This video offers a fix for the issue 'Replace new Imaging unit' that many printers, including Samsung, encounter. It's a problem of planned obsolescence, meaning that the imaging unit fails because the manufacturer sets a maximum number of copies for that component, not because it has stopped functioning.
You can find all the steps in the video. To resolve the problem, all you need is a 56 ohm resistor, which costs just a few cents.
If you want a better understanding of why this error occurs and its solution, you can read the following article on our website:
USA: elvirusdelacur...
UK: elvirusdelacur...
DE: elvirusdelacur...
The article addresses the following frequently asked questions:
- Does this trick work for my printer model?
- What should I do if I already have two resistors on the support (plastic part)?
- Can I use a resistor other than 56 Ω?
- What if I don't have the support (plastic part) for the resistors?
- Where can I purchase everything mentioned?
Feel free to ask any questions, and we welcome any suggestions you may have.

Same here. My C430W did not come with the chip and the technique still worked! I was able to carefully tape the resistor the correct two pins, put everything back in, powered up the system, the system burnt out the resistor, and then I took out the burnt resistor. It worked perfectly.

This works! Be sure to watch the whole video - you will need to remove the BURNED 56 Ohm resistor. I had a 47 Ohm and a 10 Ohm that I combined in series to create a 57 Ohm resistor, which worked just fine.

This video is awesome. This fix worked on my Samsung Xpress C410W today and hopefully saved me £75-£110 on a replacement part. My imaging unit didn't have the plastic bit with resistor in the front and only had a space instead. I simply soldered a bit of wire onto each end of a 47 ohm resistor I scavenged out of a junk PCB and wrapped the ends of the wires around each of the two contacts inside the door. After a few moments of a disconcerting burning smell, I switched the machine off, opened the front door and removed the wires from the contacts. Upon powering up the printer, the red flashing light of doom was no more and the problem was solved. Miraculously, the print quality is much better than it was beforehand making me wonder if Samsung had deliberately set the imaging to start deteriorating prior to the imaging unit hitting its intended max number of prints.

Can someone post a video or pictures of what you did with a C410W? I want to fix mine but I don’t understand the lingo. I understand buying a resistor but I don’t understand where to tape it since there is no magic chip. Please help! I don’t want to buy a new printer, I just got ink for it and I don’t want to fall prey to planned obsolescence of the imager. 😊

Hi, I don't have a video but hope my explanation will help. When you open the front of the printer to access the printer cartridges, you will see that each cartridge has 4 flat metal contacts that press against 4 metal springy contacts in the door of the printer. You should also see that there is a pair of these springy contacts at the bottom of the door below the others that don't match any contacts from the printer cartridges. These are the contacts that press against the 'magic switch' some people refer to, that my printer did not have. Instead, I wrapped some wire that I had soldered to the ends of the resistor to each of these two springy contacts so the resistor was wired across the contacts, and when I closed the printer door and switched it on, there was a momentary smell of burning and then the printer reset itself so it could resume printing again. A year later my printer is working brilliantly although I'll soon have to find a couple of replacement cartridges. It took me a leap of faith to interfere with my machine but I am so pleased I did because I saved myself a couple of hundred British pounds and the hassle of finding an installing a new machine. I can't guarantee this fix will work for you like it did for me but I am pleased I was brave enough to try. Good luck. Paul

Fabulous fix, thank you so much. My Samsung Express C430W printer didn't have the 'magic chip' so I just wound the 'legs' of the resistor round the two prongs in the cover that would have contacted the 'magic chip' had it been present. Replaced the toner cartridges and closed the front door. There was a small puff of smoke and a smell of electrical burning, which was somewhat disconcerting, but on reopening, removing the burnt out resistor and reassembling everything, and then closing the front panel, the printer sprung to life and immediately started printing the stack of documents stuck in the printer queue. WORD OF WARNING THOUGH: The black plastic thing attached to the side of the printer (about 0.04 seconds in) is a repository for waste toner. Don't turn this upside down or try to replace it upside down - the waste toner in it goes everywhere, including in your open drawers of stationery, on your new pale beige carpet, and all over your cargo pants and white trainers. A million thanks to El Virus de la Curiosidad

The construction is very similar to the Samsung one in this video, however there is no "small drawer" or "magic chip" in there, so I have tried to mount 330ohm resistor (I didn't find 56ohm one) directly on the pins and IT WORKS!!! :) :) :) Thanks man for inspiration!

Awesome video. Thanks. Just copied this repair methode and it is up & running. In addition, the reason was the imagine unit waste reservoir was full. So before I mounted the resistor, brought the machine outside ;-) I drilled a couple of holes on top of the unit, emptied it as much as possible, closed it with tape, used air pressure to clear all waste powder in & outside the machine and reinstalled imagine unit, side reservoir and 4 color cartridges. Now it prints like its new ;-)

This video is super useful for me, thank you! I have a different printer - HP Color Laser 150nw with the imaging drum W1120A. It looks exactly the same except it does not have the chip at all. But it has the two pins on the front door so the chip is kinda expected to be there. What I did is that I connected a resistor (330 Ohm - the only one I have, no particular meaning in the value) to the two pins on the front door for a couple of minutes. Nothing happened to the resistor and when I started the printer without it the lifetime of the imaging unit was back to 100%. You might want to add it to the website so people know that it works also for HP printers and even without the chip.

I used a 56 ohms 1/2 watt resistor on my CLX-3300 and it did work to reset the Imaging unit counter although I didn't have the error message yet, just a warning to prepare a new imaging unit. BUT with a 1/2 watt resistor, less current flows through and I had to leave it in place for 5 minutes before an error message said the door was not closed properly. Then only I removed the resistor (unburnt). For those who don't have the resistor, you can try the other comment bellow about using Tech mode to reset the counters!

