This is a great and no cost method to reduce the folds in a poster. For about $100 to $150 you can get your poster linenbacked that will completely get rid of the folds and creases if you you want to go to that extent.

Alright I’m going to try this! My husband folded my ponderosa superman poster!

I have a 6’x6’ wall poster coming today so I’m researching cuz it’s coming to me folded as well. On yours, Im thinking you ironed some humidity into the poster so when you were done, maybe could have tried placing weight on creases(pile of books?) for a couple days while it dried further and shrank which could pull wrinkles down flat even more. But I was inspired!

Wish me luck. I gave my iron away, but I'm gonna try with flat iron for hair. I'm gonna sandwich the map between a couple of pieces of cardstock to protect it. I won't be able to get the central crease, but gonna sandwich it between two pieces of foamboard and put some books on it for a days.

This is great! My rolled poster came damaged I was pretty upset, but this tutorial I will have to try.

If you can afford to take it to the next level linen backing the poster will help to flatten it even more and maintain the integrity of the piece, I recently had a professional do a couple of my posters and they really turned out wonderful.

Michael you could also try waxed paper on the back of the poster as a second step. I'd try it something unimportant first to see if you like that method. So ironing it first as you did then use waxed paper second. Remember when we used to do this with leaves as kids it will strengthen the back.

Should work as long as it's not polyester. Cotton has a high heat point so that would be a safe bet

Same problem I had aquarium poster . It should have been rolled in a tube !

Thanks for this! I wanted to ask, do you think this method works aswell for a crinkled/folded book jacket? One of my books had a jacket that can also become a poster, it wrinkled pretty badly due to shipment though. :( i wanted to try ironing it but its my first time and im a bit scared i might damage it more, especially considering the price.
