctioning or faulty. These situations would require you to go to a car dealership or auto repair shop that specializes in electronics for further troubleshooting.

The indicator light stops flashing after the registered key has been inserted into the engine switch to indicate that the system has been canceled. The indicator light stops flashing after the engine switch has been turned to ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON MODE to indicate that the system has been canceled.

My Toyota Mark 2, the key fod was broken and got lost. I only have the key without the key fod. Trying to start the engin but no luck. Any advise

@Dashboardwarninglights Thanks for the link...I only have the metal key without with remote/sensor on it. That's why I am trying but it needs the sensor/remote but I don't have the remote/sensor on the key. Is there any other way I can do and bypass the security and start.

Mine has 2001 saxo has the key light and some reason oil light and battery light all flashing when I try to start it and won’t start at all and all the lights flash any idea please mate ?? It started up fine a week a couple weeks ago but it’s been sat for a few months same key and everything

Hello @cesarhernandezbarraga, I hope the following assists you, this is quite a common concern as is due to an instrument cluster internal fault. The instrument cluster is also a control module and the gateway between the different speed networks on the car. When you first turn the ignition on the PATS runs through the code check of the key, the keycode is checked by the PCM which checks it with the instrument cluster, when the cluster fault is evident then the cluster can't confirm the code to the PCM so the PATS remains active, the red LED will flash to confirm this and the engine won't start. The PATS keycode is only checked at ignition on, if the cluster fault is evident while driving the car the immobiliser is already deactivated but as there is a fault the immobiliser LED will flash. The engine management warnings comes as the electronic throttle pedal signals go through the cluster to the engine management, as these signals are lost the PCM sets the engine systems fault warning and the engine usually loses power. Unfortunately there is no company who repairs these clusters yet, replacement is the only option, the new cluster will need to be programmed to the car and the PATS . I hope this helps but if I can assist further let me know and I'll reply as soon as I'm able to.

If you're immobilizer is not working could you still jump the car and start. My daughter's immobilizer light is on clicks but it won't turn and it's a push start

I have a question. My 2006 Toyota Siena Le engine immobilizer/theft deterrent system indicator light is on when I take the key out from the ignition switch after driving. When the key is inserted in the ignition switch and the engine is on , the indicator light is off. Is it ok to drive like that? Thanks for any advice.

Leaving the key in the lock for this time will signal to the immobilizer that you are using the legitimate key to unlock the car. Step 4 - Turn the key both ways - lock and unlock - and this action will bypass and deactivate the engine immobilizer. You need to give the Toyota immobilizer time to recognize the key so the immobilizer can be successfully deactivated. Step 5 - Keep the door in the unlock position and start the engine. The immobilizer should now be reset.

2012 Mitsubishi outlander sport SE- Car ran fine for 1+ hours . Put it in park at the drive thru window ( boycott Burger King ) and apon putting it in drive and attempting to pull off, nearly every light came on including this one. Any thoughts ?

So if the engine iS not ON and thiS symbol is showing amber, there is no problem? My car will not start but this symbol is there, not red nor flashing. Why is this symbol there ?

We’ve compiled a list of steps to troubleshoot your vehicle when your car key isn’t working. • Test the car battery. • Is the security light on or blinking? • Change the battery in the key fob. • Car Battery: The first step is to test your car battery. Often times if the car battery is weak, the vehicle will fail to start or unlock. A tell tail sign of a weak battery is interior lights not turning on or the dashboard not turning on when the key is in the on position or you press the start button. • Security Light: Almost all vehicles have security warning lights somewhere on the dashboard. This warning light can be on the cluster (gauges) or near the radio. The security light is often referred to as the immobilizer light or anti-theft light and can be green, orange or red. It may look like a small key, padlock, or car icon. Often times if the battery in the car or key fob is weak, or if the key is failing, the security light will stay on or blinking. In this situation we recommend contacting a local car locksmith to replace or repair the key. • Key Fob Battery: This mostly applies to push-start vehicles only. This warning light usually only comes on when the key isn’t recognized so you shouldn’t have to worry about this light coming on while you are already driving. If this happens, try taking the key out and reinserting it if you are having trouble getting your car started. If you are experiencing any troubles, check and verify that the key fob isn’t out of power.

If you put the car in neutral, you’ll be able to start the car

@johnqueen8867 On an Automatic Transmission, Park and Neutral is the same, except Park will also lock the wheels so you don't roll. Internally, the transmission is in Neutral for both. You are able to start in Neutral, particularly in cases where you're moving and need to restart your car.
