Was the left exhaust camshaft the cause of the p0018 or was it the left intake camshaft?

I have this code currently, does the tone wheel stay stationary or rotate when the cam is rotating while engine is running? Also the notches on tone wheel when they're in the position they are supposed to be in, is the cam phaser Arrows needing to point at each other?

OK to answer your first question. The tone wheels are spinning with the cam shafts when the engine is started. To answer your second question if you have a tone wheel that is not properly connected to the camshaft, it can become misaligned. All you have to do is feel at that end of the cam shaft, see if it moves back-and-forth by putting just a little bit of pressure on it with your hands. Also, if you’re working on the first cylinder head, the arrows should be pointed toward each other, and the rear cylinder head they should be pointed away from each other. As far as the tone wheels, they go in a specific position too. And in the video I show from a picture where the ones in the front cylinder head should go, but in order to know where they’re lined up technically you’re supposed to use a really expensive tool. But I find if you look the part up from the manufacturer, it shows exactly where the notches are supposed to be from the picture of the part that you’re ordering. I hope this all makes sense. When those Thon wheels are spinning with the camshaft, it shows the camshaft sensor the positions of the camshaft and shows the timing and if it’s off even just less than 10°, it will throw the code.

I have seen the mopar tools that show you where to align the tone wheels the bank 2 tool marks look different from your manual observation. Did it clear the p0018 code and did u do any other work that could have possibly cleared the code

Yes, it absolutely cleared the code. And no I didn’t do any other work.

Everything is not in the manual. There are some things that people experience with experience. Yes, the manual does recommend changing the camshaft but if you’re in a tight squeeze, then it is possible to do what I say in the video but I do recommend changing the cam shaft as I say in the video also but if you don’t have the money and you’re in a tight squeeze, then you can do this method and it will work it is entirely up to the person.

After replacing P0018 camshaft, did code go away, or did you have to Phaser/Camshaft relearn?

It goes away without any recalibration or relearning. In other words, you will not have to take your car to the dealer and get it flash programmed. If your car is in time, the code will go away once you reset it was a scan tool, and it will not come back on. Just remember not to get in a big hurry and take your time and believe in yourself. 👍

@@Mr_Goody I have P0018 P0019, so should I replace both Front Bank camshafts, I drove around the neighborhood and it has no get up and go. (Junkyard is having 40% off parts so almost BOGO)

@@thephnxtrading you should try to move the tone ring with your hand and if they move you need a camshaft and if they’re that cheap I would go ahead and buy both.

Of course the junkyard had some. Probably a lot. These motors are junk just like the dodge, jeep, Chrysler products past 20 years

That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. Me personally I think there’s good and bad in every brand. It just depends on what kind of quality you buy in that brand.

@@Mr_Goody Some better than others. Lots of factors true. I don't really care for much of any new cars. All cars are nice new but over time we all realize down the road if they are good outside of warranty or not. Majority not at all now of days

@@Mr_Goody I'm slightly curious on the situation. Let's say the tone wheel on the cam moves or moved and is slightly off. The timing is correct but would tell the sensor the timing is off of course. A check engine light pops off. Do you think all it is just a engine light or do you think the ECU also does some sort of adjusting or change to the way the vehicle runs?
