HOW TO FIX FLOODED ENGINE | FLOODED SPARK PLUGS

HOW TO FIX FLOODED ENGINE | FLOODED SPARK PLUGS
► Our Website: mechaniclifesty...
Hey guys, so as you know we got this Audi TT to build and we started it for a short period of time so many times for a few seconds with the the first oxygen sensor not being in place because the exhaust flex pipe is broken as a result we flooded the engine. Wet spark plugs = no spark = no start. We covered the procedure how to remove the spark plugs burn them and clean them.

Auto Repair Guys hey would a flooded engine cause it to seize? My car was trying to crank but wouldn’t start said all 4 cylinders were misfiring. I changed plugs and coils but it still only cranks and won’t start ! Towed it to a garage and they called me back saying the motor is seized and they can’t turn it by hand either way! Said I needed a new engine, but it cranked fine before it got towed!! Any ideas? Sane ideas!

Well, you can do this only to be able to start the engine and go to the repair shop, because it will flood again. There are three flood sources: coolant, oil and gas. If it is coolant, you have head gasket problems, if it is oil, you have piston rings problems, and if it is gas you could have injectors, fuel pump or temperature sensor problems.

Sounds like that would work or: Why can't you just hold each plug with pliers and burn off gas with a lighter? I used to do this, seemed to work...went from no start to starting... If you have a torch fine, use it but many don't have one or are away from home...same thing with spark plugs, if you have new ones, fine put them in... I mean sometimes one is stranded and can't just go out and buy plugs, or a torch... I do however keep lighters and a socket set in my vehicles...

My 2010 Nissan Versa wouldn’t start, so I had it towed. The garage said my engine was flooded. They burned off the excess fuel and got it to start. They haven’t been able to determine the exact cause of the flooding, but they said I should replace all 4 spark plugs, since they got soaked, and since I have 78,000 miles on the car and I’m close to the 90K mile recommended replacement of spark plugs, anyway. I’m afraid if I do this, the flooding will just recur. What should I do?

Just for everyone’s info- a VERY common cause of a flooded engine (with no apparent explanation as to why it has occurred) is if, for example, you get in your car to move it out of someone’s way, and then turn off BEFORE the temperature gauge has risen out of the ‘blue’ section. Jaguars are especially prone to this problem, with other marques, and can then be a nightmare to start.

You seem informative would you happen to be able to help me. So my car has been absolutely fine the past couple of months and I had new spark plugs and leads put in 4 months ago. However today I was going 30mph and all of a sudden my check engine started flashing then went off and I felt a loss of power. This loss of power continued as I literally went round the corner to my house but the engine light stayed off. As I checked spark plugs the cylinder head where all 4 spark plugs are kept is flooded with a puddle of water all across the head. Definitely isn’t engine oil I’ve checked. My car is a Ford fiesta 2011 mk7

@@adamrobson7889 Hello Adam. Mk7 Fiestas are known to have water leaks from the water pump (timing belt side of the engine of course) after a few years. This may well throw a brief check engine light. Flashing would indicate water/ steam reaching the catalytic converter. It’s possible water could have seeped through the plug threads, but unlikely. It would need checking with a OBD2 reader to find pending/ stored codes. Is it a 1.0 Ecoboost? Did it use coolant? It will need a more in depth check.

@@torehelmersson1989 hi no it’s a 1.25l edge . Had the water drained and dried out the spark plugs. The car runs fine and starts fine, but the car is still stuttering and doesn’t feel performance wise 100%. The codes read random misfire on plug 2 but after the RAC mechanic left he said the codes were fine and he checked engine pressure and output and everything seemed fine. I then got advice from another mechanic who said a core plug may have gone bad and thus the water managed to get in, he also said a plug or lead could’ve corroded or gone bad therefore it isn’t sparking/igniting properly. He also said the coil pack could be on its way out. It wouldn’t suprise me with the core plug as it has been raining and freezing a lot recently. I’m getting it checked out in the next few days.

@@thehomiegooof - Wow, you went through all that? Here is what I've learned and I will share it with you. My Dad's Honda was flooded. Here is what I found out. Although it may not be your case, but worth a shot in the future. Under your Valve Cover, there are SEALS in there. Those seals get collapsed, due to heat. What you need to do is get another set, glue that on top of the OLD seal. This will "double" the layers and make it thicker. This will prevent the Oil Leaks into your Plugs. NOTE: If you try this method and it doesn't work. You have Oil Head Gasket Leaks and you will know 100% after trying what I described above. REMEMBER... Valve Cover Gasket is cheap, give it a try. 99% of these folks on KZread or the Internet have NOT try what I've described above and there is NO video on it either. I made a video a while back, I will upload it later.... Due to the pandemic, I was so busy doing things. But that is how I solved my Dad's problem and now NO MORE LEAKS :)))))))))))))).

Then crank car with all plugs removed so water will come out spark plug holes. Then put plugs back then your good to go. But if you saw water in trans fluid and oil. Drain and put new.

Exactly how was this thing flooded? Submerged?

  • @say11911

    @say11911

    7 жыл бұрын

Definitely submerged - and from the water in the cylinders, done so while running. The wires going to the coils show big signs of sitting in water, the glazed look to the color coded wires. All colored wires do that when water is on them, they lose their "deep color hue" and glaze over. This has every sign of a salvage title car - flood damage. When diagnosing a flood damage salvage title car, check the oil to see if it is chocolate milk color. That is a clear indication of water/oil mixing - not good. Air filter is another clear indication car was running or high submersion with smell/corrosion/mold. Check inside car, look for water in cup holders, papers in glove box, trunk where spare tire is, water in door compartments, water line on exterior of car, fading of seats to determine how far the water got up to. The car in this video is not worth fixing, in America you would be very lucky to get it registered again.

Probably should have replaced the oil a 2nd times honestly. Get all that's old stuff out for sure. Small amounts of water may have stayed in the engine and possibly pooled in an area for a while as the small amounts collected, then when that amount was pushed along it was too much for the cylinders to handle due to water not being able to compress

Why not just buy new spark plugs? Would that be better for novices?

You still want to try to find the root cause of the flooding, otherwise you may be in the same situation again unfortunately.
