Even on the original N64, I still use 1.2 Solitaire controls. Something about moving with the C-buttons and aiming with the analog stick just feels right to me on the original controller, even if the hands are swapped.

Dude because of this game I had to re learn how to aim when I got a PlayStation because I was used to aiming with the left stick haha
Thanks , I needed this and it works so much better now in game.
Thank you so much for this Alex!! This saved my joy for this game!
I knew this was the place to go to help me out with this! I used your remapping and it's great! Thanks a ton Nintendo Life!
The main issue is what can't be changed like the overly sensitive L/R reticle aiming. Not to mention the RCP90s and Magnums don't shoot through the doors the same. They used to leave marks on a wall behind a door. Not anymore.
@hankthetank1563

Yes that is the only thing I hate. It needs options on how your sensitive is when aiming .I have nothing else to complain about

@The RC Scotsman As far as I know it still inflicts damage through doors but it doesn't seem as effective and certainly doesn't leave bullet holes on the other side

Good to know. I always use inverted controls but swapping sticks on Switch menu is a good idea.
Thank you so much man made my day just got the n64 on the switch and was so mad at the controls i played this on my cousins 64 few years back and the controls legit took the fun out of it
I’ve been playing with the default controls. Got used to them during the first mission. I did play it a lot on the N64

Exactly. If people want to remap the controls, it’s fine. But it’s definitely not unplayable as is. It’s just takes some getting used to.

@@lerp5555 Try swapping the dpad buttons with the x,y,a,b ones, it'll be just like the originals c-button, feels great. Basically, I have the left analog to move and turn, x,y,a,b to look up/down and strafe. I think it's as close to the original's controls as possible.
This video is a godsend. Thank you so much!
This saved my gameplay! Thanks a million!
I'm actually surprised at how well switching hands for the joy-cons works. Such a blast to play this game again in 2023!
Thank you for this video it help alot!!
That sounds like a good idea. I'll try it. Can't get my hands on N64 🎮 so this is what I needed.

I would highly recommend swapping ZL to L, ZR to ZL. I would also recommend you swap L to B and finally R to A!
I didn't know this can be done. Cool, the ZR button is not working very well, so this is a good workaround. Thank you
Thank you very much, I figured this problem could be solved but that it would be a huge pain in the arse. It's still a bit of a pain that you have to go to the switches mapping and switching each time you want to play the game which is what I have had to do with the NES set up changing my B to the Y and the a to the B. I can't wait to try it, thanks again
Oh Alex. Thank you so much for doing this video. It is essential. I've already done it thanks to people in Nintendo Life's wonderful comments section.
nice thank you for the guide :)
Thank you so much. Swapping the sticks really made the game playable again.
This is interesting. I'll have to give it a try.
Thank you so much!!
Thx soo much, these controls are way better
Okay the shooting the subscribe button was hilarious tho
As soon as I started the game I knew someone would make a video about the controls
Thank you!!! I had given up playing until I saw this video.

Amazing guys thank you!!
Great! Thank you!
My big issue is that the default controls “Honey” were made with the one stick and C-Buttons in mind, not a Twin-stick pro controller.

yeah but clearly in the original they allowed multiple control types so everyone SHOULD be able to find their fit, especially now with the switch button remapping.

This video is the proof that the modern gamer just doesn't know how to use an analog stick, this game's controls are one of the most precise I've ever experienced (alongside Super Mario 64 and other N64 titles), the way you play this game is by measuring how much of the analog stick you need to make the correct moves. Nowadays people seems to use analog sticks as if it were a D-Pad, you just push 100% to a direction and release it, people forget about that basic concept of "move slightly to make the character walk, move slight more and the character will run", this part here in 3:20 it's very clear the guy playing doesn't know how to use an analog stick and kept aiming as if it were a D-Pad, just tapping instead of actually measuring how much you have to push (that's the reason why the cursor is not locked to the center, it's supposed to indicate clearly the range of how much you're pushing the analog stick, but people just throw the stupid excuse of "oh it aged badly lol developers didn't know how to do things yet"). It's not all the player's fault tho since nowadays analog stick have decreased heavy in precision quality and doesn't match the same way an original N64 controller does (not even the Switch version of the N64 controller is 100% accurate)
This is why I bought the N64 controller for Switch
I'm glad this exists for newer players, but I don't think there's any fixing needed. I've used inverted controls for every FPS I've played...
Oddly, I actually got used to the "Honey" controls. In fact, the way it automatically faces down a bit when going down stairs, and such is kinda helpful.
Get left joy-con registered as player 2 and right joy-con as player 1. Select controller setup 2.2 Galore. This is the only way to get true dual analog on the Switch with pure analog sensitivity on both movement and looking.
Fyi. You can save upto 4 button mapping configurations. Save it as 007.
Thank you sir
Wow! Doing this now!
Please note though that changing the sticks around will mean that only the right stick can be used when navigation GoldenEye's menus (luckily both sticks work on the Switch's UI)
I only remapper ZL to ZR took me like a second to get used to the default control scheme. I gotta try thay one.
This. Is. AMAZING
Now I need a video to change it back haha
I am saving and downloading this video for future reference. Thank you ever so fuckin much!
The controls are perfect
I'm gonna need to set it up Turok style.
This game deserves a complete modernization but I'm happy that we got the classic too.

Game devs kept the default goldeneye controls in alot of FPS games as an option all they way up to early last gen. A friend of mine never changed with the times for that whole time and was a beast at Battlefield 4 with goldeneye controls! Idk how the hell he did that.

Apparently some pro controllers don't support button mapping though. When I try, I get "This is not available on this controller" or something to that effect. It's a Nintendo brand controller too. :(
I always play 1st and 3rd person shooters with the Y axis reverse (up is down). For some reason when I press ZL to aim (after remapping the buttons) I keep pressing up on the right joystick to aim upwards. 🤦♂️🤦♂️ When I don't press ZL to aim then I know to press up on the right joystick to aim downwards. I don't know why.
I bought the N64 controller and I will be playing the way I used to play back in 1997.
The inverted controls are perfect I set every game to inverted lol