The watt rating of the resistor (in your case 1/2 watt) has nothing to do with how much current will flow through the resistor. That has to do with Voltage and Resistance value. Just use the OHM's law equations (U=voltage, R=impedance, i=currrent). The wattage is then a product of Voltage x Amperage and it implies the power rating of the system with the given parameters. If you put a small resistor vs a large one it may burn out in a volatile fashion if it couldn't handle the amount of power.

My CFX480FW did not have a chip box but I read in an earlier comment that you could use a 56 ohm resistor on the two electrodes in the door facing the chip box location. Then I went into Menu>System Setup>Maintenance>Image Mgr>Message>Off, and voila, the message went away and imaging worked. Which action did the job I don't know but Good luck!

I gave up after several attempts, removed the 56ohm resistor, put everything back together and the problem was gone! It is now working on original undamaged drum! Very weird. Wow! Well that worked! I’m not sure of the theory behind it, does the 56 ohm resistor cause something to burn off of the imaging unit? I see the resistor that you put the 56 ohm resistor in parallel with is a 100 kilo ohm resistor. So I know the 56 ohm resistor causes the current to go way up somewhere. Then the 56 ohm resistor burns. You smell it. Then you take the 56 ohm resistor out (no soldering required) . But I wonder what else burns(?) Thanks for the video! I was skeptical at first, but then I figured I have nothing to loose so I tried it. I had a red led on the printer for a while, but the printer still worked. Then I got the image unit error massage last night. Now, after doing your repair, even the red led is back to green. Thanks again.

IDK given that some people are using 1/2 watt resistor so that it doesn't burn out. Maybe they didn't actually test it out?

@@user-yo9hj2yb3r As long as the resistor value is around 56Ω it will work. With resistors R1 and R2, if connected in series the resulting total is R1+R2. If connected in parallel the total is: 1/R total = 1/R1 + 1/R2. Of course, in parallel, the calculation is easier when both R values are the same: R total = (R1 + R2)/2 (just like the example above by drabisko2)

Hello XXX, You can do two things: 1. Buy that little chip thing and you will have it forever: Amazon: www.elvirusdelacuriosidad.com/amazon-usa/clt-r406 Ebay: www.elvirusdelacuriosidad.com/ebay-usa/chip-clt-r406 Aliexpress: www.elvirusdelacuriosidad.com/aliexpress/chip-clt-r406 2. Connect the resistor directly to the terminals on the front cover of the printer that should make contact with the chip. I hope this helps :)

My Xpress C460FW does not have the plastic Magic Chip block. After reading the article by EI Virus de la Curiosidad "another solution that some have tried is to connect the resistor directly to the terminals of the printer cover, which are the ones that should touch that part if it were on." I had a try and worked for me. Normally, when turning on the printer, after the System Initializing, it displays "Replace Image Unit" msg. It can also be seen in Printer Utility. What I tried are as below: 1. Turn off the printer, then turn it on after few seconds. 2. During the System Initializing, open the front cover, use a metal paper clip to connect the two pins on the front cover at the most bottom. (I think using a 56 ohm resistor may work too, more safe. EI mentioned it can be 0~100 ohm.) 3. Close the front cover. The System Initializing will continue, but at the end, after a flashing, it goes back to System Initializing again. It will loop this process if you do not do next step. 4. Open the front cover, remove the paper clip you connected to the two pins. 5. System Initializing will continue and completes. It does not display "Replace Image Unit" anymore. Cheers! Then I tried to restart the printer, print a file, all works fine. I did a refresh in Printer Utility, the "Replace Image Unit" msg was gone. This was just what I tried, hope it can help or give a hit to someone, but it is at your risk. Good luck!

hello, i watched the video badly, removed the old resistance and replaced it with a new one. I got a message when I plugged it into the printer: "Error: #C3-6520 Door open/close"when I connected the old resistance as instructed, the printer was still initializing and could not be turned off. Therefore, I disconnected from the mains, dismantled the old resistance and left only a new one, but the message: "Error: #C3-6520 Door open/close" still persists - :( is there any help? Jan

For anyone reading, there is a ~100k ohm resistor alongside the 56 ohm resistor. This 100k resistor does not burn out and should be left in/replaced if removed. The printer is probably failing to detect this 100k resistance and reporting an error.

Looked for me like "hocus pocus" that at the end will kill my printer. Nevertheless I tried it, but what a pitty, I only had a 100 Ohm resistor. But I gave it a change, did the same as in the video and was still distrustful. Switched on the printer, switched it off again after the imaging unit error came up, destructed the printer again as in the video, but the resistor was not burned. Didn't work for me? I restarted the printer and in the meanwhile I used a multimeter to measure the resistance of the resistor: 100 Ohm. Then the printer was started and no error message anymore! I'm so very happy, especially since I have to print a coupon for my nieces birthday. As some one wrote it saved me lots of money, if the replacement is available for purchase at all! Thanks a lot, "El Virus de la Curiosidad"!!! My hint: Use a 100 Ohm resistor, so it won't be damaged and it's perhaps a more common resistor.

Many thanks for the solution, but I found an alternative one without the resistor by using the "tech menu". Go to the tech menu (for my C483W -> kzread.info/dash/bejne/q5NrsauDmZOwoNY.html&ab_channel=ThingsIliketofixmyself) - move to "data setup", then "clear counts", enter passcode (1934), then "imaging unit", the unit will process the change. Onn my side I had to switch off and on the printer (remove dc cable) and the led was back to blue ;) ! Hopeffuly it will work for you too!
